Some new arrivals over the last week.

First up, these three customs.

A search in a few local Home Bargains looking for a Golden Gasser only yielded a couple of Chevies.

As I'd been watching the race highlights from Daytona last week a Circle Tracker was picked up on Tuesday from The Entertainer, along with a Honda CR-X and a Range Rover Velar.

Much excitement.  Got these two boxed sets of colour changers that both seem to have originated in Japan, because I really love Beetles.

The Sting Rod was only ever released once, in this colour, in this set. I had to pay £5 for a loose tatty one at a show a few years ago so I wasn't letting this one, or the Baja Bug, escape.

Started on the Peugeot 604 restoration, although littlun has kinda claimed it, so not sure he will let me glue the bonnet on. Made the bonnet from an old plastic scraper, as the material is easy to work with...

Are you having the bonnet permanently closed?

Probably, I'm not clever enough to make it open.

Fair enough, easiest option. There's a few vids on YouTube about creating opening bonnets for Hot Wheels using a paperclip hinge, might not be so easy on a casting that already had one though

Not a massive amount of hot diecast action at this morning's market I'm afraid; though a few interesting items nonetheless...

20200221_085209.thumb.jpg.171b9d813a284dc8ff5024b55a59e4ac.jpg

20200221_085707.thumb.jpg.a1e13691c8586632034fd715d2c69e26.jpg

£20 sought on the Corgi Batmobile; £25 on a restored (but now chipped again) Spot On Cresta PA. Tenner on the Corgi army ambulance Bedford CA.

More older stuff up top:

20200221_085242.thumb.jpg.0a07eaf28a30b2e969a1207fad335825.jpg

A general gesticulation of "ten pounds each" was waved over this lot - fairly clean Corgi Commer vans (with extra interchangeable backs) possibly worth that, as is the decent Lesney King Size KW Dart Dump Truck.

Chipped smaller Lesneys (though the Bedford tipper does have most of its box), a Corgi Rice horse box with no drawbar, and a weird warped rubber 1940s touring car thing possibly not.

20200221_085217.thumb.jpg.19dc7380da714b0e026d9c7cee6bced8.jpg

Mostly unboxed Oxfords here, with a smattering of Days Gone and Models of Yesteryear mixed in.

No Austin K8s for @eddyramrod, annoyingly - I was hopeful there might be a 1/43 example mixed in there. But the search continues.

Oxfords are mostly annual Platinum Member issues and Christmas releases between 2012 and 2019; although undoubtedly less common than the standard editions, they also interest me a great deal less than either plain or real-life livery versions... and I know I'm too lazy to ever repaint them, much as I like the Commer step-thru and Sherpa castings.

20200221_085224.thumb.jpg.931458f99aa80e17485f0af3b0f6555e.jpg

Assorted unboxed buses too: OOC Bedford Val; EFE Burlington Seagull. The plastic green and white item is a Saviem by EKO, I think; cream double-deck in front is a Wiking HO scale jobber, possibly a MAN.

All priced at £4 each.

20200221_085230.thumb.jpg.0e41bd229daee66e5d9548a60d9aa6b8.jpg

N-gauge buses and trams too - Oxford diecast items (surprisingly heavy!) and plastic unnamed items, such as the Leyland Atlantean. £3 each on these.

Overall, I get the feeling this has been someone's sideboard collection - and has arrived in here as part of a house clearance... no doubt the carefully stored boxes in the attic have been binned... ah now.

Simply huge Tri-ang Circus truck was also on the stall (easily two feet long)...

20200221_085633.thumb.jpg.27ead9175c98f22de0f7c8a7642791b0.jpg

And these boxed 1/18 moderns too.

20200221_090557.thumb.jpg.70e9dc190054686caf5644cfeae3fc90.jpg

More planes and stuff were in evidence...

20200221_090500.thumb.jpg.66f053cd001432464591762b93287933.jpg

20200221_090454.thumb.jpg.91d5e4dc4f0960e6b1f8d19e649e5e34.jpg

20200221_090438.thumb.jpg.b12d2d3550096d8a0efb5f09d32129c0.jpg

Not my thing, really.

No tat box today, sadly - maybe next week.

A quick spin round the other stalls revealed little of note, though there were these down Giffer Alley:

20200221_090742.thumb.jpg.8358c41a3b0b6749e0b384fa4dcea37f.jpg

Morestone Austin FX3 taxi; late-era Marx Jaguar E-type; Lesney Rolls-Royce and APC.

No prices stated, and no-one around to ask...

I meant to pick up that 1969 Corgi Catalogue on the tat stall but forgot... daaaaah.

Ah well.

I did grab this for myself, though: a BMC Service Training Unit vehicle, by Oxford Diecast.

20200221_092205.thumb.jpg.c802a099acb94767446bd9b610b30946.jpg

No fold-down tailgate like the Mini Transporter, though...

20200221_091943.thumb.jpg.e9759c33b95f61ee8c92aefdad9ad773.jpg

...and I also nabbed this unboxed OOC Kenzies of Cambridge Bedford Val for @RoadworkUK, to accompany the previously acquired Yelloways Plaxton Paramount - if it's still required?

20200221_091901.thumb.jpg.04db4a6d4c18b179cd03d80ad8f16d11.jpg

20200221_091923.thumb.jpg.caee1b540b154929ba44ad552f4a8fce.jpg

Annoyingly, I just missed out on scooping a £3 boxed example of this for him before Christmas - but if not needed at £4, I'm happy enough to keep this myself.

The working quad steering function is very satisfying, even if there's a load of Blu-tack gunking it up where the former owner presumably tried to wedge the wheels at an angle, for display.

So there we go... a better stall this week if you like buses, and I may well hop back over at 12 to see if that Corgi catalogue's still there... so if there's anything else there that appeals, do sing out before then!

Should probably tie up the loose ends from Saturday's Tat Odyssey and all...

So yes, there was something of an issue with the shop in Whitehead - namely a set of missing shop keys, which necessitated the owners returning home (to a different town) to find them.

Now in fairness, yer man did send me a message after 10am to advise that they were running behind, and that it might be best if I waited until 11.30 before calling over.

The message notification arrived early on Sunday morning. Nice one, Farcebook Messenger.

As it happened, it was just gone 11.30 when I swung past again and noticed the lights were now on, even though the closed sign was still showing.

I gave the door a rattle anyway, and it was open.

Now, y'know the way there's sometimes a bit of an atmosphere when you enter a room?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I kinda wondered whether I'd just interrupted something of a 'discussion' involving the missing keys, the knock-on effects of such, and quite possibly a number of other unrelated domestic matters, historical and otherwise, being aired.

The joys of working with your other half, hey? I've done it; I don't recommend it. Possibly I'm projecting here.

So, mildly uncomfortably, I collected the items I'd asked to be set aside...

And, as mentioned, there were indeed a few surprises - my opinion was asked on the relative values of a box of Husky commercials:

Huskys.thumb.png.ebdcabe722089fe042513fd148a76879.png

(pic nicked from the Treasures of Transport Instagram feed, as I didn't have the presence of mind to photograph them myself)

Three Guy Warrior coal trucks; two Shelvoke & Drury bin lorries (one in much better nick) and a Thames Anglia van with both rear doors intact, but a busted front bumper.

There was also a yellow VW Type 2 aerial platform truck, not pictured here.

All I could really say was anywhere between £2 and £5 seemed reasonable, and that the VW (which had its moving platform intact) could fetch maybe £8-10 at auction online.

There were also a handful of early Lesneys, including another Aveling Barford road roller like the one picked up for @egg the other week, and quite a nice Minor 1000 in metallic blue.

I concurred that £5 each was probably correct for them, with the Minor maybe worth a bit more.

They're nice wee models, but none perfect - and then I started to worry that I seemed to be blurring the boundaries between customer and advisor, and a fretfulness took over that I appeared to be lowballing them in order to snap them up cheap and make ££££ for myself...

Another oddity they were looking a steer on was this somewhat crude no-name 1930s/40s diecast:

20200215_114409.thumb.jpg.9fb0d1e6c0bfa969a0b3045a1a5caf59.jpg

20200215_114416.thumb.jpg.a7a4a77608f93101bc5789c531e9272b.jpg

My knowledge of this era of car is fairly appalling, so I don't even know if it's a recognisable model of a real car, or just a generic big 4-door touring car

20200215_114438.thumb.jpg.3586c418f3625bd0e97b096eb69ad428.jpg

No maker's name underneath - just 'Made in England' and a code that seems to say 860.

My guess was possibly a DCMT/Crescent item, but I couldn't really stand over that.

Any brights ideas, folks?

So I didn't spend much longer in the shop, as time was a-ticking - I gathered my purchases and headed off, conscious that I'd promised to be home by 11.30 and it was now way later...

Ultimately then, this was the requested haul.

Corgi Bentley Continental for @Amishtat:

20200215_150755.thumb.jpg.f653412b76359aac7eb66016d5752d66.jpg

20200215_150804.thumb.jpg.ff6d13790e5f92c58a0e73b3ea76368f.jpg

Opening boot and separate tail lights are quite nice.

20200215_150740.thumb.jpg.e8650c1b5cdc90e491e107e7d5f3a505.jpg

This looks quite original with just a couple of scratches, though seems to have been opened up at some stage, as there's fresh rivets underneath and a dab of glue around them.

The Dinky Ford Corsair has had more radical work done:

20200215_150842.thumb.jpg.ac961f30dc4e458ebb5e3ccb48d22e48.jpg

20200215_150849.thumb.jpg.44691b8acf42b56819f7ff635785fc8f.jpg

A more obvious repaint, with the bonnet either glued or just painted shut. Should make a nice display model once sorted out, I'd say.

An item for @RoadworkUK -

20200217_090621.thumb.jpg.aab754019af5448e27cee217b1493dbf.jpg

20200217_090636.thumb.jpg.03186bfb4d72757a4b6ae6b458a53df6.jpg

The Oxford Diecast racing Minis set, with BMC transporter.

Missing the outer cardboard wrap to the acrylic box, but otherwise quite decent.

And finally, a Morestone Royal Mail van for @egg:

 1863493645_20200208_151112(2).thumb.jpg.cb491e650b97055fd4437779a129a315.jpg

I thought I'd taken a snap of this at home, but apparently not - but it is here, and cosy enough with the Lesney road roller.

So there we have it... tat from far and wide.

I don't think I'll be over there again this weekend, but if there's anything else wanted, let me know!

Nah,you go for it egg!

I do like it,and if I found it would buy it.

The associated cost of postage and a difference in currency puts me off.

I do enjoy the virtual rummaging though  :D

Hopefully you'll get it at a decent price.

GLEEFULLY.

Good work that man. Please squirrel it away for me. If you have any success at that "roll a six to visit" model emporium with the Mini transporter, and the proprietor hasn't had a sudden change of heart on its price, please sweep that up and invoice me so I can close my account. (For now).

EDIT: You had great success! See above. Thank you very much. The thick atmosphere of the place was palpable in your description – I had vibes of John and Mary's shop on Craggy Island. Does seem quite a pleasingly eccentric little establishment, though. Could well be mutually beneficial having a decent arms-length relationship with the place.

OTHER NEWS: Once I've taken some decent pics, I've a review to post on something silly I've acquired. Tune in some time on Saturday.

The front end looks very similar to DCMT/Crescent's attempt at a pre-war Jaguar but a cursory Google shows that didn't have enclosed back wheels so I dunno. A plethora of small diecasting firms sprung up, mainly in the London area, just after the war, many of which shared/copied tooling or did sub-contract casting for others and didn't put their name on their products so it's probably from one of these obscure makes. Tying a couple of threads together, DCMT later became Lone Star, of which there was much recent discussion.

Tragically, the Morestone Taxi and both Lesneys had gone by the time I arrived over.

I'm not sure what was worse - realising that they must have been realistically priced (for a change) and had sold, or finding them still there but the proprietor wants £50 each because "them's rare, them's Dinkys, them's not toys now..."

However, I'll add the Morestone FX3 taxi to your 'looking-for' list!

The E-type was still there on the stall, but I'm afraid I'd already vacated the premises by the time I saw your message!

With any luck, folk won't really know what it is and it'll still be there next week. On the list!

Cool, thanks for that! I had the odd no-name generic model found at jumble sales and the like, so that's interesting to know about the subcontracting - I s'pose just after WW2 there was an interesting mix of war surplus metalworking machinery available, staff who knew how to work them, and a pent-up demand for toys after so many years where they hadn't been produced... a market where profit could be made churning out pretty much anything.

This one is surprisingly decent with no sign of the dreaded zinc pest, so it must have been well made at the time.

I meant to say to you, another rummage in the Smithfield model shop the other day turned up two MIB Lone Star Impys - a Leyland Turbine truck with late-issue Speedwheels, and a mint blister-pack Foden half-cab flatbed with the earlier Superfast-style wheels and construction blocks on the back.

The Leyland turbine was priced at £15 - and I couldn't see a price on the Foden half-cab, but happy to make enquiries!

Oh - and that's your Tat Parcel posted earlier on, so hopefully touching down with you on Monday/Tuesday.

Whatever it is, I've got one.  It was my Dad's and always neglected in the big box of Dinkys that me , my 3 brothers and 6 cousins played with at my Grandma's house from the mid-60's until I inherited the box in 1997- when I get home I'll dig it out, I'm sure I stripped the paint a few years ago and found a makers name.

A quick google reveals it's a Louis Marx toy probably made by Toby Toys UK, I remember the numberplate nowLM 860.

A quick read reveals they were made in Dudley- my Dad was born about a mile or so from Dudley in a place ( or street, not sure) called Rood End  in 1946 , about the same time as this precise * model of a Jaguar.

And finally today, a quite-big plastic Freelander, with RHD even!  WCPGW?

I'm not stirring out again today but he'll be there tomorrow so if you want anything, let me know tonight.

Wrc Xsara and Freelander please if still there when you next go?

A general gesticulation of "ten pounds each" was waved over this lot - fairly clean Corgi Commer vans (with extra interchangeable backs) possibly worth that, as is the decent Lesney King Size KW Dart Dump Truck.

Chipped smaller Lesneys (though the Bedford tipper does have most of its box), a Corgi Rice horse box with no drawbar, and a weird warped rubber 1940s touring car thing possibly not.

Yes, it's the same one.

FML, as the kids probably said about ten years ago.
