I remember doing chip shop surveys when I was a Scout (well, actually never did them until I was an Explorer) and somehow always ended up getting stuck with the Chinese that did frozen chips with no salt.

Sad to see the lorry that went off the overpass near Perth today. I drove that road nearly every day, and would have been on shift today if I was still on recovery.  Thoughts are with the drivers family.

People need to have a bit of respect and decorum. Pictures of it were all over Facebook just after it happened. 😔

1) Get replacement grill

2) Ignore it

3) Ignore it some more

4) Repeat 3 until the nagging gets too much or the car's about to be sold

Did it damage the number plate surround too? Or is it meant to look dented over the 4 to the M?

5) side track her by pinking up the outside

Na, it was "too salty" (I put the salt on) and too greasy and too dry. That was mostly it. One of them reminded me that last time we did it, the kebab shop chips won. They're horrible - frozen chips, like the chinese ones mentioned above.

But fuck me, they all turned up tonight. Even the ones we haven't seen since pre-covid. You mention food, and they're like flies round shit.

The most Scouts we've ever had in one night since I became Scout leader 12 years ago was 15. Tonight? 22.

People like (free) chips.

Those aren't chips. They're fries.😂

These are chips

Christ that's a nasty place for an off.  They get caught by the wind or something?  I drove by there yesterday evening and the van was getting chucked about a bit.

It's bloody scary driving over there even in a car on a really windy day.

The Volvo needs the footwell carpet and sound proofing removing in order to dry it, I've tried the fan heater method and it's just not enough. It currently has no coolant to try to prevent more leakage. I still need to source a heater control valve or Jerry rig something. Its just ram out of mot and it's now in Sorn until I can sort it out, no rush at the moment as we have winter coming and I'm not in a hurry to drive it on salty roads of i don't have to.

The Mondeo Hatchback is still being a pig.

The Estate is being fully reliable but is in for MOT so I've borrowed this delightful* Suzuki petrol auto thing from the 'rents

I'm doing the Mechanics badge with my Scouts tonight.  It covers things that sound easy but are an absolute pain in the aris on moderns like changing bulbs front and rear.  Luckily I have a nice Saab to demonstrate with.

All Vauxhalls being shit is not in the requirements but I will try to slip it in somewhere.

i like this. i might just have to suggest it to mini groovys scout leader and volunteer my assistance (and shite car).

I got the SD1's calipers back early August. However due to how I have been feeling I never even opened the box.

Bigg red have done an excellent job. The cost was very reasonable. The need fitting - I will have to make up four brake pipes - they have copper from the caliper to the flexi.

Glad to hear it! Although you're out of warranty now... :-P

I've been doing some little jobs on my two cars over the recent weeks, I've removed the twin K&Ns fitted to see if it helps with the cold running, apparently they go a bit quicker with the standard box on so I pulled it out the loft, knocked out a dent and get it a lick of paint and a new filter.

The results have now come in and I can comfirm that it's completely bollocks and the car drives exactly the same as it did before.

In other news I've fitted a new cambelt to the Golf and a 4 button GTi style steering wheel that I bought from a VW Auto jumble for £25 and then sunk a frankly ridiculous £500 into a new suspension for the car.

IMG_20211024_181903.thumb.jpg.981b0bec032ecedee8e7bc4a4f506b83.jpg

This £55 coilover set that was fitted in 2011 was more than set for the bin so that happily went in the bin and got replaced with a set of Bilstein B4 Shocks and Eibach springs which have transformed the ride, the camber took a bit of adjustment though.

It's probably hard to see but it had a spot of negative camber so wheels back off again the camber bolt fiddled with and now it's looking much better, I also fixed the dent in the front wing too, it's looking pretty smart now I think and miles different to the slammed scened car that it was!

A bit unsure about my lockup. The landlord has applied to do building works at the flats that it's behind, and the planning application says the garages will be used for storage during the six months it'll take to do the works.

Rang up today, no no no it won't affect the garages at all. Hmm.

Part of me thinks they won't want to lose the rental income from the lockups, and will just make do, and are only doing a nice plan to satisfy the council planners. On the other hand, it's a relatively small site and not sure there'll be much space for a cacaphony of contractors, deliveries, scaffolding etc.

Still, a bit worrying, as I'd really rather not have to hoik everything around again, plus the stress of finding a replacement suitable lockup etc.

You're worried? The gated yard where I have 3 lockups has had 3 planning apps since the Father died. Gawd help me if council give go-ahead for housing.

Fair point. The works themselves don't affect the garages, it's more whether they need to use them or demolish them to do the works. I suppose we'll see!

I must be getting to be an old fogey. I love seeing old cars get more original. On the subject of coil overs, getting rid of them is going to improve any car that uses McPherson struts and was built after the early 70s. Coil overs are just going back to the original design of strut circa 1950, which may give a good ride on large bumps, but stay rigid over small ones, because they haven't got enough force applied to them to overcome the friction between the piston rod and its seal in the strut body.

Got back from visiting the parents in sunny Skegness, a nice 260 mile round trip and the MG6 behaved perfectly for once!

It managed a decent 44mpg average over the tank, not bad for a lardy chinese saloon powered by a tarted up k series!

Nowadays, in Watford, this seems to be the safest place to park at Sainsbury's....

I once got 35mpg without really trying on a longish run from a R75/2.5 KV6 automatic.

Life has really been in the way over the last week or so. Been on a training course to be a driving assessor resulting in 3 twelve-hour days at work, passing of sis-in-law’s other half and having a generic cold-like lurgy has meant I’ve not had a chance to do the MoT jobs on the Binimini. It expires Tuesday and I was unable to get hold of my usual garage.

Hopefully I’ll get the droplinks done tomorrow and glue the tiny hole up in the CV boot. Then I’ll pack up and send off the bits and pieces I have put by for a few shiters.
