'Load of crap/hateful/every one should be scrapped/you'll never see me in one'

We had a Ka when it was 3 years old, it was a great car, it was showing signs of imminent oxidisation at 5 years old so it got moved on, it was faultless and got thrashed every day.

I wouldn't dream of buying one now.

will the seats fit in an MX5 ?

Posted

I've got some Ka bits going cheep - wing mirrors, glass, headlights other odds and ends - let me know if you need anything!

(Not a rear bumper, alas)

The seats will actaully fit in a Morris Minor fairly easily. If you scrap it save the interior if you can be arsed!

Absolutely gopping......

Well played. LEVVER SEETS worth a few quid to Ka/Fiesta fanciers..

First gen Ka have genuinely disappeared round these parts and all we are left with now is the difficult second album.

Those vinyl seats look epic.

Not planning on keeping it, that's for sure. However I expect if my daughter sees it, she'll be after it. The body is actually pretty good for one of these hateful things, the problem it does have (besides rear bumper) is that it's losing water from the inlet manifold.

Not saying it's a common problem, but Google search took over before I'd finished typing :)

My wife had one. I loved it, closest thing to a classic mini and what rover/ bmw should have made instead of the cows arse of a bini that they spawned instead.

My stepdaughter had one.  I parked it once for her.  Bloody hell was it tiny!  I fit better in a rear-engined Fiat 500!  Best thing about hers was the number plate, A12 LBM, which I always said meant "Loved By Millions..."

The worlds first biodegradable car. Sadly Ford did'nt realise it would be returning to earth within minutes of leaving the production line.

My gran has one... She loves it!

Wasn't rusty last time I looked either!!

My parents owned one for fifteen years. Of course, it was mostly made from Zintek by the end.

Theirs waz mega povvo spec, non PAS. Probably helped its longevity.

I drove quite a few of these when they first launched, and can honestly say they are great fun. I reckon once all the rusty ones (most of them) have gone, Ford tax will kick in on these. 20 years hence, there will be Ka V5s on Ebay.

I agree - not many will survive either.

Car Mechanics magazine restored a ~2007 one and it needed a horrific amount of welding

If you were going to do a study of how far car manufacturers can pare down production costs the Ka is a good place to start. Good for Ford's accountants, not great for the poor sod chasing the rot for the rest of the prematurely crusty heap's life. Shame really, as they're great cars otherwise.

Whatever you do, don't remove the rear plastic wheelarch/bumper panels. Nothing good can ever lurk under there.

My brother in laws one was rust free. He did roll it in 1999 and it got cat B, but still.

Fixed.

apart from the rust, these are i think a great car.

i used to get one as a courtesy car when i had the focus company car.

interesting, clever design with many nice little touches, snickerty gearbox and a willing, old fashioned engine.

ok, so its was no road rocket, and the seats are less comfortable than a park bench but they were a cheap car, and in character very similar to a real mini.

these will be selling for a fortune in 10 years time, if you can find a good one.

So, it's not all bad news then?

My wife had one briefly when she started learning to drive. I loved thrashing about in it but the state of passenger side sill was scary stuff. Punted it on before the MOT ran out.

Amazingly it has seen two MOT's since then, but looking at the sheets it was majorly bodged.

At least these rusting away and cheap scrap combined should give plenty of apprentice mechanics free/cheap welding practice.

I must admit I find myself attracted to both sport and street ka.

If they can find anything left to weld to, that is.
