The K9 ran off a bottle. The seller showed me video of it going up through the gears etc. Chassis was sound but floors and doors were rotten.

Wish I'd bought it now. I would be ready to recover old citroens.

Shame on the doors as that paint is just perfect, £600 was still a damn good price though. Last one I saw was £1k with a ropey engine and that was years ago.

I spotted something weird on my wee trailer which turned out to be a crack in the drawbar where it bolts to the chassis rail. A quick scan underneath showed maybe half a dozen other cracks which I assume are due to age, stress and probably years of overloading.

I went for the non-autoshite solution of spunking an eye-watering amount of cash on a brand spanker.

Obviously I cant use this now in case i get it dirty and I am likely to cry the first time it gets dinged.

Orion > Ital.

Which in autoshite world means this :

Ital Van > Marina Van > Marina Car > MGB > Orion > Ital Car

I am hoping to make a truly ridiculous purchase on Thursday. I am so excited I can barely sleep.

EDIT - it does mean I'll be floating around the Sussex area with a beavertail on Friday if anyone needs 'owt shifting. This is a complicated caper!

I went to the Quantum kit car owners club track day today. Various shite including an Excel, BMW 2002, MGF and obvious Quantums. I will have a sift through my photos and see if they are thread worthy if there is any interest. Only phone cam though due to it being a spur of the moment thing.

Yes please mister

I visited FOADWERX to collect wheels that alcyonecorporation sold me and had a shot of not one but two 305s, the KNOBLESS VAN and the TD converted saloon, I think I've fallen in love with the saloon, plush seats and lots of shove from the turbo.

The van is rougher to drive than the saloon but the XUD is smoother and seems perkier than the engine in my VAG van, it's also much more comfortable. Thanks again for the test drives FOAD and I hope my girlfriend didn't create a leak by opening the W123's sunroof. She doesn't know old cars but she will learn. bf419da765ef9624c0f7a1871c629c5f.jpg

I haven't nipped into this thread for a few days, so have missed out on the Ital dilemma.

Although it would be a hell of a job to do, I would say to at least have a go at it. With the sentimental value and the fact that you could realistically make your money back on it if you later decided it wasn't for you, it does seem like something worth having a shot on.

However I understand where Mr Bollox and others are coming from. It looks fairly crispy in some places.

Any colour will do! My only current option is a red one in Germany for 250 euros, so that's not happening.

There is definitely a silver 626 in my local yard.

What kind of idiot sells a perfectly good and rather lovely Dolomite to buy a shit Ital Van with more rust than metal?.

Fixed the wipers on the Stilo this weekend - turned out to be easier than I thought.  Removing the entire wiper mechanism only took about half an hour, and a significant chunk of that was trying to persuade the wiper arms off the spindles so I could get the scuttle cover off.  The arm had indeed popped off the ball joint; popping it back on needed a harder push than I'd expected and it didn't seem particularly inclined to come off again, but it'd obviously come off once already so I fitted the retaining clip I'd bought anyway.

Haven't sorted the heater blower yet - I got as far as getting the plug off the blower motor and ascertaining that it is getting 12 volts, so the obvious assumption is that the motor has burned out.  Except that whilst reading up on Stilo blowers I discovered that they are switched on the earth side - there's a permanent live and then the earth goes into the climate control panel which then works its magic.  So I'm going to try Scotchlocking a bit of wire to the earth from the motor, touching that to an earth point and seeing if it brings the motor to life - that's a job for next weekend though.  I'm not holding my breath, but it's worth a go, especially since I'm struggling to find a replacement heater motor (there's dozens on t'Bay, but they're all for the base model, and with mine being a posh one with digital climate control the motor assembly is different).

I also noticed something I hadn't spotted before, which is that half of the offside front arch liner is MIA.  The problem with that is that the ECU is within the splash zone, so I'm going to have to replace it really before the roads get too shite.  It did make it easier to change the fog light bulb though mind.

Talking of bulb replacements, aren't headlight bulbs on C4s a fiddly twat to do?  Mine blew its offside dipped bulb last night, and I then realised that the main beam on that side was also not working, so I toddled off to Roy's of Wroxham and bought an emergency bulb kit containing H1 and H7 bulbs (worked out cheaper than buying two separate headlight bulbs on their own), but they were an absolute twat to fit and I managed to drop the old H1 bulb down into the guts of the light (I dropped the new H7 as well, but 5 minutes of fiddling about with a magnetic screwdriver finally got it close enough to the hole that I could squeeze two fingers in and ease it out).  Got there in the end though, then stuck the car up on ramps to have another go at sealing the centre-pipe-to-rear-silencer join, this time using a new clamp and proper Gun Gum rather than that shit exhaust assembly stuff.  In theory it should be ready for a test now, although it won't be going in next weekend as it's Kings Lynn auction on Saturday.

I also gave the CX a wash, took a few photos and stuck it up on Carandclassic - not holding my breath though as that site seems to have got a bit shite recently.

Your motoring-related follies are our concern !

And, occasionally, our fault.

Thanks for the info, PM sent.

In the meantime my cardboard/tarp/gaffer tape window bodge seems to be holding up well. Did a trip up to Worcester this weekend and it held firm at motorway speeds. My Dad even commented on what a tidy job I'd made of it (even if I was a tit for breaking it in the first place!).

Yep, having a morning rolly and it's very chilly. Heated seat this morning. I'm sure glad I replaced my thermostat before it turned cold! Oh wait....

Those heated seats are a god send on mornings like this

Don’t think the heaters on this coach work very well - it’s fucking Baltic!

I was looking out the window last night and this big black bloke was sitting in the middle of the street on a horse, he had some pointy metal hat on and was waving a sword about.

The knights are definitely getting darker.

a chance read of vulgalors rover thread i saw a comment by Anthony re: putting your actual name in for insurance quotes (they credit check etc) ive always put fake details in (name, email, phone etc) to avoid spam, and for say,a 1993 205,cheapest basic policy was always around £700-800,i blamed this on having no ncb (only really had classic polices, but now classic cars are out of reach, not possible anymore) just bunged my real name in and got a quick quote online of £300!

I might have a car soon, after a break of getting on for 3 years!

shopping,shoppingg! exciting!
