The money that would have been spent on it instead got used to turn the city's trams into a life size trainset for Transport for Greater Manchester. It's more expensive than buses, and as it was seemingly use it or lose it, it only serves areas they could slap a line without too much objection from locals etc.

In other words, shitholes. Antisocial behaviour is an issue.

Cycling in the city can be dicey with all the rails embedded in the street (especially on wet days). I had a Worst Bus driver pull out on me without indicating while I was riding up a railed street today. Had to dive onto the wrong side of the road to stay the right way up.

I checked my tyre pressures today. They were all correct.

 

However, yesterday I did a 'factory reset' on the gearbox (really easy!) and it has actually changed the way the gearbox responds! I am amazed something that costs nothing doing what it's supposed to do!

Saw a lovely Volvo 240 the other day down in Folkestone and saw it again this evening, except the owner was nearby. Asked him about the car and we chatted for about 5 minutes about why he loved it and uses it as his work vehicle for painting and decorating. Prefers it to a van because the ladders are easier to access! He didn’t know about the legendary Volvo scrapyard.

 

Made my evening. My Mum has an identical one when I was about 8 and it brought it flooding back. Same year of manufacture, too.

On one hand the Acclaim returned 42mpg on my trip to Shitefest and back, on the other hand it is now showing signs of OMGHGF and big end knock.

Made this metal rose for mrs fps mum, she liked the one I made for mrs fp and wanted one so i knocked one up to give her on Friday to cheer her up as its the anniversary of her mum passing away, I did this one a little different and painted it im putting it in a small pot, not bad for a bit of scrap I had lying around, the stem is painted ford Pacific green and the flower head is ford radiant red

The stem looks straight but it isn't it has a couple of bends in it to look a little more natural but the perspective of the picture doesn't show it

Civic is back out in the fresh air. Even though it was in a garage, somehow it got covered in the sandy dust that is heavily around at the moment. Possibly not a bad thing for a garage though, as I guess it means there is plenty of airflow?

 

Will be sad to see this go. Funny getting back into it. Has a distinct soft, familiar smell to the interior. Off to my in-laws, so it's not like I won't see it again though.

 

MGB is up in the garage now. Some young kids hanging off a fence by a house shouted over that they really loved my car. Kinda made my evening a bit.

 

Gave it a good blast too. It does go around corners pretty well. Much better than I expected. You do have to manhandle it around and the seats obviously don't keep you cuddled in anywhere near like a modern car. Something unusual happened and I actually wanted to go for a bit longer journey. However I had to keep it short as I needed to get the Civic cleaned up ready for delivery tomorrow.

 

Definitely want to go out for a blast again in the next couple of days. I think the best time for me to go is in the evening when the roads are quieter. Plus I'm not in a rush or need to be back anytime soon. This give me 60% less anxiety and worry that it'll conk out, as if it does, I won't be massively inconvicenced by it.

 

I fear about it cutting out and not restarting especially. But that's all unfounded worry, as it happily sat there idling for a couple of minutes while I sorted the garage door lock out.

A 4" crack from one of the chips appeared in the Mondeo's windscreen yesterday while using the washers, powerful stuff that Asda screenwash. Hopefully it won't get any worse and is fairly low down but does mean that the scrapyard beckons when the MOT runs out in August. Not worth spending the excess for a new screen on a car that is using a pint of oil every 200 miles and also needs a new rear silencer. Coming up to 7000 miles in my ownership and apart from oil all I've spent on it is £4 for a wiper and £6 for an aerial. Just got a quote on the Motorwise site of £176 for scrap so would still be in front of the £160 I gave HMC for it. If anyone wants a tow bar for a mk3 estate I'll get that off before it goes.

 

The Rover 214 I had off my neighbour a few weeks back turned out to be fucked so has been scrapped. I had noticed a lot of crap out of the exhaust when he drove off but hoped it was down to being hardly used. Once I had a proper look at it the expansion tank was empty and when I topped it up the water was clear. He did mention it had to be flushed through for the last MOT due to emissions problems. Looks like no antifreeze was put back in by the garage that did it or he was meant to take it back to have it done. It probably had a cracked head or manifold as water was pissing out of the exhaust and if warmed up then given some revs over pressurised and pissed out of the expansion tank, oil was nice and clean though. Only gave him the scrap price for it so didn't cost me anything. It's a shame as it would have been handy as a spare particularly now the Mondeo is about to go. I did take the roof bars off it if anyone wants a set, proper Rover ones.

I went in low, they wanted £500. That did come down a fair bit, but I'm leaving it a bit before going in at £200. The next winter project?

Love these. Your fleet will be brilliant if you get this. If i can work on a Reliant engine then you will find it no problems.

Those little Foxes are brilliant ! If you get it, throw away the awful Reliant engine and install a lovely 1100cc FIRE. There's plenty of know-how on them, as the 750 Formula boys have been bolting them onto Reliant boxes for ages.

A carb-fed FIRE is hardly state-of-the-art ! Small, light, strong engines that are cheap as chips and really easy to fix.

can't you accidently deliver the titty and keep the vastly superior motor vehicle?

 

still think those type-s wheels would look better on a blueish-silver 1.8 though!

been to Stokesley this morning, which was nice. weather bit changable, but hey, this is england in "summer".

 

some lovely old motors on show, ranging from an aston martin DB2, to a beige Relaint Realto to an Avling and Barford Steam Roller.

 

we took the black mini, and the weather looked like it was going to get out until we got the polish out of the boot, and then the rain started.... oops!!

 

still a very nice day out.

 

 

then get home, and i hung the washing out only for it to get right dark outside and it start raining again......

 

still at least today there is no signs of the car getting hot an bothered, unlike yesterday when i brought the car home. on the climb out of hutton-le-Hole towards Castleton poor old Rodney got VERY hot..the climb isn't all that steep, but its long, like 5 or 6 miles and we had to climb it behine some soft old fool who wouldn't go any faster than 30 odd miles an hour. so we were in the wrong gear, going too slow and working hard, no wonder the car got hot and bothered. soon as we got passed The Lion where the road levels out, the tempreture came straight back down! at the time though it was concerning too see. then with the climb out of castleton which is steeper but not as long, we had no issues at all, but then we were able to maintain steady progress all the way up!

 

tomorrow, Muton Park with both mini's hope this flamin' weather sorts itself out.
