Wife's Jimny Cabriolet broke down again - it really is an ungrateful little bastard of a thing! Fuel related this time, I think. Turns over won't start. I ended up pushing it back - all caught on my own cars dashcam which doesn't require to be pushed - if it did I'd bridge it - hear that you little Japanese (built in Spain by Santana) bastard !

Spent the whole day trying to get the meds that make my brain work having run out of them over a week ago.

This involved going to 3 different pharmacies and the doctor's office.

It turns out that my consultant changing the dosage after I'd already ordered them for the month made the system shit itself.

Add into that an international shortage (caused by a baffling decision by the DEA in the US to bring in regulations to reduce production below demand of all things) and it's all been rather stressful.

All sorted now though. Now I've ordered a pizza to celebrate not getting *too* pissed off while navigating it all. Sorry to the people I snapped at for staring me down while forcing me to walk on a busy main road instead of not walking 3 abreast for a second.

A tip for walking . Just stop dead and stare at them, they then have to move.

More transport mayhem alas. Eurostar out again - but it won't or should not delay LeShuttle as the flooding is under the Thames towards London.  Surprising that one of the HS2 tunnels has flooded - something has gone seriously wrong there.  

Be surprised if they get it up and running today or even before next week getting the water out of the tunnel and if the infrastructure is soaked - with attendant safety checks  - which may have the knock-on effect of more volume at Dover Port and Cheriton.

[Update 16.00 : all trains cancelled for the day - and those who can now booking up the alternatives. Usual corporate virtue-signalling - "Eurostar is extremely sorry for the unforeseen issues affecting customers today but safety remains our number one priority".  Rubbish - it is nothing do do with safety at this stage - it's just that a train won't go through a damaged tunnel. 8000 people impacted]

Every death is a tragedy. However that doesn't seem too bad for nearly 70m people. 

There are over 5k deaths a year from asbestos related illnesses. Biggest single workplace illness. 

There are 160k deaths a year from heart disease (460 a day) with 48k under 75. Most of these are from poor lifestyle choices. 

Basically you're far more likely to die from eating unhealthy foods and lack of exercise than on the roads.

During Covid I had a look into what was the “normal” number of deaths per day in the U.K. , to get some perspective on the numbers quoted. I think I saw 2018 figures.

The causes are broken down into some bizarre categories like . Death by animals:- by farm animals , cows 12, ( more than world wide shark death), all others 8. Dogs 6 etc 

Falling off cliffs - 9. This one was interesting because the numbers are quoted as male/ female / total. 
Obviously some like death in child birth are entirely female, but so was falling off cliffs. Obviously pushed by their husbands was my wife’s explanation.

A week away round Scotland, after 1000 miles covered in universally horrendous weather we get home, offload all our stuff then I jump in the van to drop my bike off at work, it's only a few miles. 500 yards away from work, the rear screen explodes totally at random - nothing touched it, the bike is miles away from the glass.

So bizarre! Thank fuck it waited until now to do that, otherwise it could have made a mess of our holiday.

Not ideal, I'll end up having to wait til new year to get a new screen (still not sure whether to just do it myself @ £170 or invoke my insurers) but the van is parked in my unit for now, and it gives me an excuse to get the T25 back out for a few days!!!

Lovely looking car, but those wheels are TRX (my old UK RHD super X had the same wheels) got nothing against TRX tyres other than they are expensive and use 40 year old tyre compound and tread patterns and may not offer the best in grip/comfort for the price you pay.

As mentioned in my for sale thread for the 2008 Qashqai, I took my brother and his Mrs to collect her new one today that they’d bought from a work colleague.

I never thought I’d say this but I really like it, never knew they did such a decent spec car. This things got 360 cameras, automatic parking both bay park and parallel you just line the screen up with a bay and it steers itself in. Keyless, pan roof etc it’s brilliantly specced for a non prestigious brand SUV

Shame it’s only a 1.5 DCI so not a lot of grunt, but for them as a family with two young kids and absolutely no interest in cars other than a safe and practical mode of transport, it’s perfect. I completely ‘get’ why they’re popular.

Wife’s Yeti has that self park trick too. Bay or parallel also. It’s bloody good, can get into spaces you probably wouldn’t try yourself.

Nope. Like you I tried it once or twice for the novelty the first time I came across it then just continued doing it myself
