Just finished wiring up my dash cam I got for me buffdee in the Zetec-S.

Only thing is that instead of a cig lighter plug for the cam, I want a switchable live with the ignition so it goes on and off when the ignition does. Which wire should I tap into to do this? I'm thinking the radio but that can be switched on and off without the key?

Good news for Harry Potter fans - Albus Dumbledore didn't actually die, he is in fact alive and well and now living in Grimsby, choosing to travel via Transpennine Express Class 185 (first class obvs) rather than by broomstick or Apparating.

It was nice here today so I got the Mercury out for a drive since all the road salt seems to have washed away now. She drove brilliantly, got loads of waves and thumbs up too.

I was followed for a while by a lovely little Audi 50 (mk1 polo with Audi badge) with some young lads in it, bloody nice car it was too.

But about half way along my little route I felt and heard almighty thump against the car. I didn't see any pot holes and saw nothing hit the car so carried on. Got home, wandered around the car and found what the thump was. Bird strike! Poor thing hit the front bumper, right on the 'point' in the middle below the grill. Fucking blood and gore all down the bumper and grill which I had to clean off. Must have been a decent size bird aswell. No damage but I hate killing wildlife!

Started building a seat/bed unit into my Transit camper this afternoon aswell. Shouldn't be much longer and the van will be ready to use.

Overall, a pretty good day.

That's not like any Volvo I know! I take it it's a marine engine?

Turns out that Barrett passed me today. Here he is in a tiny car with no windows.

Should have put two and two together really. Bloke working for The Automobile goes on VSCC event. Not exactly surprising!

Yep, it's a Volvo Penta 2002 marine lump. 18 throbbing horsepower of two-cylinder diesel chugginess

Some dash cams want permanent live as they record when motion is sensed, just check if you have this feature before switching the supply. I've assumed your a bloke and have not read the instruction book, as we know best anyhow.......

If it were me I'd go from the back of the cig lighter.

Right, back in the UK now. BMW started on first turn of key, amazing!

Anyway, got the ball rolling now for the car I'm due to pick up. Hopefully it'll start aswell, also hoping mate doesn't let me down. More to be revealed soon.

The past couple of months have been really intense & mentally exhausting, so the cars have been neglected. Today, though, I needed to procrastinate in a non-destructive way. Mulling over the fleet, I've been all "let's get rid of..." and the 406 Coupé, Beetle, Twingo and XJS have all been considered suitable.

Of course, the XJS hasn't been touched since it got here, bar the occasional fire up. So, that'll be the ideal procrastination device for someone who is fundamentally trying to break themselves.

Battery out of CX. XJS fires up like a brand new car.

Add water. Wait for water to come from exhaust.

Notice interesting water feature under bonnet.

Rev. Obtain fountain.

Still no water from exhaust.

Oil pressure rock solid. Temperature climbing, so off.

Cool, add more water. Pay attention this time...

Little hose union snapped off behind thermostat...

yer man in the black tshirt there has failed to spot the silver car slowing down for stationary traffic. I was 1 car in front, having slowed down(hazards on).

somehow, he got the truck far enough to the left to miss both of us.

boy wi hoodie is a polis-on his way to work so stopped so report it.

Bad driving from a Miller truck? I don't believe it. I had to complain to their Managing Director (they're based down here) because they would fail to give way to me so regularly. Me on a 60mph road being slowed to 15-20 by them turning out of a side road. Not even if I was in a line of traffic and their in a big rush or anything, even if it was just me with nothing behind they would do it.

Well today I drove the little black panda over Pennines to new owner who plans to take it around many exciting european countries next year including Russki!

The White one is with the MOT man,  the selecta did daily driving duties to work and back though the light switch is knackered on the dash so ordered a new pair from Latvia, always good to have a spare!

With the drive being relatively clear, the colour was moved and the Y10 started, twice in a week!

Now at this point I could either powerwash the drive or give the GTIE a blast to see if the weird half power issue was still present.  Fuel was low so I took it and stuck a tankful of shell premium in it, couldn't do any harm, though the fuel cap was so stiff I worried the key might snap.  So far so good, running ok, Brake light was on the dash but cleared itself, I headed out to the M62.  Got up to motorway speed and stayed there, eventually having to take the outside lane as clearly I had the best car on the road!  I started to notice the bonnet bobbling up and down, I hadn't slammed it shut so turned off to saddleworth to sort that out.  Still running nicely (but moreso as downhill) I took it all the way to the M621 leeds rd and turned back for home, uphill so was expecting imminent power fail.  It never came, the little Lancia was zinging it's way back up hill to home, all dials, oil, water, oil bar nicely in the middle, just right.  Such a positive little steer, with a harder suspension set up than the panda, more responsive to input but lighter too it just kept going.

Finally on the way home stopped at the shop for some supplies and it comes over all Italian, the central locking (pointless in a two door car) wont lock the car.  I left the dog on guard duty.  Back in the car took second turn of the key to fire but off we went up the steep hill to home, always a good test.  No problems whatsoever!

So  pleased with the car, can't take it and leave it anywhere due to not locking, but it's very nice to have a little car (parked next to an old aygo, same size lower profile) that can live in the outside lane when required. :)

MOTed the ex-Lobster Toledo yesterday, straight through with no advisories, it's been a cracking car over winter and i will genuinely miss it but i need to scratch that itch for a retro car to use over summer for work which is the Audi so this now has to go. Since I've had it I've fitted a rear caliper, sorted the EML (needed a relay), fitted a CD/USB stereo and serviced it last week. Shitters no haggle price is £800

GLWTS Trig. The 1.8t is a peach of an engine.

Scirocco now taxed, DVLA online system worked completely fine despite it's six months on SORN.

Now to try and get the bastard started. Timing is way out, and I've got no timing mark to work to, as the one the last garage in Cardiff used was wrong. The interior is proper minging after six months in a council lock up too.

My mother in law passed away this morning.

We had been caring for her since Christmas as she was getting to the stage that she was struggling to care for herself.

Eventually we had carers coming four times a day to help.

In the end she was bed ridden.

I find it odd that the kindest people in life are made to suffer in this way - sadly my youngest son is only seven months old and will have no memory of his grandmother.

Violet, you will be missed more than you will ever know.

My condolences, Bren. I always find it difficult to know what to say in times like these, so apologies if I sound mealy-mouthed.

Sorry to hear that Bren, my thoughts are with you.
