Obviously, I'm scanning the Sanderos 'for sale'.....

I find about 16 16V 'old Clio engine' ones then 1 Turrbo 0.9TCe.

HowMany explains some of this....... 1300 0.9TCe against 7800 16V 1.2.

.... then again, praps they find the 16V a bit $hite..??

I just got weirded out whilst Replacing the fuel pipe on my saph, an ambulance driver stood at the end of my drive and said "hi mate are you Steven?" I replied yes I am, he then asked for the keys to someone's house down the road who I don't actually know, I explained this to him and he said well Margaret at number xx said to come to Steven at xx and get the key. He got both my name and house number correct, I've never heard of this lady and never had the key to her house and I'm wondering how she knows me. I'm bloody weirded out

It's time travel again. You don't know her yet, but when you do you'll look after the spare keys to her house. The ambulance man is about two years early

Well I made it out of Bethnal Green alive.  I even managed to not get hopelessly lost - pretty much unheard of for me in London.

Here is a shit photo of what I've bought.  It's a "fake" petrol station shot as the car came with nearly half a tank so I haven't had to put any in yet.

It's in what I'd call London condition - solid and relatively low mileage, but dented and with a high clutch biting point suggesting lots of time spent in traffic.

It drives well and covers ground nicely - I managed to lop 11 minutes off the satnav ETA despite having to extricate myself from central London on a Friday evening.  Close ratio 'box means it's slightly undergeared on the motorway though.  Performance is strange - pootling round at low revs it could be a 1.6S, but get to about 4,000 revs and it suddenly picks up its skirts and also develops a bit of a snarl - almost VTEC KICKED IN YO, although I don't think these engines have variable valve timing.  It doesn't feel quite as quick as the Rover, but then it only has 7 more horsepower for quite a lot more weight so that's understandable.

Handling is superb though.  It's very planted on the road and the steering is quite firm, which makes it feel quite a heavy car, but it can be slung into corners at what are quite silly speeds for a family hatchback and it just goes round with no fuss or understeer at all.  In fact if anything it feels like the back end might come round if you overcook it, although not in the sudden-oversteer manner of a 205 GTI or Perodua Kenari.

It's got a few issues, like aircon and stereo not working and ABS and airbag lights on, but it's tested for nearly 10 months so I don't need to worry about any of those things straight away.  Mileage is quite low for its age - in fact it rolled over 90K as I pulled into Norwich - so it should be mechanically quite strong.

I bought it primarily so I'd have something quick, cheap, fun and non-overheaty to use on track days, and initial impressions are that it should fulfil that role admirably.  It also has a massive boot and seems reasonably good on petrol so far, so it might even see a spot of daily duty.

I've read a few reviews and some say the 1.2 is fine but others say it's slow. 14+ seconds 0-60... I couldn't be bothered with that any more.

The TCe is a moar respectable 11.1.

Good thinking. Marham have already announced dates for September....

Replaced the duff rear foglight after water got into the cluster over winter, contacts now all cleaned up. Though I'm intrigued as the cap had 2 bayonets approximately 1/3 and 2/3 around, and just those 2, what's that about? Doesn't quite fit the slot, but it's in contact and works, so bodge bodged...

Oh and a sidelight. With no swearing, no misplaced screws or washers, and utter confidence. Getting the hang of this maintenance lark :-P

If the pins are in the wrong position then it's the wrong bulb!

There are some which have the pins at ten to two. Get yourself to a decent motor factors and get the right one.

Ironically I got it from the only locally owned factors left in this part of town. Old bulb looks ok, but with a bit of corrosion on it. Will clean that up and see if it'll work again, as the filament looks to be in 1 piece. Yes, it's the 10-2 type. Never knew they existed.

Fuck those bulbs - I have every type of bulb you could imagine in my workshop and got a Peugeot 407 in which uses those bastards!

I finished work yesterday (turning down overtime) and got to grips with moving the caravan into the drive seeing the British Gas van knob head who parked across the end of the drive had gone for the day.

I managed to with the help of next door to get the van on the new driveway, put the donor car in front of it.  Whilst about to move the Uno parked further down the street the woman who lives opposite had a go asking me not to park opposite her drive entrance.  I explained it was only because of the van parked in front of mine that they had been left overnight and would only be left on the street when I was moving vehicles about.

I moved everything on to the drive, left the maestro, panda and uno across the end of my drive, I even checked with my neighbour opposite that this wouldn't cause him a problem and he was fine with it.

Later on whilst levelling off the caravan a policeman appeared on my drive.  Very friendly asking about the cars.  I explained that I'd only left them there because of the van.  I got the impression that he had visited the street when I was collecting the caravan.  I apologised for the untaxed vehicle temporarily parked on the road he was fine about it though reminded me he could have had it towed.

He was very interested in the maestro and the pandas as he'd had both himself and was a pleasant sort and gave me a card should I have any bother with the neighbours.  He recommended that I actually park two wheels up on the kerb in front of my house to widen the road.  They remain on the street with all four (or 16) wheels on the road.

Not to be paranoid but there is a grass on the street (explains why the new panda got clamped), who doesn't like my cars.

I was reducing the fleet a little but feel like expanding and dropping random chod in what the end of the street seem to feel are "their" spaces which is infact public road.

I do hope the new owners of the house down the way make full use of "their" spaces on the road.

At least I can say my parking meets with police approval ;)

Anyone else with friendly neighbours down the street?

Had this a year now!  Wow thats gone quick!  Not much to report, it just needed a new battery recently, probably down to the lack of use. I bought it on 67k and its now on 69k. Its only done about 1800 miles.

I often receive comments about the car, usually from giffers commenting  "Nice Rover, Interesting colour"  but this morning an old couple caught me getting out the car in the local high street. We chatted Rovers for abit before I had to shoot off but the old boys comment  "I do like to stop and admire quality when I see it" made me smile, bless them! A really sweet old couple who tell me they own a Daimler.

Best rolls body kit?

Best in class apparently! Could be a class of Italian sports cars, as it was the only one. Actually it was 1980s, so did OK! the cortina was owned by a Sicilian gent my dad had a chat with.

Drove dads Nissan Leaf today . It's really nice , just drives like a normal auto/ cvt car . Pulls well I think too . Loads of equipment and toys .

Spooky how quiet it is but I think you couldn't put shit tyres on it without the road noise becoming annoying .

Locally, I keep seeing a gold BMW E28 525e auto owned by a couple in their 50s/60s, it has E34 M5 wheels and a bodykit on it. Bit rough around the edges appearance wise and MOT history says 140k and regular failed MOTs, but it always seems to get the work done to get it through another, and it's thinned out the last couple of years.

MOT runs out in August, needless to say I'm having silly ideas.

It's probably a bloody dog...

Started removing the 405 exhaust today, got the clamp bolts 'twixt front pipe and centre loose but not off, so had to get my son to help as nut and blots were turning either side. As I waited I was mucking about moving the pipe hoping to free it, then I found out why it was so noisy: the back box I thought I didn't need is knackered! That's going to have to be ordered this week coming.

Today marks a momentous day in the quest for a 7-seater.

What does £150 buy you nowadays?

This! A 1999 (one of the first) Zafira 1.6 16v 'Comfort' - no M.o.T but doesn't require a huge amount of stuff to pass, the main one being another catalytic converter. Other things are a handbrake cable, a lower balljoint and a coil spring. No kulekshun fred as it was a mile from home and I got it recovered to FATHA's. First job is to wash all the green shit off it and Hoover it out. Nice little project for me!

Ffs first fatha_quicksilvers, now this...

I don't hate them, £150 is a bargain, I remember my stepdad getting his v reg one spanners new, then an x, then the less nice newer shape

I went down to Pembrokeshire today in the Land Rover and came back in this

post-3477-0-50733700-1467484891_thumb.jpg

It drove really nicely on the way back, the only issue being an intermittent speedo, I think the cable is on its way or needs oiling as if you grabbed hold of it under the dash the speedo would come to life. I had the roof down all the way, mainly because it smells very musty in there and has mould on some of the trim.

Storage has not been kind to its appearance, the paint is falling off the aluminium headlamp pods and any stone chip now has a nice rust stain around it, I have had a little try with T cut and it does take the rust stains off ,so it won't look too bad, but it really does need paint before it really takes hold. The matt/satin black around the screen and quarterlights has really gone horrible, but that is an easy fix.

I really don't need this car and will sort out a for sale thread tomorrow also probably list it on eBay or Car and Classic. Junkman will be pleased to know that the interior lights and lighter socket work.

I'll have to go down in the week and bring the Land Rover back as that is now left at my sister's house.

How much are you looking for on it? How much work does it need? (A mate has been after one for a while).
Posted

How much, as much as I can get at the moment; no idea, but will have to have a look at what they're going for and try to price it fairly. I don't want to give it away, but on the other hand not going to be holding out for the last penny).

As to work, it would depend what you want to do with it. Structurally it is great, the cosmetics now let it down, when I put it away five years ago it looked one hell of a lot better than it does now, so it will need paint or lacquer over the chips to stop it getting worse and garaging to stop it rotting away. Underneath is superb, but if used in the winter would advise wax treatment (or whatever is good these days. Mechanically, I would replace the rest of the petrol hoses, just because of age. The hood is the original and good with no splits, a couple of the press studs need replacing and I think I may have some here. The interrior is pretty good, a bit of wear to the driver's seat base and the carpets have faded.

Before the MOT my brother fitted a new battery, stripped the brakes down, fitted new brake hose at the back, one new headlight as dipped beam had gone, don't think there was much else. It passed with no advisories and apparently the tester complimented its underside.

It's spent large chunks of its life not being used so it has survived remarkably well, but is not show standard.

If you press the brake lights on a Jeep Renegade, does it close the windows?
