Bonus points to whoever can name all the parts changed and what other cars I've nicked them from.

Wheels from an Audi and, given the slanted angle, the suspension from a Princess?

Fleet reduction is progressing as usual (badly).

It's smaller than the one that went out at least.

Wheels look Alfa to me. Unless they're Ronals...

As for other stuff, Laguna splitter (of course it is), and chrome trim delete.

Some fuck face round here has been burning leaves on a bonfire, it’s left every car on our end of the street pebbledashed in ash!

The Volvo was minging with it so gave it a good wash and polish up. Much better now but it has revealed the lacquer on the roof and bonnet has gotten worse over the course of this year. It’s always had tiny little cracks in the lacquer but they’re now opening up and starting to peel. There’s a few patches of dull flat paint too where the lacquer’s gone. I think it’ll have to have a bonnet and roof respray soon.

Anyway while on a roll I’ve finally got the superglue out and glued the windscreen trims. There’s an ally trim around the screen with a plastic finisher down the edge, the plastics got old and come away from the metal at the top of the screen, both sides, leaving a curved bit of plastic curling out over the top of the screen. A run of glue and holding them in place for a few mins seems to have done the trick. Why I didn’t do it before now I don’t know!

Nothing much ever happens with the Mo_Sterling fleet. However, yesterday, I went and paid for my storage and decided to to actually do something with the Rovers. I set about pulling off the completely disintegrated tarpaulins. The G-reg Sterling still needs a cover as it still leaks inside into the passenger footwell.

The interior of the G-reg is horrible now, the headlining is utterly fucked and disintegrating fast, some of the interior is starting to mould and I had to get rid of more water from the passenger footwell again and now the leather seats feel hard. The E-reg Mk1 is strangley better, but then it doesn't leak inside, the Mk2 827 Sterling is much nicer, it still has that nice leather smell inside and feels as if it could be used again with little work, although, it doesn't start at all now.

I gave the 2 other Sterlings a wash (yes! An actual wash and scrub up) I opened the doors to give them some air and got rid of the cobwebs building up. As I whimsically wished I could have some proper under cover storage for my cars so I can tinker with them and make some actual progress, I had a peek in the unit next doors window and what do I spy? A White H-reg Mk1 Sterling!!!!

20180930_112113.jpg

Outside the unit is a MG ZR and a Mini, I assumed they owned by the same guy who had the unit so I asked the yard owner for the phone number but somehow there must have been some sort of miscommunication as he gave me the phone number of the guy who owned the Mini.

Today I went up and met the owner of the Mini, who, it turned out had nothing to do with the unit next door :| Anyhow, I'm kind of glad I met him as he likes tinkering with cars and rebuilt his Mini himself. He has offered to help me out fixing the Sterlings if needs be and we are probably looking to go on halves on a unit depending on costs.

I swept off all the cobwebs on the engines and coated the metal parts in WD40, it'll help but it isn't exactly a preservative.

As always, as soon as I got back into town I popped into my local charity shoppes to pick up a couple of DVDs I'd had my eye on.

Annoyingly, they also had these in:

Yes, they are proper floor mats for a Daewoo Lanos, a fucking Daewoo Lanos like what I got for Jim Bell a few months ago, I've bought the floor mats in case anyone wanted them, they are proper Deawoo items. They'd have happily have finished up in that Lanos, what ever happened to it anyway?

That Lanos was last seen with JohnK man. Talk of b230-ing it iirc.

Fully makes me regret selling it. Such a brilliant car. So unpractical though :(

Aye, the boot is tiny and the rear seats might as well not be there, but look at it  . Always gets looks when out and about in it.

The old Laguna heard I was booking an MOT this week and decided to be all French about it.  Wouldn't want a warning-light-free dash now would we?

Looks good in red, have ford got on top of the headgasket issues yet? I know there was whispers that mid 2017 built cars were revised but you never know what to believe

I no longer own a Peugeot 205, but I do now own a diesel C-class Merc.  Here it is parked next to a rather lovely early V6 XM in the Roys of Wroxham car park:

It may be cosmetically rough as a badger's arse, but by feck does it drive nice.  Decent seats, comfy ride, plenty of poke and a nice 5-cylinder warble when given a bootful.  I like it more than I was expecting to.  Which leaves me in a bit of a dilemma, as I have another large comfy wafty automatic diesel estate in the shape of the Rover 75, and it'd be daft to keep both in the long term.  The Merc is much quicker than the Rover, uses less diesel and sounds better, but the Rover is in better nick and has a nicer interior (IMHO at least).  The Merc also doesn't have a towbar.  Hmmm.

The Hymac has a burst tyre and is way beyond just replacing the tube.

Was tinkering with the Morris today, not been started up in a while and all.

Weather was naff and whenever I put the garage door up the wind would blow it down to about 1/4 open so justs left it there.

Running an old 1950’s car in an enclosed space and limited ventilation was a great idea*...

Wheels are Ronals.

Chrome trim delete is correct (and is as a stock L should be anyway)

Front end is French but no Renaults were burgled

Side skirts are German in origin.

19 news from the past week. After binning the trims the wheels needed a tidy up.

Before

After. Not the best job but it'll do.

Whilst the rear wheels were off I also wire brushed the rather crusty brake drums and suspension components, and bathed the latter in Dynax S50. I also coated the fuel tank as that looked crusty in places.

It was hesitating quite badly under light throttle, so carb cleaner was applied plus a new air filter and it seems better. Not totally sorted but less pronounced.

I also took it for a run today down to Dungeness. I left hideously early at 4.30am in order to see the sun rise at the RSPB reserve, and it was worth it.

Apart from a slight hot start issue, raising the revs once it's fired seems to work, 140 miles were done without issue. So on that basis I reckon it's good for a day trip to France next Saturday, for a mooch around the Picardy region and a visit 'home' to the George Besse factory in Douai. I'm not sure how close you can get to the plant, but I'm sure I'll find some Renault signage for a photo opp.

Watch some wood turning accident videos and you will never want to see one again.

I used to have one myself. I was experienced at using it but I had the chisel fly out of my hands and stab itself into my face mask.

I sold it on gumtree later that week.

MX5 national rally was achieved yesterday...

It was ok, but nowhere near as fun and friendly as SaabFest to be honest.

Still 300 miles covered in the MX and she ran spot on!

Getting antsy about houses now. The chances of us moving in December is getting higher with every passing week. We at least have a new shortlist, frustratingly some of the houses on the shortlist are properites that sold before we got to view them the first time around much earlier in the year and that makes me think there's probably something wrong with them and we'll have the same sort of merry old dance that has caused us to have three failed purchases so far.

I only need to give one month notice on my current place, bf needs to give 2. That, combined with the predicted 4-6 weeks of paperwork from the point you agree to buy the house to being allowed to move in does not give me much confidence that there's enough time for it to happen this year.

If I never take part in trying to buy another house, it will be too soon.

The only quick way of buying is to buy at auction.

For that to happen you need either money in the bank or a lot of credit cards with massive credit limits.

Despite driving 95 miles last night in the dark and pissing down rain arriving in Wolverhampton before midnight, I can say is rather did that than attend such a gathering.

For a little while we paid to be in the club for insurance purposes, but the monthly magazine smugness made me want to seek out the contributors and punch them in the fanny.
