Ambled through @fatharris's BX thread and it turns out he was suffering from a random cut out thing similar to mine. Consequently I've added "change coil ignition module on the distributor" to the fix list.

I can't take credit for the diagnosis - there's a reason why@twosmoke300 is the man to look after my fleet when my fault diagnosis skills desert me

Yes, that was I.

Had a fuggin’ nightmare yesterday frankly.   One of those days where you really wish you’d stayed in bed! Took best part of two hours to get this on and strapped down. And today I’ve got to somehow get it off again...

Correct!

They’ve replaced it with a bigger one, I think.

Wet today, but a couple of nice cars about. 1956 Bentley, but not sure about the other one. Mot says lancia unknown 1938. Bentley looked like a big Alvis to me, until I saw the grill.

mini made  it home this evening,

the car is running lovely, since the carb was de-gunked and reassembled.

shame then that the weather today has taken a turn for the worst.

The closest match I can find is a Lancia Astura. I think this one has been rebodied into a limousine by a coachworks, but on an Astura chassis.

Sorry, it was in the truck when I saw and took the photo, then had to do some work* and next time I looked up it was into the hanger. I think both were only off the truck to allow the new mclaren longtail to get off. They were both reloaded soon after along with a black two door bmw ( no uk plate on this, but looked like a pre war bmw in rhd).

The wheelbase is long enough to be an Astura. None of Lancia's other cars of the period are a match for what you saw.

The hanger by the way is, according to a local farmer I spoke to some years ago in Lidl, where the London Goodyear blimp was kept in the 1980s.

Before all this COVID shenanigans kicked off I was looking for a small car. A teeny tiny engined car with a Bader box & A/C. There were a few about, they were all Japanese, all three pot & all either rotten at the back end of the sills or they'd had their sills patched up. Then lockdown occurred and the looking slowed and I thought that I'd really be much happier keeping the cheapest car I have ever owned. I've had this Scirocco for more than ten years, it's cost me just short of fuck all over that period, so I thought it was time to show it some love. The replacement £50 Weber was worn beyond redemption so I bought it a new one and then had a new cam/auxiliary belt and also the cam timing tweaked, the car tuned properly, the fuel lines renewed and the brakes rebuilt. Today I've changed something that's been pissing me off for a decade & something that folk can see.

Now to have a word with those nice chaps down at PD Gough about a new tailpipe...

After buying a new handbrake light switch from the Fiat dealer, as the handbrake light stopped working. Found out despite initial inspection and appearances, the wire had actually broke away from the connector plug and just fell out 🤣 Great as getting the switch out would of been a pain, because you can't get to the screw without removing the handbrake as there's no room for a screwdriver. So a trip to Fiat, and £15 for nothing.. oooooohhhwww! Still if anyone needs a brand new handbrake light switch for a Mk1 Fiat Punto or Fiat Barchetta... message me 👍

Had my Covid jag today, the AstraZeneca one.

Felt OK during the day but now I feel achy, skin is super sensitive and I'm generally buckled.

Hope my weekend isn't scuppered as I really wanted to swap the wheels out on the Cavalier.
