My nearly 6 year old Hyundai has now achieved 43,000 miles.

I'm concerned to note that there are only 3 taxed Gen 1 Kia Mentors left on Britain's roads according to HML. Assuming 1997 was last Gen 1 year, then another 30 SORN'd.

I`ve always had a soft spot for these and the Shuma II. Could have bought one on the knock when new when I left college but they cost around the same as my gross salary back in 2000.

Come to think of it my wages probably haven't kept up because I'm sure the price of a base model C'eed is higher. 😕

Could feel a drag and car not rolling well, turns out hand brake had seized on partially... so a big hammer/screwdriver and some wd40 got it off a working better

No doubt it will be enforced in the same way as litter and dog shit. I.e no one will ever get a fine.

I'd guess 100% of 'hazards on pavement parking' delivery person would hope so, but I doubt it, as cooncils love PCN revenue and any means of expanding it. There are also locations where pavement parking is for the good and eases traffic flow, not that I'm condoning it.

Where I live , there is a traffic warden about 1/2 day per month, because the council says they can’t afford more, so people park everywhere , double parking on double yellow lines. People even park on the yellow lines when there are legal spaces , just to park outside a particular shop. I do not know or have heard of anyone getting a ticket.

EFA.

Did anyone read the news article about one company that sits in a lay-by and watches you piss in the bushes before slapping you with a PCN?

If you want my advice, don't move house. 😀

Let me guess. PCN issued at arms length by the same local authority which closed all the public toilets.

In Bristol and surrounding counties they drive around with a car that has cameras on top. At the moment it's mainly for automatically catching over staying parking but I can imagine they could easily enforce pavement parking with it too. I think they have a button to mark the recording so they can go back to see what needs enforcing.

Even more endangered than the Kia Mentor, is the first (UK) Hyundai Sonata. There are 5 left according to HML, only one taxed.

Where is it?

I thought it was a blandly handsome thing. But I'm strange.

Lots of roads that used to be passable to two way traffic won't be any more.

Had to go into town today for the first time in a while and there are few old cars to see. The oldest was a Saab 9-3 and a Volvo V40 estate. Everything is just about 2008 and newer gray, silver and black boring things.

Not too the v6 out of extra urban driving for many weeks so popped down the old m20 couple junctions.... started out at 16.7mpg... some sensible 69.9mph driving increased the mpg too....

I've been out the game for nearly three weeks after having a minor accident* and pulling muscles in my lower back.

Still sair but Mrs GMcD is away for 3 nights at a work thing, so been chipping away at the Saab.

Out with it's heart:

*Don't jump over things in the pitch black in your garden shed at 8pm at night. It never goes well.

Jesus, what a waste! Scrapped with 18k miles (yes, eighteen) on the clock!

I'd be willing to bet there was next to nothing wrong with it

2 years ago today I collected this and its never put a foot wrong. That's 2 years motoring for less than 1 months payment on a financed BMW or Audi. Likely double the driving enjoyment too!

Bought it off eBay about ten years ago to tinker with but its sat in the box every since aside from a quick shakedown in my works car park

The green growing all over my car was getting too much so I went to the local garage which has a self use jet wash.

Couldn't read any of the machine as its all faded to shit, but my phone tells me £2 for 5 mins of the pressure washer had all the green off. I was pondering using the brush but it looked fucked, giving it a jet wash wouldn't have helped so I ignored that.

Then I visited the tyre machine and ll all the tyres were 6/7psi out in various ways. Did that too.

Got home and checked my bank and the 2nd 5 minutes I got was refunded for reasons I don't know, it probably didn't like the fact it was trying to read my cars as I pushed the buttons, and oh well!

Winter maintenance over with 👌

WIT A MOTOR

Just another update on the lack of any real progress on my poorly Tipo.  Plan A is still slowly ticking over, that is, the garage will investigate its non-running and report back if they can fix  it. They will then MOT it (expires 22nd December) and do any further work if it fails. I'll be discussing it in more detail on Monday.  I do have a reasonably generous budget. However, this will not be a blank chequebook exercise.  Plan B is to have the car transported to a nearby classic car garage which has the gear and willingness to take this on sometime in February/March 2024.  Plan C will depend on the Tipo's fixability versus my budget and could be the end of the road for this one.
