Sat here working from home due to storm Eunice, desk is in the window, and driving past goes a Renault Wind… seems appropriate.

I've just been in the town's Cheap Shop. They've got everything useful eg paint, brushes, bolts, washers, buckets, plastic storage bins etc. You know the sort of place, heavily into vape stuff too.

Anyway I went in for some electrical plugs and was grateful they were open and had some, 75p each or summat, perfect.

Old boy walks in and shouts, "How much is your shoe polish?"

"One pound fifty" they replied.

"That's too much! Too much! It's ninety pence in Leamington you know."

"Better go to Leamington then" I said.

Miserable old bastard! Just comes in to moan about the prices. Which are very reasonable, and they're open Sundays. Unlike the old-timey hardware store opposite, which even shuts for lunch. lunch during the week.

Some people are just cunts.

You know things are bed when you are driving but are overtaken by an empty dorito bag.

In that first picture I can't see any rust free metal.

Right down to the jacking point is rotten, there's a ton of corrosion on the back end but looks like it's only on the drivers side.

Rear valance from drivers side to the middle is gone too, anywhere the seam sealer failed just fell to bits.

I repair a particular gear ECU for a truck, it's a lot of work and materials. We charge £880. They're £3500 new, or £400 for a 2nd hand one that's usually knackered.

Had one in the other day, tested it, confirmed it was fucked, phoned the guy with a quote "Yep, we can recondition it, it'll be ready in 3 days. £880 please"

"HOW MUCH? I can get a 2nd hand one for £400"

"OK then you'll have to do that instead, our prices are what they are and we think they're very good value, especially compared to a new unit with a warranty"

"But I've already bought three 2nd hand ones and none of them worked"

I liked this, but probably shouldn't as I'm paying the bill...

Belongs to @cort1977

It's a cracking motor with a couple of little issues but nothing that can't be fixed.

I really need to drop you a line, got a couple of jobs lined up which need your special set of skills.  Couple of bits on the Caddy and eventually swapping out the windscreen scuttle on the camper...though that's on the "sometime in the next few years" list.

They're both vehicles which I think are worth investigating a bit of time and money into (he says still not having had a proper crawl under the Caddy).  I'd rather have things done right rather than someone just throwing a bit of filler at it, hence why I'm looking your way!

I've just remembered I somehow need to procure this pylon paint you drowned the Tronda and Dolly in. You still getting cans of it?

Text my tame MoT tester last night to see which days he is testing currently (he only does two days a week). Friday and Saturday he says. “Grand I’ll call and book the 2CV in for next Friday then.”

”I do have a slot tomorrow at 9am”

So (as long as I can get it started as it hasn’t run in 3 months) looks like I’m taking the Deux for a test this morning!

Good news was I got it out, and running by 8.20. Checked everything over had a brief test run up the lane and declared myself happy to take it for test.

Best bit?

The man from the ministry has passed his seal of approval upon the faithful Deux Chevaux for another year!

I did offer to buy the three faulty ones off him for £125 each, but he said he would put them back on ebay and get his money back! 🤠

As a teacher, maybe you can explain something to me that I've never quite been able to understand (perhaps because I'm old).  How come the past participle of the verb "to text" is "text" rather than "texted"?

Is it? I'd say "I texted him last night", though "I sent a text to him last night" is probably better.

Gave up after 24hours with no power at home or work and decamped to oxford for the weekend. Checking alerts and my webcam is now back online, typical. Candlelit dinner for one last night too!

big tree down at home though.
