Come across a new (maybe?) place doing ramp hire in Gravesend. Cheapest way to do it is a four hour weekday evening session for £50.  However, four hours daytime in the week is not much more at £60. If anyone wants to go halves on a 'session' in the next month or so let me know. I want to do the oil and filter on my Mazda for a start, and would like to have a poke about and maybe get some vactan on the underneath.

A bit tired of working in the road at the mo.

Glad to help you if it means speeding the jobs up, thus making best use of the time. I've no use for a lift at the mo but good to know there's a localish place that does this. Metro exhaust will need doing at some point, but my only concern is cocking up the job (likely in my case) and being stuck there!

There's an outfit like that in Southend. Not had cause to use it, but it's good to know it exists.

Thanks Rob - the Base also needs oil and filter, fuel filter and other bits, so if it is any good, I could easily eat up some time there.

It anyone wants a bubble shape micra, come to pershore, only a small town but I reckon I've seen ten of the things today!

No.

My mum did seem concerned at the number of big beards about too. Her first 2cv meeting since a London to Brighton run in 2004.

The CX gearbox swallowed another half-litre of Dexron, with no discernible improvement. That's 2.5litres now since the slipping began, and it's starting to get a bit ridiculous. I still can't see any leaks, but the fluid must be going somewhere.....

Could be heat exchanger or faulty modulator valve sucking atf into engine?

Put my in-laws Corsa C up on Autotrader for them last night. Up for £950. 3 owners, 1.2, 5 door, working Aircon and 79500 on the clock.

Had 3 calls. One wanted it before 3pm, but my FiL wasn't in so that was a no-go. Third said to contact if the second person didn't have it there and then.

Second person came. Went for a test drive and the bloody thing put it's oil pressure light on. He reckoned it was oil pressure switch (quick Google after suggests it's a thing). It's had one before and he got told that but was pretty happy it was that. Anyway he offered £800 firm. FiL accepted it.

Probably not a bad thing as I know the chain tensioners can go on them and other oil pump related problems. He was happy anyway, so his problem now whatever caused it.

So basically a hassle free sale. Being under a grand, it didn't cost anything to list either. I suspect as Autotrader gives a different number than your own, it stops people texting and get rid of the time wasters.

Best bit it means that my Civic is off to them now, freeing up my lockup garage to take my MGB. Which leaves my drive free for a certain Austin 1100. :)

To be fair, most of the 2CV women are beard free.

I hope all of those cars are taxed and on MID if there’s no trade plates....

Just because its not on MID doesn't mean its not covered by trade insurance. You're required to put it on if you're going to use it on the road for more than 7 days or something, but it's not not universal - if its on the road, it must be on MID - isn't correct.

Tbe certificate of insurance is the proof of insurance. Not MID. That's just indicative.

Understand the letter of the law but it’s 90000% less hassle to either be on MID or run on trade plates than having to explain to a copper what the score is.

CIE makes it a pain to be taxed and not on MID too

Trade plates are for VED only. Nothing to do with insurance.

Yes, less hassle to be on mid, but sometimes not practical.

Tradewise were dreadful, took days to get on - sometimes not at all. Currently I've an app and it's on immediately, literally within moments.

Interesting. If the fluid was being sucked into the engine, surely I would have either some dodgy substances in the coolant (which I don't have) or some weird burning smells / smoky exhaust (which I don't have either)?

Trade plates are on MID and go a long way to convince a copper / camera that you’re legal. I know they’re only for VED, I held them for long enough, but they still stop you pinging up as uninsured.

(I don’t understand why they changed the rules that now say you must not cover the original reg of the vehicle - opposite of what it used to be, surely that causes loads of confusion with cameras?!)

Since I got the Rover on the 31st of March, I've done 2.5k miles in it. Which when I have the more modern and frugal diesel 407 sitting there, is a bit stupid. I just love driving the thing though.

The Peugeot can be hustled along very swiftly and in great comfort, grip abounds, it has a good stereo and will easily get well over 50mpg, but I prefer the old Rover, go figure.

I either need to assign the Rover to more local duties, or flog the Pug...

My 1971 Fiat 500 just passed an MOT with just one advisory for minor play in the kingpins. I know that it is now MOT exempt, but I am planning on selling it and figured a new MOT would help give interested parties a bit of reassurance that it is as good as it looks.

Shitefest A-frame antics in the making...

Forgive me, is it an R8?

I remember my mate being on his arse in about 2004. It was all going to shit, and he bought one for £200 out of a newsagent window card. I remember being in it thinking ‘hang on a minute - this isn’t shit at ALL’! It was a real eureka moment. It was honestly perfect - seats were sublime, nice ride, great visibility, sweet little engine.

Somehow, I’ve still not owned one - although I nearly convinced Bollox to sell me his old Henley Blue one a couple of years ago now.

I have to try one soon. Ideally G reg and in a shit colour.

Yeah, it is mate. 1993 R8 Auto.

Pretty much mirror what you say, it's a perfect size too, plenty boot space but without being a big cumbersome thing. Not a massive amount of room for those in the back, but I've no pals because I drive an old Rover, so it really doesn't matter.

I manage to get 38mpg out it over a fairly undulating 30ish mile A and B road commute, which is really good for a 90's auto but not close to the diesels I've used for the journey until now, so it does cost more in that regard. Maintenance costs are minimal though and it's a good car to work on. Everything is easily accessible and I've not had any troublesome fasteners yet *touches wood*. Depreciation should be almost non existent...

I booked the Merc into a local specialist to look at the ABS/BAS fault 'cos it was irritating me, the bloke I spoke to did as well to be hnest but they were well regarded... I think. But, before I did, I fitted a new brake light switch which made no difference but when I got home yesterday evening I decided to take it all out and check it was adjusted properly, it wasn't but in my defence, it's easy to get wrong. Then I took all the connectors off the ABS pump and cleaned them with switch cleaner and generally had a cleaning session in that area. I didn't bother trying it because matey at the garage had just read the codes which said a solenoid has gone in the pump.

Just been out in it, and driven it quite a bit, over all the bumpy roads we have down here and the light has stayed off! It has never stayed off this long or through so many stop/start cycles, usually 2nd start of the day and it's beeping and flashing. Maybe...

Also, just took my brave pills and went ans saw Ursula at the dentists, tad frosty to begin with but okay after a minute or so, the proper test will be at 10:45 on Thursday when she will get the opportunity to inflict pain (or rather, tell the dentist to inflict pain while she laughs!) she thought I was mad to have pulled my own tooth out but hey, renewing old acquintances is sometimes more painful! :)  Sadly, they are the ones that have all my dental imprints which I need to get a new tooth where now there is a gap....

You might have stuck lucky, a dodgy connection can show as an open circuit. Fingers crosses & good luck with the dentist.

R8s are gr8.  I bought mine because "I might as well" and even though it's been beaten every day of its life before I got it, it's a really trouble-free thing to live with.  When you fix stuff on them, it stays fixed.  They tolerate an incredible amount of neglect even with a flawed-from-new K series in them.  Tens of thousands of allotment grandads can't be wrong!

Won an auction for some shite this morning, but I appear to be lumbered with an uncommunicative seller. Probably sold too cheaply, and the listing did contain the old 'advertised elsewhere' line. I was hoping to collect it this evening so I could test it out and do some tinkering before Friday's Scotland trip.

Cash waiting, collect 2nite m8. Frustrating!

I used the Dulux inside.

That would be matt nato green. There are dents and rust all over it and I dont want to fix any of it so im going to paint over it all and pretend it isn't there.

5 litres should see me right to keep painting over it for a while after it shows through again after a week/rainshower.

^^^ That's common with a lot of autoboxes, most of them have an oil cooler & a lot share it with the engine rad.

The replacement new rad for our MX5 was sold as suitable for manual and automatic cars and had an extra inlet and outlet for the auto box fluid. I obviously ignored them.
