Sir obviously has a misunderstanding about the customer’s financial and social standing.

....and this from someone who lives in the Queen's back garden(s).

I have been to Nuneaton and back to South Wales, I have confirmed that I don't like driving much these days. The day started well* the Land Rover is currently in disgrace so my good mate offered his MINI Cooper S Clubman, unfortunately it has not been driven recently so beep, beep, nothing, I think it has a flat battery, so the journey was made in the C15 van. It trundles along quite happily, but lacks any oomph to get out of the way when other people do stupid things. It also has an invisibility cloak, so cars merging from slip roads try to squash you into the vehicles in the next lane in heavy traffic. It survived the round trip better than I did, but along the way has developed a clonky on the nearside, which I think might be from the driveshaft/joint. Still the totally unnecessary chair that I went to pick up is very nice, I just find it hard to understand how anyone can drive for a living as I'm totally knackered.

Why pay £20 an hour to do it yourself when a lot of smaller workshops are only charging 40 an hour to suck their teeth and maybe do it for you in the next year or so. (Or not at all)

FTFY. ;)

Thanks, I don’t tend to walk from that direction.

Edit.,

I wonder what they’d say if I went in with my three piece suit, watch chain, overcoat and fedora and asked to test drive something after my meeting next door?

What do they sell these days? That showroom must cost a fortune to operate.

I doubt if they would know what to do, I don’t think anyone has actually bought anything from them before

Further around I discovered something. If you work hard, commit, and strive to greatness, you too can have the things of your dreams. Such as a sporty black two door number.

You know you are Autoshite when you see this and say “wow, that’s an early mk3 Polo”

What even is that other thing?  Some kind of Bentley?  It looks very "new money" whatever it is.

There's a company called 'kill all wipers' that specialise in delete kits for rear wipers.

'Wobbler - Do not click. Offensive content.

I actually hope that the "business man" who sells £1 worth of product (If that) for £10 is actually a fat 70 year old pensioner who is making enough undeclared income to spend Winter in Bankock having all his lifelong fantasies cum true.

I really would also like to see this on Dragons Den.

So my car has had a health check. They sent me a video of the car on the ramp by email and they found the following:

1. Front brake pads down to 2 mm. Front wheels binding. One of the discs is corroded.

2. Oil leak

3. Power steering leak

I'm not much of a mechanic btw. I was hoping to nurse the car up to July when the MOT's due but it appears that the brakes need attention quick.

I'm being a bit careful with money nowadays, have given a lot of money to main dealers over the years and so I'll ask the garage near my place of work to take a look.

Check and replace fluids at every fill up and get the brakes sorted.

Discs and pads are easy to do and worth the cost of the tools if you’re going to keep the car. Maybe a localish shiter could show you how.

Thanks guys. I never want to touch the brakes on a car...even back in the 1990s when I had a Mini and Escort IV that were easy to DIY. Car's booked in next week at a grage just around the corner from my work so it'll be handy.

My wife's 05 reg avensis went in for a recall on the airbags the other month. I was sent an email with the health check video on from toyota. All they could find wrong was it had one steel wheel on and gaffer tape on bumper. I was happy with that for an 05 plate car on 114000 miles

Discs and pads are much easier than anything I ever did on my mini.

It is even easier booking it in somewhere though.

The former or the latter?

Ticked over 77k in the Princess today.  Electronic ignition has netted an improvement of 2.2mpg urban which I wasn't expecting.

I'm a proper cock. Supposed to know about cars and do stuff like maintenance.

Taking the Frontera to Nottingham next week, 'must check the oil, when did I last do that?' yeah that's right sod all in it and it needed some water in the radiator too.

Luckily had some in the garage and just ordered a 5 liter bottle and a filter. Just thinking I bet it takes more..

The recently new (to me) Honda Accord lit up the EML on a trip to town on Christmas Eve and was obviously misfiring badly. Codes read and:

Hmmm. First thought was a faulty ignition coil on one of the cylinders but checked the spark plugs first.

The gap on every plug was over 2mm, so totally worn out then. I suspect these must be the original plugs and the car has done 176,000 miles!

So much for fleet maintainance then. The car was owned by Dyfed Powys police for most of that mileage.

Will be replacing the plugs with new ones tomorrow as haven't done any car stuff over the festivities. Hopefully no ignition coils have been damaged.

I watched an American YouTube video ( Doug de muro, autotrader) on a second hand maybach - 300,000 depreciation! Anyway, it has twin front callipers each side to stop the three tons from 180mph!

Amazing they weren’t rusted into the head really.

I made it back in one piece from collecting the doors and trailer. I called by work yesterday to find a minor panic. They had jumpstarted a friend's MK1 Connect which had then auto locked and was happily rattling away with the bonnet open and doors locked. Obviously it only had one key, I tried to open it with the key from a MK1 Focus but apparently Ford locks aren't quite as bad as I've been led to believe.

When I left the owner was trying to Jimmy the door using the wire numbers from the workshop dartboard.

Ruh roh. Came out to get some stuff from the boot of the jaaaag and there's a small pink puddle sitting at the back of it. Won't be able to check it out till later as well. Anyone by chance know if that's likely to be transmission fluid?

Actually, I think (bloody hope) that it's came from the old audi that usually parks in this space (I'm in work you see) that's got a coolant leak :D

Posted

The only thing it could leak out the back would be diff oil. In fact I don’t think it has anything pink (I don’t think it had pink coolant in it). :)

PS. Do remember to check out if there is any dampness on the ECU. Seems to affect them all I have learnt!

Cheers, I just had a panicked moment before I realised what was parked here before me :D it's an indoor car park so anything that leaks just lies. I seen your post about the ecu's, definitely an eye opener!
