Just saw this on FB a minute ago.

It's not a great photograph.  Not a great camera.  The lighting is poor, there's a post in the way and I really hope the 'couple' to the left of shot are related.

That said.

God I love a 3 box saloon.  How fit does this Mondeo saloon look?

WOOF.

Sunday morning car check over results! Checked all levels and pressures on all 3 cars. Each car has a new fault!

318- Cam cover gasket leaking... again. Replaced gasket last year too for the same problem so need to check for blocked or clogged breathers as well.

Land Rover- Throttle body coolant plate is leaking again, also replaced last year with a genuine part... The plate warps and then leaks. This seems to have done the same.

it's not looking good so far is it?

635- refitted interior linings in boot, connected sub, turned on stereo and... farty mc fart fart from all speakers and sub not working... WHAT?!?

Further investigations found that the subs power lead fuse holder located under the bonnet had been subjected to water ingress and this had resulted in a warm, gooey, melted mess of fuse and holder. That was a good find! Disconnected live lead and normal speakers working all OK.

On the bright side, there's no punctures, no excessive oil consumptions, good batteries, even tyre wearings and I got some anti freeze screen wash in them all.

I can't help but think the woman embracing the man on the left is saying " thank you for bringing the mondeo"

Took Camry to office to make space in layby. I was in the Range Rover with Brother Fumbler and it's nice to sit in. Goes really well and all the electrics work.

This evening we concluded:

Battery is shot because when the beanz were given on the layby air started blowing out of all the vents.

The suspension is working fine with highway mode selecting automatically

SRS airbag warning is down to a connector under the seat. Fun.

Drivers window mechanism needs replacing

And that's where the okay stuff ends.

The car's definitely suffering from Not-being-used-enough syndrome, as evidenced by the battery and the heater controls. All was going fine and we had the heater on automatic.... and then the handbook symbol of death appeared. Oh dear. The air conditioning needs a regas, so it could be that, or it's the blending fans which will be a pain in the arse to replace.

Petrol station shot will follow but transferring photos through E-mail will take some time.

Bit late to the party here but yes, it has happened, with great effect.

Interesting colour combination.

Self employed farmer buys green and yellow paint to "touch up" his tractor fleet, thus allowing him to put the cost through the books.

Tax avoidance comes in many forms. This one I approve of.

Don't skimp on the replacement battery as these are quite power hungry;and the blend motors may just need a bit of help to start moving again.

Put the Rover away yesterday after a good hoon about to make sure the battery had charged up.  Double checked all the things that need to be turned off, were, and arranged the cars so I could use it today.  No joy, battery flat again.  Jumped it off the Princess and it started no bother, as it always does.  I wonder if the battery itself is at fault since it seems unable to hold a charge overnight.  Will be putting it on the tester to see if it's okay and if it is, we'll put it on a long charge off the car to see if we can encourage it to behave.

If the battery still goes flat overnight after that I'll take it back and get it replaced.  It's a new battery, still under warranty, so it shouldn't be an issue to get a swap.  Funnily enough, when I got the battery it went flat pretty much straight away and I attempted to return it to be told it checked out fine (which it did), and it then behaved normally after a deep charge.  Gut feeling is that it's a duff battery.

The blue laguna had similar symptoms with its dead battery. Using it every day, as long as I turned it on asap then faffed about it was always fine. Leave it over the weekend, needed a jump. I scrapped the car instead...

Meriva and Zafira did the same when their batteries died too. Fine one day, couldn't start the car the next (Amy was at a toddler group when the Zafira went, in a big posh place near Oxford. Apparently many people stared as I rattled up in the silver laguna, nudged the bumpers as I parked, got out, swore alot as I jumped the Zafira, then went in to wash my hands and give Amy her keys back, leaving the Zafira running, then accidentally wheelspinning out of the car park... Oops

Brother's a bit apprehensive due to the fact that when the battery is taken out, Body ECU goes mental and you have to do the buttock clentching code re-entering procedure, which, for him, is going to be a bit of a mouthful. After all, I don't think he wants to be locked out for 30 minutes, especilally with the snowy forecast for this week. When we did turn the HVAC on the engine really bogged down so a charge is what that battery probably needs more than anything.

The Acclaim had a new battery when I bought it but the slow drain (from the dodgy clock) meant that is kept being flattened, even when the drain was removed it'd sometimes go flat on a cold night but now the car is in constant use the car can sit for a week with no ill effect... Perhaps you need to break the battery back in, so to speak?

The power of Facebook!

There's always been another white Civic GL auto very local to me (about 2 streets over), but I haven't seen it for a while. Had a red stripe on the rubbing strip and Borbet-looking wheels. Then recently it reappeared and the guy's been dailying it. Also, there was a red manual GL owned by some giffers.

I recognised the white car on an post on 4GUK (a Civic page).

Turns out the white GL was his pride and joy owned since 2000 and it got torched by vandals in 2017, presumably from the nearby council estate on the other side of a small wooded area opposite his house. This is why it disappeared, along with an Alfa GTV it was always parked with (its nose melted).

The new Civic is a replacement he's recently bought and done up to be identical to his old one, having been laid up for 7 years. He's just bought the local red Civic to use as a daily as well - after swapping the gearboxes so his good white one is a manual, and the red one is auto!

I've never seen the fella in his Civic when I've been in mine, but he's seen Mother Ghosty in it, and commented on how clean it is

These days if I ever have to change a battery on a "modern", I leave my little jump pack connected up to the battery terminals so the ECUs don't shut down.  I used to use a moped battery and a couple of lengths of wire with crocodile clips on the ends, which worked equally well until I "borrowed" them to wire in an electric fuel pump on the Volvo.

Also, my mum got a ride in a friend of hers' car this morning. I'm very fucking envious I wasn't there.

35k from new and family owned since 1980. Still has the factory plastic coverings on the rear bench and door cards. c08a801afdcc3d2a030d96df1f64fb9a.jpg

I clearly should have put a collection thread up by now, but I have so little faith in my purchase, and so much fear of what the garage will tell me later, that I have decided to hold off on any form of jubilance. Work is being done, but I fear work may always be being done. Ah ha ha. :/ It’s rusty, wafty, warty and German. And completely impractical.

So...ummm, yeah, that’s it for now. If anyone wants me, I’ll be in the poorhouse.

So many issues to deal with.  But hey, let's get it roadworthy and safe first.  Nottingham to Llanberis and back this coming weekend.
