Washed. Clayed. Polished.

Probably up for sale this weekend - only because I need the money for my wagon course. However if I don't get the asking price it stays.

Stripped down the spare wheel carrier of the dad wagon, started drilling out the rivets , it was taking ages...  so cracked out the grinder, and punch, pretty simple, they recommended too go ott with grease, kit came with 8 bolts and a machined cog that breaks in to bits, only casualty was I was grinding away turned around to do otherwise and it started too fall of the table, so stupid me i grabbed it and cooked my thumb a bit...

No photies but - dead chuffed with our 2004 Suzuki quad - it has had a weeping front diff seal for ages (years) now and I finally (got nagged) into sorting it.
Every single nut and bolt came off/out without any struggles - it's kind of like a miniature 4x4 in the front end complete with disc brakes etc etc and I was expecting rust, heat, snake oil, grinder, drills - nope, off it all came and then back on it all went. No blood, some sweat, no tears.

Good engineering.

My serial-Jag-bothering neighbour pulled up earlier in a late metallic red X-Type.  Which surprised me as the last time I saw him he was driving a metallic brown 3-litre diesel XF, which he'd paid quite a lot of money for.  Turns out he'd got so pissed off with the XF going wrong and having to spend money on it that he'd decided to cut his losses and stuck it in the auction.  Moral of the story is, if you're going to buy a modern Jag buy a cheap one, as you'll lose less money when it inevitably sharts itself.

The X-Type is rather nice to be fair, as X-Types go.  2.2 diesel auto and looked to be top of the range, with touch screen sat nav etc.

Thats exactly the same as my brother in law's example. They only made that combo for the last year of production.

Bought some Biltong after reading @grizz's blog post about making the stuff at home. Ended up buying 1kg of the stuff and it's utterly fucking superb. Great blog as well

You bought from Mark?

I bought some biltong from him, and his droee works (dried sausage) is extremely good as well, completely different to biltong, and not everyone likes it, most do though.

And even though I make my own, and prefer it to any other guys’ product, it is a lot easier ordering from Mark, and I drive past his place in Shropshire when I visit my mate Craig.

I have been in his production facility, and like the way he  operates.

PS. I have slacked on the blog recently, loads of stuff to do, and also some work stress which may be  reduced at 4.00pm today, we have a “meeting”

While in Greece we bumped into a 205 Euro Rallye at The Acropolis in Athens. Car park absolutely rammed and looked like great fun with 205s from around the world. Mrs wasn't sure why I was getting so excited but I'd absolutely love to do something like this.

A couple of charity shop finds. I got these because they look in good condition. No doubt they’ll hang around for a while in the living room before disappearing into the loft and living with the other million Haynes manuals I own. The Saab manual had this deposit book inside, last used in 1985!

For the first (and no doubt last) time in my life I can genuinely say I've been to Mercedes to pick my car up.

Expectations

Vs reality

It's been in for one recall that turned out to be three: Cruise control (they've been known to stick on), front seat belt clips and some sort of pipe brackety thing.

Disappointingly, it's not the worst they've seen ('far from it') and they didn't give me a full tank of petrol or £85,000 off a new AMG. They had some absolutely MEGA motors in the showroom: hate new cars all you like, but if I had the spondulicks I'd be in Merc's showroom first.

Wife and I are going to that London for the weekend to play tourist guides to her best friend and her husband (who come from Crooked House Pub part of the world). Highlights* to include Battersea Power Station shopping mall centre (I may be looking more at the architecture and other delights), Westminster Cathedral, a performance of 'The Jersey Boys' (I keep imagining Frankie Valli in a sweater) and the Buckingham House State Rooms & Gardens. I doubt much chod will be in the vicinity but will pap whatever I can.

Yeah, and sadly the left rear air spring is letting air out as fast as the compressor puts it in.

Thats bad. The only positive thing is that it happened after you came home from the European trip.

Parked next to this today. Can’t remember the last time I saw a MK2 Avensis saloon. Look how reserved and moderate it is. Magic.

Amazingly it’s never had an advisory. Two fails for trivial things, but no advisories and clean passes for nearly a decade. I knew I should have left a bloody note on it. What a cracker.

Air suspension… who’d buy a car with it 🤣

That was my sentiment exactly, I’m looking on the bright side in that it’s done all the work I asked of it without leaving me stranded anywhere. It had the good grace to fail on the way home from work!

The landy will be fine but just hates my driveway for some reason. It levels out at about 30mph and behaves*.

Absolutely HEART it, big time. Should never have sold the last one, still regret it. Probably miles off a Range Rover or whatever in terms of 'poshness' and toys, but  they got the drive spot on IMHO. Still my go to motor when I want to actually enjoy driving.

There’s been a local car meet which has started up since the demise of the Mavericks meets. For some reason I kept missing it, but I made it tonight.

One last show for the Pontiac in my ownership… disrupting a sequential run of Rovers
