Dollywobbler's Invacar - Ongoing

Pretty sure the fan was there. Will look. One day. Not sure when I'll next get tinkering time.

Mostly because TWC T-shirts are now available! https://hubnut.org/buy-hubnut-merch/

Thanks to those who've already bought one.

Umm, Ian, you know that 'merch' is Welsh for 'girl', right? Not sure that advertising "Buy HubNut Merch!" with a picture of the lovely and youthful-looking MrsDollywobbler is entirely appropriate?

Especially considering where you live...

I'd like one if you can get a 3xl please!

I really enjoyed watching that - all credit to you and in such a short space of time. Hope TWC stays in your fleet,it's certainly earned its place...

I really don't want to sell her, but what the heck do I do with an Invacar? Another 380-mile round trip is not appealing!

yeah 100% get that, when I drive my Moke kit I don't half feel it. Most i've ever driven that though was about a 24 mile round trip and that was enough!!

How about filming a documentary taking the Invacar round previous recipients of them to record their feelings about getting a means of mobility and their recollections of them. It sounds like the sort of thing that the BBC would fund.....

40 years of motability this year too, so a celebration of progress seems fitting.

Autotest against a Metro with hand controls?

Pardon the pun but this idea definately has legs, hubnut gets a tad more serious. I've always fancied writing to previous owners of my cars for their recollections of ownership etc but this would take it to a more serious and poignant level

I’ve stopped watching the video just to announce that I NEED that Samba cabriolet you shot coming in.

The Avenger and Rancho would be good as well.

Video now being resumed.

Keep it, not sure how far the weekly shop shop is but they are great for supermarket parking.

In the disabled spaces?

That's really not necessary. In an Invacar, a normal parking space feels like a disabled one.

Also 70 years of the NHS, commemorate both with an Invacar trip down memory lane... it would make a great TV programme and also a book... capture the social history of the Invacar and the stories of the actual people who used/remember their family/friends using one, before they are no longer with us.

I think it's a great idea (although I admit it's easy to suggest someone else doing it!) as even I get nostalgic hearing the sound of the engine. Imagine how much more poignant it must feel if one of these was your lifeline for several years?

Final video from last weekend. Contains Field of Dreams action!

I'm very behind with youtubeage. I have at least this morning pre-ordered a TWC shirt for the next batch!

Popping to nearest shops for bread, milk, newspaper etc.? I appreciate in rural Cymru that may be a trek.

Invacar would make a good subject for an "electric classic" conversion project.

Possibly.

First off I think you need to find out how to change the belts, and give her a well earned service. She has done really well, seriously out of her 'comfort zone' of pottering to the shops. Once Zel has his on the road, you do need a proper vid of them together, with perhaps Elly or the Nippa as tracking car

Posted

I think you should do Lands end to John o Groates in it.

I think someone else should do that.

Posted

LE to JoG in it would make a great charity fund raising event. Just upgrade the seat first. Saab seats can be had cheap nowadays.

I think someone else should do that.

Just make anyone who suggests it do a days driving, all in the name of charity obviously.

I'll buck the trend and say if you can't see a use for it then move it on, its better for the car to go to someone who will use it more, as I feel it will be sitting unused a lot by you just down to the number of cars you have as Elly has for a while.

I'd go with that - what you've done is great and you've achieved your aim.  But it's not a long termer like Elly, and you're not an obvious candidate for someone about to start a collection to rival Schlumpf's.

Make a decent effort to get out some of the time / money you've invested into it and you can keep fuelling the 45v6 and buying more SMOLL cars with silly engines.
