I don't think it was their own work, but Isuzu's take over by GM was in 1971 and the TD series pre-dates this, so probabaly not a yank. However, it looks suspiciously like a Mitsubishi Fuso T800 (there are some differences (eg the wings)) ,and Isuzu had a joint venture with Mitsubishi in the '60's....  the interweb seems to be very short of info.

And as we know Daewoo were very much part of GM from 1972 (before then they were associated with Toyota). This one has the air of a mid 70's face lift about it. So was it a Korean built version of the Isuzu (the wing shapes suggests it is), Isuzu are now part of GM remember, based on the Mitsubishi Fuso T800, Mitsubishi now being associated with arch Korean rivals?

In the Top Gear Burma Special, Hammond and Clarkson both had these. They weren't sure what they'd bought because they had Isuzu badges on the bodywork and Mitsubishi on the running gear. There must be a lot of them still running all over Asia.

These do remind me a bit of the BMC WF series in appearance, much better built no doubt…

Currently cycling across France. Local registered Ford F-Max spotted earlier:

Also, trucks here are generally older than they are in the UK. Why? Seeing anything pre-eu5 in the UK is rarity today - in France they seem to still be going strong.

Talking about Bedford, I saw this in Cape Verde in February.

Apparently it’s gen - a marketing exercise.

Is that the same J. Davidson that deal in scrap? If so the whole truck fleet is ridiculously well turned out for the sector they work in.

We have had an addition to the circus fleet. Sorry @Cavcraft it's an Iveco but it does have a redeeming feature in that it was a truck for the Ferrari race team, and only has about 150 thou on it. No idea what was paid for it but it's got to be a sizable chunk. No Ferrari's found down the back of the seat unfortunately.

Turns out it's done less than 150 thou. 130 thou and from 2007 so only about 8 thou a year. Hardly run in. I believe another may be coming soon that is in better condition, which I find hard to believe as this one is immaculate.

Judging by the reliability of the Ferrari F1 nowadays I hope it was maintained by Iveco.

Sad news - an era is ending :( After 40 years Bob Carmichael is officially retiring and the man himself confirmed he's coming off the road at the end of July. The F88 is for sale - no idea how much he wants for it as even he doesn't seem to know what it's worth and is just saying "make me an offer" but he gave the impression it's likely to be a lot.

This needs an AS group-buy. I'll chuck in the P6 sale proceeds, that should get us part way there!!

awww sad to see things come to a close, I mean I knew it would happen eventually but its still sad! I do hope it does find a good home who will either preserve it as is, or better yet still keep using it :)

I am curious now, IIRC this was/is the oldest lorry that was still in regular service right? so I wonder what the next oldest lorry is now!

Yes I like this idea @Six-cylinderimagine if you got a suitably vintage car transporter trailer for it too, imagine how many Citroen Visas you could rescue with a quick trip to France! better still if you get it declared manufactured 1972 then you could even bring it into Central London! (commercial Vehicles built before the 1st of Jan 1973 are exempt from the LEZ charge)

(I mean its registered Feb 1973 so as it stands it would not be allowed in, but I have to ask what was the turn around time back then between a Lorry being built and it actually being registered? so I do wonder if it really is from 1972)

It depends how you define "regular service" really. A  number of showman vehicles are older than Carmichael's Volvo, for example some of the Carter's Steam Fair fleet:

https://www.carterssteamfair.co.uk/rides/

Also, one of my personal favourites - I'm not sure if it's in revenue earning service or whether it's a private vehicle that's liveried up as a fictious (but convincing) organisation - this Atkinson Borderer which also falls firmly into the "Do Not Paint" category.  A few months newer than the Volvo, but anyway:
