Orkney! Even further north than this years!

There’s a 3 bed house going to auction later this month on one of the Orkney isles - £41k guide. Assume it’s utterly fucked inside.

If I had some surplus cash knocking about I’d be seriously tempted - what an amazing place to be able to escape to

I've only spent a day there, but yeah it's an amazing place.

The roads in Shetland are really nice and I have seen some chod.

Opel manta

Escort MK3

Berlingo vans

Sunbeam Imp

MGB

Vauxhall Nova

Buses from last century (will picture once home)

Boat shite is all over the place.

They had a classic car show while we had shitefest.

However getting a car here is £stupid and camping in a tent is not an option if you have brain cells remaining.

I do need to visit Shetland at some point, just because it's there.

You do, the roads are brilliant & empty.

Nah, I hear Pandas are the car for that.... (sorry)

Can't both are NHS jobs so banded & I'm already top of the band so can't inflate it.

Housing & shopping. It's in the Highlands & just doing a weekly shop costs more up there.

I've had a brief look at house prices and don't see them as appalling but I live in Aberdeen and perhaps you can buy a 2up-2down in Donnay for thruppence ha'penny.

Don't forget that council tax rates are lower up here (and they include water charges), dental checkups are free (and work is subsidised), eye tests are free, prescriptions are free, your car insurance will likely be cheaper and the NHS works better.

You can gie it laldy as both discount supermarkets are in Oban and the ferries are subsidised for local types.

The minimum booze price is only an issue if you drink meths, white spirit or cheap cider and the income tax rate will likely be lower but is more than cancelled out by council tax rates if you are one of the 6 or 7 % at the top end.

To explain house prices, I've got a rough 3 bed semi with garage in a cheaper part of donny for £71k last october. That appears to be the price of a flat up there.

What’s the going rate for a trendy new build 2 bed flat in abz? I’m paying £246k for one in Gloucester and I thought that was a lot but I bet it barely touches the sides - I reckon you’re almost at London money

I WANT TO LIVE IN SCOTLAND NOW

At some point in the (hopefully distant) future I will have a flat in Ayrshire for rent at 300 PCM (shiter discount available) - there’s photos in the open forum.

I could do it at c.265 a month for a shiter who was willing to forego an agent and have a direct contract with me

I like the idea of living in Scotland. Then I see pictures of the Shitefest midge attack in the summer and the thick layer of snow in the winter.

I'm too much of a softy southerner for any of that!

That might actually be interesting in time as after this time next year I'll have no ties.

.... the thick layer of snow in the winter. ...

For me, this is a selling point. The more snow, the better.

I'm in a 4 bed 1970s semi in a cul-de-sac, 5 minutes walk from Paisley town centre; Paisley Canal station is about three minutes walk with a half hourly rail connection to Glasgow, I have a three car driveway and a large garage; it was £168k at the turn of the year.

I have no midges either.

Same in Ayrshire 170,000 would get you something pretty nice here . 140 would get a 3 bed semi.

Please let me know if this becomes of interest at that time - I have no idea how long my tenant will stay but I might even own another in the same area by then :)

Chez Ghosty is a three-bed (well, two and a spare) detached house with a two car drive, garage, and moderately sized garden. 9 miles out of Manchester, anything you could possibly want within 20 minutes, train station with 4 trains an hour to the city centre, that take 15 minutes.

Parents bought it for 80k in 1998.

Probably more like 250k now.

The Clio has lived up to its Frenchness and the driver's window no longer works. Trouble is it stopped working whilst in the fully down position...good job this only happened later in the day and the weather remained lovely!

I did have a brief fiddle with the switch in France, but now being home I popped the cover off again and extracted it. Renault in their wisdom used different connectors for OS and NS windows, so you can't just swap them over.

With some contact cleaner and loads of fiddling I managed to get the window shut, but it was a faff so a new switch is needed.

I reckon motor insurance would be piss cheap. Certainly was when I was in G84.

I was insuring stuff in FK10 for stupidly low amounts despite being a crash prone <20 year old. It sucks in England.

Productive couple of days on my ex Bornite/Also Mike 306 cab. Fitted a new rear screen and a complete set of new hood hydraulic hoses, all now operating perfectly, no leaks! Undamaged upper door trims replace wonky and bubbled ones, side rubbing strips satin blacked and all electric window regulators fully lubed for summer action. Knackered fuel gauge turned out to be a dry joint in the cluster.....Mot time tommorow.....attachicon.gif_20180525_193750.JPGattachicon.gifDSC_0589.JPGattachicon.gifDSC_0643.JPGattachicon.gifDSC_1317.JPG

Swapped over the semi blocked washer jets for more effective Xsara mist items.

And as the rear hood bin vinyl cover was beginning to shrink I plucked up the courage of having a bash of recovering it. post-20412-0-84407100-1528950182_thumb.jpg

Turned out to be a right royal fiddly pain in the arse to do and although not quite perfect im pleased enough with the end result. post-20412-0-95817500-1528950479_thumb.jpg

I also took the chance to fit a non perished front screen sponge weatherseal whilst I was in the mood to get covered in Sikaflex and contact adhesive! post-20412-0-17668700-1528951264_thumb.jpg

Next job will be the clutch as in my experience with 306s its heavy pedal will be down to an aged pressure plate. For the time being however I'm going to enjoy the car as is before the sun disappears!post-20412-0-11183700-1528950817_thumb.jpg
