My mate has plates on his van and car ending XXX.

Love those on Pimlico Plumbers vans. 80 GS I like, as well as 51 NKS and T1 LER amongst many

As I came off the slip road on the M4 earlier I passed what appeared to have been a TPAC, several blue lighted police cars had pulled a black 4x4, I think it was an X5. The plate on it read Boosted. I assumed it was really BO05TED, but this does not come up on DVLA

Wonder if their name is Yasmin or Jasmine and the last name is Ford

Surely the Ford part is the make of the car?

Not exactly great plates

somebody I know has a bog standard car with a bog standard plate , I hadn't seen them for a bit , was chatting when I got the nod, what do you think of the private plate

it was say ( changed to protect the innocent) DR12 DPR

their car was a 12 plate as I remember them buying it

er, isn't that the plate it came with

no we've changed it

The puzzled look on my face meant it needed explaining

Yeah, you see a lot with repeated letters like that.

Either an extra letter in the middle like Dave and Pauline have done, or the same letter at the end

Fred Bloggs and Judith Anne Bloggs might have FB12JAB for example.

Giveaway is plates starting with J, they were never issued locally post-2001. All of them are vanity plates.

Fascinating* fact. Anything with the same letter at the end of both groups is a Select (vanity) plate. This for instance looks ordinary enough but where SB02 DWA and SB02 DWC are normal issues (both MG ZTs incidentally), SB02 DWB is a Select plate someone actually paid good money for. Personally I think this type of plate is a bit crap and it's difficult to work out what they're supposed to mean. It clearly didn't mean much to the first owner either as they sold the truck with the plate still on.

Probably the initials of the original company, Eve Trakway used to have EVE plates on their wagons, I thought that looked alright.

777 Demolition have a few 777 plates running about on company and family vehicles

I had a bizarre run of plates for a while; I bought a rotten 760 Turbo (E33 XGD), ran it for a bit then retained the plate when I scrapped it as it was a local issue, double digit plate. Subsequently I ended up buying a 740 Turbo registered E29 XGA which I still own, and the most recent 850 arrived as E101 UNS which appears was originally on a 740GL.

Currently got nothing to put E33 XGD on either.

My in-laws have one of these select plates. SB06wgb or something. They buy a new car every couple of years on a private lease and transfer the plate, thus making each car look older than it is.

Totally non-descript plate that even my wife didn't notice the significance of the initials.

I toyed with the idea of getting a really normal insignificant modern plate for my 88 van.

Would that then be inverted snobbery ?

A 1988 van?

You can't put a plate on that makes it appear newer, you'd have to put the same age marker or older on.

Boxing day I was passed by I GAS

Not sure if the driver was a public speaker or had too many brussels sprouts

I saw N88 ROT on a vauxhall insignia yesterday with some crafty screw caps to make it NOB ROT. Honestly can’t understand why anyone would want that on their car

This was an odd one outside the Chinese last night. S1TES, which is both localish and very specific. Sites. Ok. And yet it left me strangely unsatisfied: what kind of sites? Why? It's not like it was an off road type four by, with beacons and mud up to the sills. It's like it's taunting me that I can't guess what's going on there!

Someone out there owns SK12 ZER - a plate that should really belong to AS's very own "skizzer"

Going on to the A1 today North of the M11 there was a Jag XF in the inside lane going fairly slowly. Reg number was spaced C F06ATY. Saw that the driver wasn't Carl.

Skizzer used to have a Skoda Yeti with SK10ODA on it.
