I don't think the XU petrol engines are that economical.....

Now you tell me ;)

Had a nice day out at the Kings Lynn auction.  Bargain of the day was a G-plate Metro 1.3L - paintwork a bit scabby but one owner and 29K on the clock, made £125.  Even with commission that's only £245 - the engine would sell for more than that to a Mini molester.  Other highlights included a disabled-converted Rancho and no fewer than three Austin 16s.

Got home and there was a knock on my door - a local lad who'd seen my Mazda 121 about, then spotted it for sale on Gumtree so came to have a look.  He turned up in an immaculate G reg 323 saloon.  He took the 121 for a test drive, we agreed a price and he left a deposit - he should be picking it up on Tuesday.  We had a chat about cars, as you do, and it turns out he knows Trigger (although that's hardly surprising as most of East Anglia seems to know Trigger).

He is on the "shite cars for sale" group on FB - and he's well chuffed with himself for bagging this little beauty!

This rather satisfying sight greeted me on Flickr.

Two different photographers in two different streams, perfectly aligned.

(I want the one on the right)

My old 1.4 pez zx wasn't too bad tbh. More economical on the back roads than sat on a run on the motorway, but not too bad, I didn't notice much of a difference between it and my 1.9td

How is the 405 going out of interest? I miss those comfy seats....

It and the LS00 are having a bit of R&R at Andy's Garage, new clutch and exhaust manifold gasket in the 405's case.

LS400 started making some horrible noises when braking on the way to work on Friday, so I didn't brake for the final 12 miles of the commute, or back out to Stanley.

Takes some reading ahead in rush hour..

I'd rather the odd LHM drip than the crashy rear beam the ZX has.

Someone local is selling a nice high miler 1.8 LX but I don't think the XU petrol engines are that economical.....

What are the rear shocks like? A new(-ish) pair can transform the ride.

Agreed, but not if the trailing arm bearings are borked (which is a common 1990s PSA problem).

It's a £60 ZX that's got a broken drivers door lock, boot lock, plastic rear quarter window and fist sized rust holes in both inner front wings. I wouldn't be surprised if the rear arm was completely shot too given the noises it makes...

Still reasonably fun to drive. And it's one of the earliest Turbo D ones left. I guess there's probably a maniac out there whod restore it, but that person isn't me.

Aye, granted, but it sounds like it won't be your last ZX and the rear dampers on these are a doddle to take off again and fit to the next one...!

I now have two belt driven vehicles. One borked its exhaust on the way to my mates place in Essex yesterday.

It was successfully bodged..

:-D

Installation was a piece of piss as the horn already had a relay etc. Just needed a bit of help mounting it.

No pics of the happening or the repair cos I forgot camera. Too hot.

Discovered then that the 340 doesn't have a vario cover.

In Monte Carlo, it's Ferraris and the Casino, in Kent it's the bingo and a Kenari...

I've just got home after driving the 2cv down the motorways from north Wales to surrey. A bit of fuel vaporisation after filling up and a sticky throttle round Birmingham but otherwise ok. Over twelve moderns on the hard shoulders of the m54, 6 and 40 though.

Just driving back along the M4 from Newbury to Bristol in the Laguna with the missus at the helm. Currently averaging 31.4mpg with the aircon on and crusing at a respectable speed.

A lot of police out tonight though! We've seen 3 undercover cars pulled over different cars and 1 police car taking their usual spot in the Police vehicles only layby, westbound between the two Swindon junctions. Naturally with the roof line just above the shrubbery and the policeman lying flat on top with his speed gun pointing out. With the sun on his back, it makes him pretty invisible!

On Friday, we hit the road in the 2CV for the Bristol Classic Car Show. Here's the 2CV in Crickhowell, which has become our 'some old charter' - the Welsh Tebay.

We spent two days manning the stand for Kelsey Media, selling quality* items such as this. Actually, we flogged five copies!

Crivens!

Nice colour. Not a bad Morgan either.

We buggered off to Wells on Saturday night, as our hotel was chronically awful. Splat the rat!

On the Saturday, Elly the 2CV spent the day with this lovely Ford Zephyr Zodiac.

On Sunday, it all went wrong.

Manta Club put on a fine display, including this pair.

More headlamp wiper goodness.

Then we packed up and drove home, via Gloucester Services - some old charter southern chapter.

It was so bloody hot that we had to have the windows open for extra ventilation, even with the roof back. On the motorway. The suspension started groaning as all the grease melted, and the wipers kept refusing to turn off after I'd washed the screen. In fact, they just randomly started going at one point after we hit a bump. I can tell you there are an awful lot of bends between Shepton Mallet and our house. I was bloody shattered by the time I got home. It's about 150 miles, after a day manning a stand.

Now I need to clean the 2CV up so you can actually see out through the windscreen, as many flies died on our way home. I also need to grease various bits before Mrs DW heads out in it tonight. I do have the bits to sort the Nippa out now, and the Bluebird has a plan of action, but where's all the time?! Gone, wasted writing stuff like this...

Vectra's failed the MOT:

Rear fog lamp not working (1.3.2b)

Central Rear Seat belt locking mechanism does not secure or release (5.2.5a)
Offside Rear Trailing arm rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2)
Nearside Rear Trailing arm rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2)
Fuel system component leaking possible fuel pump (7.2.3)

Could have been worse, the garage were just a bit odd, really.

The seat belt failed as it was tied in a knot (Lord knows why) but sorted that.
Rear fog light was the bulb holder not in properly, sorted that.
'Possible fuel pump' was a leak off pipe, will be sorting that.
Just the bushes really, might try them at home but will see what garage prices are.

Gate 0 : tooSavvy 1

Despite a late rush (of rotten ribs) almost stealing the match, a seasoned pro swiftly marshalled a 'sandwich formation' +extra long Decking Screws - thus putting the 'last nail' into any chance of a defeat.

Tool of the Match goes to: B&Q cordless drill/driver :)

Insurance renewed. Direct Line again.

£309 on the Laguna for the wife, 10k p/a, 9yrs ncb and £100 excess.

£339 on the Civic for me, 13k p/a, 9yrs ncb and Zero excess. Both of us are 31.

Not too bad for a Bristol City postcode I reckon.
