well this morning was spent collecting a lovely cavalier 1.8 expression, this is a heart warming tale of a shiter who managed to almost get the car that scumbags set fire to at the top of his drive, read on and you will understand

the story started this week when i got a text from sutty2006 with a link to an ebay auction to a grey cavalier expression, knowing the sad story of the grey cavalier expression that got given to him by his nan and thieves tried to steal but when they couldnt get it running because of the security, they set fire to it, i got quite excited then looking at the reg it looked rather familiar, we spoke about the reg which is N468 POD the cav that got burnt was N469 POD, bugger me with a big stick the lad has been gutted about the burnt one for years, so i offered my services as we are collecting wing men for each other.

heres the cav that got burnt, sutty has more of these horrifying pictures, sorry its on its side photo fuckit wont rotate it

You've just won everything.

Fantastic! You could be mistaken for thinking that it was the same car. I really rate those Cavalier, I'd happily sell my Merc for one (Middle management doing it wrong)

That is sweet. I am jealous. Excellent purchase, well done that man.

What a happy ending.

Hopefully he enjoys better luck with this one - should do, these days.

I didn't even realise the Expression versions went on that late. I seem to remember them as a sort of run out of the pre-facelift ones, and most appeared to be in that metallic blue-ish colour. I had three altogether I think, the last was one I shamelessly weighed in.

I think they brought the Expression back again as a runout model for the whole range in 1995. My aunt had one, N309BSC, in that purple/blue colour they did. Nice car.

That pic of Wolves: literally a minute away from the current chez Ghosty!

*Not open to visitors due to it being uni halls, but I do have tea.

My Nan bought N469 POD from 6months old, previous owner was europecar (hire company). When Grandad couldnt get in and out much anymore she needed something better, and bought a Shitroen Picarseo. As a Child, I had spent many a happy years travelling around in nans Cavalier, including half term trips to the Caravan at Talacre Beech, north Wales. When she got rid, I requested that I have it..... because it was mint. It was kept in my parents garage where on a regular basis, was brought out and valeted/detailed by myself. There was more polish on it than I could ever imagine.

In 2005 When I passed my test, the Cav was too much to insure (obviously) so I bought a fiesta to work on my NCB. Mum and dad needed a second car so the Cav came into use, but I still kept it clean and tidy. This cav Still smelt new inside. In 2006 there was a spate of arson going on in my town. Especially in the rough areas, but we lived on a nice, fairly new estate full of people that are too busy to talk to each other. Well, the Cav got it. They bent the drivers door over and set the poor thing on fire. I was devastated, but in time, moved on.

Now, I was browsing eVilbay on wednesday of last week for cheep winter hacks with a budget of 600 gold coins. When I searched for mk3 cavs, This one popped up. It had been on for about 3 hours, as the previous day it wasnt there. N468 POD, the exact same model and colour was up for sale. I emailed the owner who rang me the same evening. The rest is history. We picked it up today and all the memories have come flooding back. My family cant believe I have found the exact same model and colour car, that is ONE number down on the reg...... And the first owner was also Europecar. I had a tear in my eye when I drove it home, 50/50 sadness and happiness. The sounds, the smell the looks, everything about this car reminds me of "back in the day" when I spent time with my nan and grandad.

This ones for you Nan. Hope you like it. RIP.

Over and out.

picks of de-pogweasel to come.

I think this has definitely gone to the right person. Good luck with it, it looks very tidy.

MOAR CAVALIERS ON AUTOSHITE.

Cavaliers are for life's winners. Bulletproof, economical, nice to drive and worth zero. Ultimate shite.

Posted

Brilliant! Presumably with consecutive numbers they were originally both on the same hire fleet.

Around this time my dad had contract hire cars with his job and we had a string of cavalier ls's, then expressions, which I preferred because of those bbs-esque alloys

Great story

Blimey, what are the odds of that eh? Get yourself a Euromillions ticket

Shamefully I have no pictures Pre-fire damage. I had one, but I can't find it for shit. N469 was torched at the top of my parents house driveway. I could feel the heat from my bedroom window at the front of the house. :(

Nigel Hawthorne and John Wotsisname in the advert:

TAKE YOUR SILLY FACE OF THAT EXPRESSION!!

Top purchasing.

wheres the dislike button for the fire damaged pics  :-(

So. N468 POD went for a bath straight away, which is right next to where I work. Carwashguy#1 came over on a curtainsider I recon....

Still needs a good de-pog on the exterior, green slimey stuff inbetween seals and windows etc..

pod22_zps9d0dff6c.jpg

Genuine 59k on the de-pogged dash, Man this interior was dirty. Instead of being cleaned, its been sprayed with "dash shine" which has left a thick greasy horrible mess everywhere.... so much so that Im going to do it again this week.

And there she sits. Home safe and sound, ive even evicted the Mondeo from its usual space on my enormous driveway....... pride in place :)

Im beginning to wonder if that N/S/F door has been painted at some point in time.

Not even been polished yet :)

Love this story. Top marks buddy.

Slightly surprised though that A. Despite having alloys, central locking, electric front windows and a sunroof that there Expression didn't get a rev counter and that B. Being a run out model it didn't come loaded with extra stuff from higher spec versions like the mk3 Astra run out models did.

Posted

Hendry. Doesn't your point A contradict point B? Revcounter aside that is.

Posted

I thought this. Maybe what was left in the factory at the end. Put too many extras on the last run of cars would have maybe steered people away from buying the vectra.

The best description is Parts bin cars, it looks as if there is an immigrant in the drivers seat in the carwash pic haha

Posted

Well I found the picture of N469 i was looking for.

I recon 2004/2005 ish. This would have been back when the first car was merely looked after and pampered. The large black line on the rear quarter is actually a photofail (old technology n all that)

Need the mirrrors colour coding now.

Wish you all the best with your Cavalier. Great to be able to right such a terrible injustice. Saw this on Ebay myself and thought it looked a clean Cav.

Went to Derby last week to collect some 4x4 alloys for a friend so popped into Albert Looms scrapyard. Ended up get some Fiat Uno parts by pure luck and as I was leaving after 3 hours a Cav expression was brought in.

Checked it over but was pretty tired so didn't get anything off it myself but the speedo reading was a mere 269,000!

Thought I was doing well in mine after 220,000 on it's replacement engine. Though my Car actually only done 196,000.   :-)

Cheers dude.

Slowly getting a list together of the parts I need.

- Radio ariel.

- Ignition barrel rubber cover

- Rear centre console ash tray

- sunvisor clip

and others but gives me an excuse to go scrapyard hunting now :)

If you get stuck I might have a few of those parts stashed away. The ariel still available from Vauxhall as some kind sole snapped mine off about 18 mths ago but think they wanted £40ish so got one from Halfords when they sold them all off. They still turn up on ebay regular. Im sure the visor clips are the same as Corsa B and Astra MK3 too as they all prone to breaking.

Vauxhall are still worth a try for bits though managed to get some odds and ends off them for reasonable money. Like various clips / trim and some Vaux mats recently as well.

Great story Sutty. Little bit of a contrast to mine sadly where I've tried twice and failec to purchase an 86/87 D-plate Sterling.

Keep us up to date with this car. It'll certainly be interesting to watch.
