In the exciting world I live in, I helped my lad clean his Astra than I cleaned my neighbour's Vectra just because I felt like it.

You'd be better off getting somebody to MIG a nut onto the remains.

Would that work? There's not much room and I'd thought the heat from the mig would ignite the oil or am i being thick?. I can feel the remaining bolt is loose in the holeso it shouldn't take much to remove it, it's just gripping the bastard thing.

Drill a hole and use one of those fucked screw removing tools.

The left hand thread things.

The trouble with drilling is that you risk getting swarf into the sump. If it's loose in the sump I'd probably try drilling a small hole near the edge and knocking it round with a punch.

If it had happened while a garage was changing the oil I'm pretty sure they would deal with it by welding a nut on. A quick zap with a welder won't produce anything like enough heat to risk igniting the oil.

Fiesta

All Fords need to die in a massive raging bastard of a fire

Especially this fucking Fiesta I can't shift the crank pulley bolt on

I tried to help a mate do the cam belt on his 06 plate Fiesta zetec. Despite having masses of big sockets and breaker bars, scaffy poles and the like, we couldn't get the pulley bolt off either. Gave up in the end and sent it to the garage.

Not what I want to hear, Herr_Stones

I can't get my massive impact gun on it without using an extension bar which just absorbs most of the torque :(

Just spent £246.80 on brake disc's and park brake shoe's for the LS400. I did considered pads as well but I put a new set in around 3,000 miles ago & feel it'd be a waste of £80, here's hoping they aren't too worn.

For anyone caring, the front disc's are fancy grooved & dimpled EBC one's that should have cost £245 but I got for £164.

The rear's are mintex ones, and the park brake shoes are BluePrint (which are the same as the brake pads fitted)

All this as well as the rear caliper slider pins (genuine Lexus parts) I've been meaning to fit since June.

Trigger - if you can feel the sump bolt is loose, then dont drill it as you risk the drill gripping it and spinning it round, screwing it right into the sump.

If you can get some reverse drill bits, they would be ideal as you will unscrew it as you drill.

Or get a centre-punch and hammer and use the punch to tap the bolt round to unscrew it.

Alternatively, use a sharp chisel or a dremel and cut a groove in the end and unscrew with a flat screwdriver.

I cant see you having much luck glueing something on there due to oil everywhere and constantly dripping. Welding a bolt on will be fine safety-wise, but doesnt look like there is much room.

With the head gone the remains shouldnt be tight in the hole so I reckon it should come out easy enough.

It might be worth emptying the sump with a Pela pump first to make the job more pleasant.

I think the reverse drill bit is a good idea, I guess it would tighten it up if my idea was used, although I wouldn't drill all the way through due to swarf as mentioned.

Posted

It wouldn't tighten as there is no head on the bolt - it would just wind into the sump then disappear at the same time as the sump contents poured over your electric drill.

This morning we have an F40, Bugatti e110 and Countach! Bit of digging reveals they've been to Blenheim Salon Prive for the weekend.

I had the same trouble but a quick sharp couple of dads to the crank bolt with a large hammer then she came free, they are the same as the corsa as in bloody tight to stop the bottom pulley turning on crank.

Early Countachs are pretty, as are EB110s, especially in that Sierra Diesel blue colour. Ferraris, meh.

Pretty much come to the conclusion that this has to go to make room for the Rancho.

I know it sound's stupid, but I haven't had it out of the garage all summer. MOT booked for Thursday, only covered a few hundred miles since the last one.

I did that job on the '58 plate festering we used to have. Mrs Hooli stood hard on the brakes with the car in gear, then 4foot of hollow bar I've got slipped over the end of the T-piece socket driver popped it free.

If you haven't already got it, you can find the official manual online.

Just bought a 750mm long breaker bar and I have some old exhaust pipes kicking around so hopefully that'll work!

Shouldn't matter about being in gear etc because I've locked the flywheel

Posted

Ahh, you're doing that way. I just had to get the head off to replace some dropped valves.

I still think the F40 looks amazing but the F50 looks like Mitsuoka hypercar.

yes and no...

it was a mini-meet, social gathering that some of the forum members had organized themselves, but the club has been to the museum a number of times, usually once a year at least! and they are already thinking about having another meet there next year.

details get listed on the rover 75 club forum, which i guess you have to be registered to access, but as that can be done for free, its not a hardship?

Thanks, will keep an eye on the 75 forum.

After the disappointment of the Rover, I think there's a need in my life for MOAR CYLINDERS. I'm thinking a Lexus LS400 may do the job nicely. Now, can I find one for cheaps?

I'm in no particular rush. I don't have time for any capers until at least next week.

An LS400 would make a highly appropriate editorial waftmobile that's for sure. I bet that quad cam v8 make a sensational howl at full chat.

LS400 it is, or dare try a cheap LS430 if your feeling brave?
