Maybe the grumbling noise was the CV joint that fell to bits?

Wheel alignment won't help your wobble or shake I'm afraid ! What you need is a wheel balance. Loads of people seem to get them muddled

The steering wheel and gearstick in my X1/9 shook violently in mine one 60mph until I had the wheels aligned. Rather than toeing in the rears were toed out ( and not equally) and the fronts were both pointing off to one side. Once aligned on one of those laser things as above it's perfect now up to 95- at which point it becomes alarmingly light in the front with no luggage stowed!

But then again i don't know him or you.

One day he won't be there and you wont be able to shout dad.

Appreciate what you're saying but I have my reasons, and I'll leave it at that.

we've been out for the day today

post-18270-0-52695100-1473017805_thumb.jpg

to a Rover 75 meet at the Lakeland Motor Museum in the Mini....

well it built at Longbridge, like most Rover 75's were, the Rover 75 was also built on the same line as the Mini, after the Mini had finished.

and what a grand day, we've seen some friends, seen some great old cars and bike, and taken many pictures!

if you haven't been before, then go cos it is a really good day out with many interesting things on display!

For the love of god take the deal!

They are fantastic cars in every way, and that interior is just brilliant.

What was the car like? Rusty at all? I'd quite like it myself...

It looks alright.  Weirdly, if it was WHITE with the orange it'd look a million times better in my eyes.  One photo that I stalked on his facebook show the back of the rear seats faded through 31 years of 'greenhouse effect'.

It's about 80k on the clock.  Had some weldering last year according to the MOT history.  He's asking £1700 and I have no idea on values of these things.  It's a 2.4 auto which I imagine does about 24 gallons to the mile.

Can you put you in touch if you like

I'm fairly sure I've seen that car before somewhere, possibly ebay?

It does look a beauty, and that colour interior is rare. It'll be a 2.3 red block, probably carb fed at the age I seem to remember (C plate?) if it's the same one.

My old E reg GLE saloon was a 2.3 auto with K jet injection, it wasn't too bad on fuel really for a big heavy old car. Then again Im really not one for giving a shit about mpg!

I'm not sure it's worth £1700 tbh, these are yet to really take off classic wise but I've noticed since I sold my old one they are now getting harder to find.

I really really rate these cars very highly and I'd love another one. I don't know where I'd put it though and the money is needed elsewhere at the moment really. I really want it though!

Where is the car?

It's just occurred to me I've not seen an orange interior Volvo like that for three or four years.

Maybe I'm tight but I'd say the price ceiling for a saloon isn't much over a grand. Volvo saloons are largely seen as poor man's Volvo estates. I prefer a saloon, not least because they tend to be better preserved and cheaper, but I'm in the minority.

Definitely. I love the saloons, I had a 740 and 244 and loved them both. But they are never going to be worth as much as an estate. The old Volvo's ace card was always it's huge estates and without that it's just another big old saloon car, albeit better made and more reliable than most others!

All this Volvo talk isn't helping!

He has had it 3 months and will take £1500.

If I wanted it I'd counter him with a few cheaper comparables and see how keen he is to sell.

Did he say why he wants rid after only 3 months?

I'll be honest, I'd buy it for £1500! Just for that interior alone, I really do love it!

Do you know where the seller is located? The distance might be the killer for me at the moment.

Unless anyone here is local and would be willing to view it and buy it on my behalf!? If I payed obvs!

I really shouldn't even be considering this at the moment but sod it.

I should really as it's 15 minutes away and I pass it all the time, never been!

Most of this weekend's fettling was concentrated on the DAF, which has its own thread.

I did however finish undersealing the sills on the Rover of Doom today - next weekend I'll stick it up on the ramps and have a look underneath to make sure there aren't any split gaiters or dodgy brake pipes that I've missed, then it can be booked in for a test.

This afternoon Barmatt and Skattrd came round and we had a bit of a test drive session - we went out in the DAF, the 620ti and the CX, and I had a go in the ex-ShitpeasShitpeas Rover 25 GTI, which I rather enjoyed - straight line performance is pretty much identical to my 200 VI (not unexpected you might think as they're the same bodyshell and the same engine, but as my engine is slightly poorly I thought it might be a bit down on power compared to a fully fettled example), but the 25 feels noticeably more agile, and I think the steering is quicker too.  I had to top up the LHM in the CX as the light started flickering when Skattrd was driving it, but that's the first time I've topped up since the night before I left for Shitefest, so not too bad really.

This evening I went round to my mate's to have another bash at fitting the in-tank fuel pump to the MGF - it turned out to be just as awkward with two people trying it as with one - it was the rubber seal round the top which was causing the problems as it refused to seat in its hole properly, and trying to tap it in with a mallet put a hole in the (rather brittle) top cover which we then had to repair.  The repair still wasn't dry by the time it got dark so I didn't get to hear the car running, which I was slightly disappointed by.  I did however start the A35 (which once again started first pull despite not having run for about four months) and run that up to temperature - it still seems quite happy engine-wise.

Had my first go in a Honda HR-V this weekend as well - the same mate has just bought one and I drove it home for him.  I actually rather liked it - I've always quite liked the shape of them, but I found it really nice to drive as well, and surprisingly nippy for a non-VTEC 1.6-litre 4x4 - it'd definitely leave a Vitara or a Sportrak in the dust.  I want one now...

He didn't say - no.  I always like to spring that question on people face to face to ensure an honest answer/epic flap/stream of endless nonsense.  In fairness, I've sold a couple quickly this year for varying reasons.

He wants £1500 as is or a bit more with an MOT.  It still has about 2.5 months on it from memory.

I have his phone number if you want it.  Car, by the looks of FB, is in Dagenham.

Dagenham is a little way from me. I wonder if any of our Essex area members wouldn't mind looking at it on my behalf?

Money is tight this month and space for the car even tighter but I really want it!

I'll have a think about how I'm going to get it back here and see...

Love the Lakes, and 75s. Is this a yearly thing, would love to go next year.

In my insurance world a 1997 Rover 114GSi is more expensive to insure than a 2001 Rover 75 V6.

Now that makes perfect sense.

In todays news of senile insanity I am having the Bentley 'detailed'. It is raining but the car is in the garage so not too bad, it is costing more money than I expected and I am currently playing 'petrol light roulette' with the Kia 'cos I haven't got enough dosh left to put petrol in it!

I really do not understand how anyone can be so fucking stupid as me.

I utterly astound myself with my own ridiculous obsessions surrounding this bloody car. I get a 'Bee' in my bonnet about something and it has to be done, there is no question around how sensible it is or how much this is going to hurt the bank balance/credit card, just get it done. It's off for a service and MOT next Monday, you can bet that will hurt as well.

Feel free to tell me to 'grow the fuck up' or anything else appropriate.

Life is too short to drive a shit car! That's how I justify it to myself anyway.

she described it as 'nippy'

The auction estimates were a bit bloody eye watering were they not?  Also it looks like that Mercs suspension has gone down, hydraulic on those isn't it? But £900.000 for a 911... and an old one at that :)

Detailer has just finished, so just under 5 hours working in the garage, it looks lovely I must say, so lovely that, even though the sun is currently shining and the forecast is for clouds but not rain, the car is pushed back into its tight little spot and covered up rather than coming home. In a similar vein, I bought 5 big sheets from Animals in Distress for £2.50 to cover her up with!

Sides look like glass, which makes me happy.

The Kia is the polar opposite: filthy dirty, inside looks like two wet dogs have had a party in the back (which they have - many friends and too much to drink as well) and the back windows are opaque with slobber from fat dogs chops. I should be ashamed of it, but I am not! It is really liberating to have something I really don't give a shit about. Yet the Mazda which cost less, I am really precious about. I really don't understand this: there must be some logic to this somewhere... surely? Also, still playing petrol station roulette, and cambelt roulette and still booting it all over the place with gay abandon.

Must be a Kia thing :)
