What a weekend.

N01 son got his new car, he's worked hard and saved a lot for it.

A few hours before this we got a call to say my mother was very ill and we should get there soon.

Around 15 minutes after we got there she passed with me holding her hand. I was telling her we had just gotten a dachshund puppy.

Apart from talking to gm on Saturday afternoon, this is the first time I have mentioned it.

I'm really sorry for your loss and I'm even gladder that you got to be there and share her final moments with her, 100% it's what she would've wanted.

if you need anything, give me a shout - coffee, beer, taking the cars out for a blast to clear your head, i’m just round the corner. look after yourself, my friend.

There's a line of lock up garages on my delivery (in fact there are several) in which I have never seen any doors open.

Until today. I took this picture surreptitiously from a distance.

But then, as I had to walk passed anyway I did stop and compliment him. It looked very clean from what I could see. He told me there were a couple of rusty bits but it is generally sound. Also told me he'd only had it a couple of years. Being an old man in a brown suit and indeed working on his Maestro in said brown suit you would think that he would have owned it from new. I don't think you can blame me from jumping to these conclusions, he looked every inch the Maestro owner.

There are thousands of lock up garages across the country and I know the vast majority are just full of crap or nothing at all but the law of averages says there must be all sorts of things like this hidden away that we'll never know about.

The forecast storms and weather warnings did not put me off attending the car show at Bodrhyddan Hall today. For the third or fourth year on the trot we totally forgot to go into the house and gardens! But we did see some delightful sights:

Of course, my interest was mostly piqued by this…

IMG_3061.jpegIMG_3075.jpeg

We had the only 2CV there, and got a lot of attention which was nice. It repaid me by cutting out randomly, idling like crap intermittently and popping and spluttering on the way home. I wonder if the coil was getting hot due to the very warm temperatures…

Coil or condensor (if its still on points) - Or 123 failure (sometimes happens with those symptoms)

Well, fuck :(

Mercedes doing German things in Scotland.

Thankfully it's just that bit behind the headlight, weirdly very localised.

On 123… will see how we go in cooler weather… the vain hope it’s heat related!

Picked the leads up for daughter No 1's Beetle at midday.

Never heard of the brand, I'm sure someone will point out they're shit!

Got them fitted, popped the inlet manifold back on and bolted everything else back together, bloody fiddly back of the hand scraping job. Took it round the block and it seems to be running sweet. The plan was to drop it off in the works carpark and leave the keys with security to surprise our daughter, we got rumbled by one of her mates spotting us as she came back from a smoke break.

Oh well at least its a good deed done for today.

6 years today since I swapped a PCPd BMW 1-Series for a £600 Saab to adopt daily shite life. Sadly has been relegated to occasional use these days. But every time I drive it it’s like being with an old friend who you know so well. Maybe I’ll drive it to work tomorrow to celebrate.

And at last, I have an illuminated info centre!

Then, I chucked in a few litres of fresh petrol and tried to start. It cranks well, got a good spark, but it won't run. I suspect the fuel pump is dead, which maybe isn't so surprising after sitting for four years. To be continued!

I was in Upullit earlier and couldn't believe my luck when I found a completely intact 93 Aero front splitter.

£15.90 was the best bit!

I can't wait to paint and fit it.

I don't enjoy having to drive around London for work, but sometimes I do at least get a good view

It's still not going to get me to go in there and spend my actual money.

yup, I'd rather be sober than hand any money over the bar in a wetherspoons. And I really don't like being sober

Not even a real H van. More like an AH van

I have a real pet hate about H van catering wagons in general, real or fake plastic kits - ugh!!

Real H vans though, oh yes, driven several, owned one. I mean, like an absolute slow, noisy nightmare, but fun.

On Loughborough market today. There was a Renault estaffete cheese van. Photos if it's back next week.

Had a knock on the door about 6.30 last night. was the neighbour asking if I spoke French. I don't but Mrs W knows a bit of schoolgirl french so sent her out.  Turns out a French couple with zero English were doing a car rally from France to Scotland and had somehow ended up in SE London when looking to go Cambridge.  I went out for a nosey to be greeted by this beauty outside my house

Mrs W managed to ascertain they were looking for the m25/Dartford crossing but were now about 15 miles from it.  I can only assume they had put avoid tolls on their old looking sat nav and got lost looking for the Blackwall or Woolwich ferry.

After much pointing at a circa 10 year old road atlas I decided it was best to have them follow me the 15 miles down to the Dartford crossing. From the stickers on the car it seems they were doing something called the Savane Adventure. Googled it for a bit of info and saw I got a mention on their website!

I like to think they saw my XM outside the house and decided it would be a good place to stop, but I suspect they just saw the neighbour mowing his lawn first

Yeah but... a pint of Guinness for me &  half of San Miguel for the lady at £4.88 in the South East isn't to be sniffed at!

A few years ago, whilst waiting for my partner to get the train back from London, I wandered into the The London & County without realising it was a Wetherspoons. After buying my pint I was immediately shoved out the way by the dirtiest bloke I've ever seen, who stank of piss and was brandishing a handful of shrapnel. I downed my pint and went and swiftly went and sat on the bench outside the train station. Politics aside, bugger going back there again.

I wandered into the Cornfield Garage a while back before that, again without realising it was a Wetherspoons. I wasn't accosted by a piss soaked hobo in that one, but it did smell like the care home my grandad saw out his last days in - that kind of odour that's a mix of cleaning fluids and body fluids.

Really grim. I'd rather just drink at home if I want to save money, or if I do want a drink in a pub then I think it's worth spending the extra couple of quid to drink somewhere pleasant.

I won't have a bad word said about Spoons. Outrageously cheap pints , exquisite microwave cookery and a baffling ordeal to the bogs in every single one.

Horse it into me Tim
