On the plus side dockyards generally have big cranes, the one next to it looks a bit small for that job.

That’s the Woolwich ferry so it wouldn’t be going to a dock yard.

Must have been driver error or brake failure, don’t think it gets rough enough on that part of the Thames to move lorries around.

An acquaintance of mine swore blind he pulled the legendary phone call off -

 "Boss, I'm gonna need a new nearside wing mirror."

 " Uh-huh, well head into the Volvo garage and I'll get one ordered. "

 "Better ask them for a crane too, it's gonna need lifted off the broken wing mirror before it can go to the garage..." 

I know he had pictures of said Volvo 'on her ribs' in a rural Highland field, but the rest of it, I'm not so sure. On the plus side, the boss is usually far away, but on the minus side, your car's still in the car park and you're standing in a field miles from anywhere.

I recall seeing Hillend Motors, Glasgow doing an inter BCA transfer of small cars, Ka, Siecento etc back in the days of peaks. He'd managed to cram 12 on!

Yes this VW bus story is pretty good another one that was also raised from a lake and is almost more impressive is a 1928 Scania truck that went through the ice on Swedish lake Fyken in 1936 while plowing snow.

It was raised 50 years later and restored and put on the road again. It still has the original drivetrain and much was still working like the tires and even the battery! It is on display at a museum in Torsby Sweden, I have been there myself and seen it.

The original body needed a lot of work so it was put on a wooden frame and preserved and the truck got a new one.

Completely restored.

And snow plowing on the same lake where it went through the ice.

Working on the M1 electronic technology a couple of nights back when the tarmc crew arrived to do their work. This has to be the most lights I have ever seen on a truck.

Still I guess anyone who says "didnt see you mate" are going to be found properly guilty.

Can't believe what I've just seen and it's a dream come true. The star of this thread, the legendary Bob Carmichael and his F88 on the road in my home town. It's just passed its 50th birthday and still going strong so Bob obviously hasn't retired yet.

It’s incredible that it’s still a working vehicle, must be the oldest still grafting commercial in the UK.

Yesterday and today I’ve been mostly grafting. This is a 4 axle (3 steer) bin lifter that carries dead animal carcasses etc. mmmmm lovely. Rear axle is kaput after the disk shattered taking the caliper carrier out.

that’s fitted. Now doing a centre bearing, got my favourite tool out.

It was definitely a gruelling 36 hours. Axle, centre bearing, rear steer ram, lower coolant hose, 6x injector seals. Bleeding the steering ram took some patience as all 3 steered axles have to be off the ground but we only have two pit jacks! Luckily I found some dodgy bottle jacks for the rear.

This is the prototype LIAZ 100, badged up as a Skoda (LIAZ  was made a divison of Skoda when they were both nationalised in 1951). The LIAZ 100 series became one of the most popular east European HGV lines and were built from 1974 to 1994.
