I'm flat bloody broke or the Pug would get four Hankooks.

I generally despise Chinese tyres after some brand new ones tried to bin my old 740 into a verge and oncoming traffic simultaneously, but these Nankangs I can't fault.

Thought Nankangs were South Korean? Or are they outsourced to China nowadays?

Had to look that up to be sure, but no, Taiwanese. So always Chinese.

Taiwan might have a different view about that last part, but we take your point.

The Nankangs on my Lotus aquaplane like bastards, although they’re ok in the dry.  Nankang are about the only people who make the right size though, which seems to be the case for a lot of 70s and 80s cars. Fair play to them for that.

I’ve just put a set of Hankook winters on the Kodiaq in preparation for driving to Germany. They seem very good so far - quiet, grippy, pliant, no noticeable difference versus the standard Pirelli Scorpions.  Obviously they’ll be miles better in the cold.

As an aside, the Pirellis have done 27k miles with barely any discernible loss of tread depth. They’ll easily do another 10k before I have to think about replacing them. I’ve never known tyres to last this well.

I got a set of 12" Nankangs for the elderly 1200, they almost look like crossplies and I'm quite happy with them on it.

I really rate Hankook winter tyres, I've a set on the Scirocco and put a set on the Rover as soon as I got it. They are excellent in the rain, out-cornering a lot of more sporty vehicles and they are without parallel in snow & ice.

So the Multipla needed two tries at getting the MOT this week but we got there in the end.

With my cars it's a story of attrition. Check out how much mileage I've added in 12months. Bear in mind I drove the Jag about for a month or so, and I bought the Alfa 147 in sportyshites hands for 3 to 4 weeks while I fitted the lowering springs and timing belt to the Multi.

This cracking mk2 is the MOT man's. He says he did it once in his teens/twenties and is doing it up again properly in his 30s.

Borat MoT fail!!

Still, almost 160,000 miles on the original shock absorbers can't be bad. One ball joint was fixed last year. Looks like the other side needs doing.

Suppose I'll be driving the CX whilst the repairs are being done.

Lots of terrible driving seen / suffered today. Must be distracted or tired from staying up late. One Audi ( obv.) was so keen to overtake me he almost slammed into the back of the stationary queue of traffic.

my posh card arrived today. Do remember your taxes pay for this!

Can we address the elephant , erm err I mean ironing board in the room?

WTF?

The padded cover is not present, so I guess no ironing action is carried out at this fine establishment. It looks clean, so not a tool or component  holding area. Maybe it's for the tea and biccies (or celebrations)?

He was welding up the frame for a friend. Proper legend this guy. I asked him if he could take some tyres of some spare wheels i had once. "Erm, £3 or 4" he said for a pair. He said they charge him £2 each to scrap them. That's why I keep coming back.

They want the £750 they paid for it... It's worth £450.

I have V12 Evo2 summer tyres. They've been brilliant in the cold, wet weather so far. Including some slippery icy mornings after work. How they'd cope in snow though, I'm not sure.

Just done Manchester to Grimsby in pissing rain without issue. Including a good few miles of totally flooded a628.

I has made a decision,I think! My new environment in Dorset means a bit more travelling on much shiteier roads than I used to have in Worcestershire, and aside from the obvious unpleasantness of riding a 30 year old two stroke bike this time of year,I'm already at the point where I'm feeling unsafe and had a few dodgy moments today on the wet, greasy muddy roads, and we haven't even had ice yet! So I've decided to rejoin the ranks of the 4 wheeled brigade, and find a car, pretty soon! Won't be easy this time of year, plus I'm currently out of work which will no doubt equal bum rape with the insurers, but if I'm to have any quality of life,ie,being able to travel further to get decent work, and see where I'm going, dry and warm, and of course be able to go out to meet people or do anything anytime regardless of the weather,it's got to happen.I shall probably sell my MZ,my faithful companion of the last 4-5 years,to offset the cost, and keep my Ariel for fun in the sun. Thinking Polo,Fabia,FeliCa (tho they all gone and or rotten! Would love a 205 as I really dig them and got hooked after driving chaseracers white one,but I can't travel to the other end of the country to get one,so will have to see what turns up?

@Six-cylinder AX is probably your nearest match for small, fun and cheap to run? Certainly cheaper than many 205s now. In fact it's a lot cheaper than most working cars you can get now.

Probably possible to get it on cheap classic insurance too?

Sorry no photo, but I have just seen my local Citroen dealer have an interesting motor as their courtesy service shuttle. It's a Citroen C6.
