I look forward to trying out the column gear change in time, just sitting in the car and shifting it about it seems intuitive enough, its just your standard H pattern type affair coming out of the side of the steering column

and many thanks to @mat_the_cat for bringing me a nice 1980's vintage 5ft Fitzgerald light pack complete with original Philips made Fitzgerald branded T12 tube :)

have to say I loved the surrealism of just a old fluorescent fixture being lit up in the middle of nowhere field at 1AM in the morning :) (something id love to do using REV in time)

(and many thanks to @beko1987 for the tin of old Hoover bulbs, I look forward to going through those once I have recovered :)

and it was interesting to see how the fog-lights on @Andyrew's  Allegro actually have "Allegro" moulded into them I figured they would of just been an off the shelf/parts bin lucas/BL item

IMG_0555.thumb.JPG.96ee895f7b09164f8da7779bf996aecf.JPG

Your welcome on the bulbs! Be interesting to see what you write about them, I'll post it up in the vacuum groups when you do the autopsy! Some have the filament broken but some didn't and I'm sure there's some gen hoover ones in there. Came in a big box of shit from another collector which is always fun!

I hope I wiped all the bird shit off the tin...

I have to thank everybody for last weekend and the progress made on the Saab 95, Peugeot 404, Carltons and Herald 1200 Coupe.

I have now booked an Auto sparks for the Peugeot 404 to finish the electrics on the 13th June. Then I need to do a bit more to tidy the appearance and at least paint it in primer before I drive it on the road.

The Carlton I have ordered a set of Torx bits as I can't find mine to get the head off.

The Herald will progress when we have time

I would like to get the Saab 95 engine started. I believe we just need to fit:

·         Radiator and hoses

·         Fit new clutch master cylinder

·         Power to the dizzy

·         Fuel lines

Anybody able to help me for evening or weekend?

On the subject of painting the 404, we've just finished rollering a first coat onto our camper, if you are looking for a functional rather than concours finish would recommend (using rustoleum thinned down with white spirit..

(Colour choice optional)

@Floatylight that looks alright on my tiny phone screen 😅 what’s the finish like in person? Roughly how many litres did you use out of curiosity, and what ratio of thinner? I’ve been considering painting my really rough BX with a roller…

Can’t do anything for a few weekends - Italian breakfast on Saturday in Alton and babysitting the weekend after.

It's pretty passable to be honest, I think another coat will do it, will flat it back before putting another coat on. Following this guys method

4:1 ratio, used  about 800ml of paint so far.

I painted my acadiane with rustoleum, but I sprayed it. I used rustoleum thinners rather than white spirit. It's the second vehicle I have painted - the first was my orange 2cv which was rollered with white spirit thinned rustoleum. I would prefer to use the correct thinners, it's not that much difference in cost.

A bit more Carlton 2.0i estate work tonight, @ianbmw came round and he took the head of the Carlton. Unfortunately the bores were full of water and engine is locked even with the head off. We have filled the bores with oil and will wait a couple of days to see if that helps.

You know an ls fits in those :D

apparently so does a BMW V12 according to @ianbmw :) that would make for a fun estate car sleeper! (especially if you put some standard steelies back on it)

or at least mates up to the gearbox? or maybe that was said sarcastically and I completely missed it LOL

but I was looking at that engine bay and said "that inline 4 looks a bit lost in there" to which i was told yeah its designed for an inline 6, so my immediate thought was, of course, can you put a V12 in there then? LOL

Today the C15 got a quick wash before I used it to collect a garden table. It looks better but needs a proper clean and polish and bearing in mind the other projects on the go is somewhere near the bottom of the list. Also with Diesel down to £1.44 tempted me to put 40 Ltr in and fill the tank.

The interior was hovered out last weekend expertly by Charlie, @beko1987son, if only he was bigger we could have set him on the outside as well!

I went back to the FoD to swap back into the Fiat but the MX5 winked at me in the sunshine, unfortunately I did not have the key with me.

I plan to spend some time at the FoD tomorrow working on the Peugeot 404 if any body wants to help me or just pop in to say high.

speaking of the 404, :)  I just showed the sticker that was on the door edge to a good friend of mine from the Netherlands, and he confirmed it is indeed a sticker from a dutch MOT

IMG_0517.thumb.JPG.e96f9a23a5b954760eb03423befca03f.JPG

we think its an expiry of 11th of the 4th Y2K, he said the Phone number is still valid, and thats "it's a car garage in the province of Friesland, the province west to Groningen, Seems like they are primarily a Peugeot place, so that explains the lion then"

I wonder if it might be worth giving them a call and seeing if they remember the 404, and consequently if they know where it might of come from? chase it all the way back up the line so to speak :)  I mean it was imported into the Netherlands in 1996, so its not out of the realm of possibility that in the year 2000 it was still with the person who imported it

Phone code says it is in Heerenveen, but I can't find a garage with that tel number.

Today was another game of car Tetris played with the super star @Slowsilver

I needed the BMW 330Ci for tomorrow, Maserati BiTurbo for Wednesday, MGB GT for Thursday, Citroen DS and Ami for Friday. Also There are plans to get the Cadillac MOTed and back running so that was woken up from the back of the storage shed. The battery I took along was too large to fit in position but we got in started with it loosely in there. It drove well on the farm road, but the electric fan did not cut in when showing 106° C so that needs investigating.

That’s a really good question we have around 30 cars that are legal and work.

Let’s eliminate some to get a short list. Any cars not capable of high 20s mpg are out. Metro and Visa Twin are out for having 4 gears. Citroen AX, Trevi and Gamma are out because I don’t trust them. C15 is out because it is slow and a bit cramped. MX5 is out because while it is comfy when I am in getting in and out is difficult, Mercedes 200TE because not as good as a 320, Citroen GS because it is stuffy on a warm day, BMW 330Ci because Mrs6C would not like it piling on 500+ miles, Fiat Seicento because it is my daily.

That leaves only!

·         Alfa 156 V6 Sports Wagon

·         Citroen Ami 8 Break

·         Citroen BX GTi

·         Citroen DS Super

·         Citroen XM 2.0 16v Auto

·         Citroen ZX TD Estate

·         Citroen Visa 17RD

·         Citroen Xantia Activa

·         MGB GT

·         Maserati 425 BiTurbo Saloon

·         Mercedes E320 Coupe

·         Triumph Toledo

·         Triumph Vitesse

·         Volvo V70 T5

Xantia Activa strikes the best balance between shite, noteworthy and long-distance journey.

Otherwise, BX GTI, which is a bit too cool to be shite, or the E320, which is far too nice for shite but a wonderful mile-eater.

What sort of MPG does the Massey Ferguson get?

Oil or diesel?
