.... the thick layer of snow in the winter. ...

For me, this is a selling point. The more snow, the better.

I'm in a 4 bed 1970s semi in a cul-de-sac, 5 minutes walk from Paisley town centre; Paisley Canal station is about three minutes walk with a half hourly rail connection to Glasgow, I have a three car driveway and a large garage; it was £168k at the turn of the year.

I have no midges either.

Same in Ayrshire 170,000 would get you something pretty nice here . 140 would get a 3 bed semi.

That might actually be interesting in time as after this time next year I'll have no ties.

Please let me know if this becomes of interest at that time - I have no idea how long my tenant will stay but I might even own another in the same area by then :)

Chez Ghosty is a three-bed (well, two and a spare) detached house with a two car drive, garage, and moderately sized garden. 9 miles out of Manchester, anything you could possibly want within 20 minutes, train station with 4 trains an hour to the city centre, that take 15 minutes.

Parents bought it for 80k in 1998.

Probably more like 250k now.

The Clio has lived up to its Frenchness and the driver's window no longer works. Trouble is it stopped working whilst in the fully down position...good job this only happened later in the day and the weather remained lovely!

I did have a brief fiddle with the switch in France, but now being home I popped the cover off again and extracted it. Renault in their wisdom used different connectors for OS and NS windows, so you can't just swap them over.

With some contact cleaner and loads of fiddling I managed to get the window shut, but it was a faff so a new switch is needed.

your car insurance will likely be cheaper

I reckon motor insurance would be piss cheap. Certainly was when I was in G84.

I was insuring stuff in FK10 for stupidly low amounts despite being a crash prone <20 year old. It sucks in England.

4G32 1.6 has a few leaks, a single carb, a Capri radiator and some broken winter trunking. Easily fixed.

Productive couple of days on my ex Bornite/Also Mike 306 cab. Fitted a new rear screen and a complete set of new hood hydraulic hoses, all now operating perfectly, no leaks! Undamaged upper door trims replace wonky and bubbled ones, side rubbing strips satin blacked and all electric window regulators fully lubed for summer action. Knackered fuel gauge turned out to be a dry joint in the cluster.....Mot time tommorow.....attachicon.gif_20180525_193750.JPGattachicon.gifDSC_0589.JPGattachicon.gifDSC_0643.JPGattachicon.gifDSC_1317.JPG

Swapped over the semi blocked washer jets for more effective Xsara mist items.

And as the rear hood bin vinyl cover was beginning to shrink I plucked up the courage of having a bash of recovering it. post-20412-0-84407100-1528950182_thumb.jpg

Turned out to be a right royal fiddly pain in the arse to do and although not quite perfect im pleased enough with the end result. post-20412-0-95817500-1528950479_thumb.jpg

I also took the chance to fit a non perished front screen sponge weatherseal whilst I was in the mood to get covered in Sikaflex and contact adhesive! post-20412-0-17668700-1528951264_thumb.jpg

Next job will be the clutch as in my experience with 306s its heavy pedal will be down to an aged pressure plate. For the time being however I'm going to enjoy the car as is before the sun disappears!post-20412-0-11183700-1528950817_thumb.jpg

FTFY. You know it makes sense Rob.

Even the dodgy eBay sellers who don’t ask for docs don’t make “show” plates any more!

Wifey works on reception at CAB one day a week. She had a bloke in who was having housing issues because he had a criminal conviction for making number plates without going through the correct procedure. He was a signmarker and noticed a gap in the market, set up a website and would make any plate with any spacing for anyone.

He didn't go to prison but was fined under the proceeds of crime legislation.

Wife said his life seemed pretty ducked up

At some point in the (hopefully distant) future I will have a flat in Ayrshire for rent at 300 PCM (shiter discount available) - there’s photos in the open forum.

I could do it at c.265 a month for a shiter who was willing to forego an agent and have a direct contract with me

I keep saying openrent.co.uk

Doncaster.

It does as not many of the small towns have big supermarkets, just smaller branches that charge crazy 'tesco local' type prices. My lass lives on an Island that has two co-ops, people still take the £27 return (car & driver) ferry to the mainland to do a monthly shop as it works out cheaper.

Doncaster. Could be worse, could be Rotherham, Denaby or Mexborough.

brought the camera in today to take pics of the lovely cars outside and forgot the sd card!

This morning we have had a ferrari dino (yellow), a 1932 wolsey hornet that's done 120 miles in the last ten years ( I checked the mot history), a couple of 1970s porsche 911s and another xk120/140. Plus an American woody estate I didn't see the bonnet of, so don't know what it was.

Regarding property: I live in a 3-bed terraced house on a narrow street with no off-street parking. We* bought it for £89k in 2005, re-decorated it and fitted gas central heating, and a couple of years back it was valued at £180k.

Aberdeen property prices are mental. If I ever get round to buying a property of my own, it will be in a cheaper part of Scotland.

*my parents bought it, then me and my 3 siblings have all lived in it at one point or another, as a mortgage on a cheap property was cheaper than rent (as in, we pay our shares of the mortgage rather than rent). It's just luck that it's turned into such a goldmine.

BBC Scotland News today.

Older cars face Glasgow city centre ban.

"Older cars will be banned from Glasgow city centre in four years time after councillors agreed to extend a low emission zone (LEZ) to all vehicles.

An LEZ will apply to 20% buses from the end of 2018, rising to 100% by December 2022. Cars will need to meet the strict standards from the end of 2022.

After that date petrol cars made before 2005 and diesels built before September 2014 will not be allowed in the zone". . . .

"Drivers entering the zone in cars made before these dates will be fined, with automatic number plate recognition systems being set up around the city centre".

Hopefully that means First will need to stop using such fucking shitey knackered buses then!

Doesn't mention how large the zone is. Enforceable in practice? Doubt it.

Could still be a PITA for Glasgow Autoshiters tho. (I posted this half an hour ago in Captn 70's Triumph thread then moved it here instead to save messing up that ongoing Triumph thread).

It was Mrs T's birthday today, and she fancied going to France for the day. So off we went, tunnel this time.

After a nice lunch in Le Touquet we strolled and I did some spotting (although this 20 was a lazy sat in car spot).

A 20?! Finding one of them would be a definite stop the car (having turned around if need be) and get out job for me in France. On a longish journey I'll sometimes forego lesser spots in the hope of stumbling across something like that.

I won't be surprised if that spreads further. They keep threatening about it in Bristol. To be honest, with all hot, still weather at the moment you can really feel the pollution when breathing around the city. So I'm pretty much for it.

Often they have exemptions for classics though.

Glasgow city centre's a hellhole for driving anyway since the council labelled every other road a 24hr buslane and started soaking drivers for millions every year; I'd rather rub my bobby up a roughcast wall than go there in a car.

As for property it might be more expensive than Doncaster but it'll be the same as most of the rest of Scotland. My sister recently moved to Dunoon and it was super cheap.

I though the salary banding went between NHS board? Is the banding not potentially different for Argyll and Bute?

Dunoon prices are quite depressed even by Argyll and Bute standards because it's still not worked out what it's for since the Yank sub base upped sticks in 1992 and the recent shitness of the ferry to Gourock caused a lot of commuters to sell up. The local council are shit and have let the place end up looking like an east german baltic resort circa 1972, which doesn't help.
