Temperature dropped to something approaching normal for the time of year today after an unseasonally mild spell.  Perfect time to do the underseal on that inner arch and both sills then.  Employed the time honouring method of putting the tin of underseal in a pot of hot water, which worked very well.

I'll be refitting the stainless stonechip preventing trims next, which will help smarten things up and protect the doors.  The front passenger side arch liner is just catching on the tyre on full lock, so I'll have to see about getting another screw in to persuade it out of the way.

Popped out for a walk along Piccadilly at lunchtime. Tomorrow I shall try the Strand in search of fruit but today was all about finding some sushi (I am so blue collar it hurts sometimes).

Anyway I found myself outside the much lauded Piccadilly MG Dealer so I popped in. A nice man asked me if I saw anything I liked and I had to say yes, very much so....

Not for sale though.

Where on Piccadilly is that? I have a meeting at Burlington house in a fortnight and could pop in to lower the tone.

In boring news, I am back in Surrey after a high speed* run from north wales. 180miles in 3 hours 15mins. Not a bad average with 70miles non motorway. Fuel consumption was not the best though- I reckon 25ish. Although accelerating towards 90 up the stockenchurch cutting probably didn’t help. In mitigation there was a drug dealer in a white RR with blacked out windows trying to park in the boot.

It is literally about 50 metres away. Come out of Burlington house onto Piccadilly, turn left and there you are. If you are about at lunchtime let me know, I may pop along and assist with tone lowering!

So my car has had a health check. They sent me a video of the car on the ramp by email and they found the following:

1. Front brake pads down to 2 mm. Front wheels binding. One of the discs is corroded.

2. Oil leak

3. Power steering leak

I'm not much of a mechanic btw. I was hoping to nurse the car up to July when the MOT's due but it appears that the brakes need attention quick.

I'm being a bit careful with money nowadays, have given a lot of money to main dealers over the years and so I'll ask the garage near my place of work to take a look.

Strip and clean up of the front calipers and new pads should be less than a couple of hours labour unless everything is unbelievably stuffed. I'm guessing you should get change from £100 but I'm now in the expensive South.

Oil leaks really just need cleaning up and monitoring to see if it's a bit of a weep or exon valdise levels of leakage.

It’s the 15th, I have committee until 12.30, then our AGM and then lunch. Should be out by 3ish. Can’t get away for lunch I’m afraid - I’m the chairman and will be noticed missing!

I thought the pic looked like fortnums colours outside.

I’m trying to get the Mercedes booked in for a service and mot the same day so I can drive to the garage and catch the train to Waterloo from isleworth. #cheapskate.

That’s fair enough. Sorry ladies and gentlemen but the chairman is looking at an MG3 isn’t going to work for many shareholders!

Thanks, I don’t tend to walk from that direction.

Edit.,

I wonder what they’d say if I went in with my three piece suit, watch chain, overcoat and fedora and asked to test drive something after my meeting next door?

What do they sell these days? That showroom must cost a fortune to operate.

I imagine they'd direct you to Bristol Cars.

Sir obviously has a misunderstanding about the customer’s financial and social standing.

....and this from someone who lives in the Queen's back garden(s).

I have been to Nuneaton and back to South Wales, I have confirmed that I don't like driving much these days. The day started well* the Land Rover is currently in disgrace so my good mate offered his MINI Cooper S Clubman, unfortunately it has not been driven recently so beep, beep, nothing, I think it has a flat battery, so the journey was made in the C15 van. It trundles along quite happily, but lacks any oomph to get out of the way when other people do stupid things. It also has an invisibility cloak, so cars merging from slip roads try to squash you into the vehicles in the next lane in heavy traffic. It survived the round trip better than I did, but along the way has developed a clonky on the nearside, which I think might be from the driveshaft/joint. Still the totally unnecessary chair that I went to pick up is very nice, I just find it hard to understand how anyone can drive for a living as I'm totally knackered.

Why pay £20 an hour to do it yourself when a lot of smaller workshops are only charging 40 an hour to suck their teeth and maybe do it for you in the next year or so. (Or not at all)

FTFY. ;)

I doubt if they would know what to do, I don’t think anyone has actually bought anything from them before

Further around I discovered something. If you work hard, commit, and strive to greatness, you too can have the things of your dreams. Such as a sporty black two door number.

You know you are Autoshite when you see this and say “wow, that’s an early mk3 Polo”

What even is that other thing?  Some kind of Bentley?  It looks very "new money" whatever it is.

There's a company called 'kill all wipers' that specialise in delete kits for rear wipers.

I actually hope that the "business man" who sells £1 worth of product (If that) for £10 is actually a fat 70 year old pensioner who is making enough undeclared income to spend Winter in Bankock having all his lifelong fantasies cum true.

I really would also like to see this on Dragons Den.

Check and replace fluids at every fill up and get the brakes sorted.

Discs and pads are easy to do and worth the cost of the tools if you’re going to keep the car. Maybe a localish shiter could show you how.

Thanks guys. I never want to touch the brakes on a car...even back in the 1990s when I had a Mini and Escort IV that were easy to DIY. Car's booked in next week at a grage just around the corner from my work so it'll be handy.

My wife's 05 reg avensis went in for a recall on the airbags the other month. I was sent an email with the health check video on from toyota. All they could find wrong was it had one steel wheel on and gaffer tape on bumper. I was happy with that for an 05 plate car on 114000 miles

Discs and pads are much easier than anything I ever did on my mini.

It is even easier booking it in somewhere though.

The former or the latter?
