Any cheap aircon deals out there?

I'm hoping to get the XM's  aircon working some time soon, are there any cheap deals out there? Ideally it would be a "no work, no charge" type of deal.

 

I'd imagine that there will be a leak somewhere but you never know, it just may work!

Kwik fit won't charge if it doesn't charge the system . I took my avantime there to get it regassed on Saturday and the system wouldn't hold pressure.

However they will miraculously also manage to identify that your tracking is out, you need 5 new budget Wankcan tyres, the exhaust is on its last legs and even more oddly for an XM that its needs new springs and shocks - all from just finding your air con leaks.

Lol, I remember having a right row with a guy at Tyre Sales over an alternator he wanted to fit to my granada. Deffo one to look out for.

Kwikfit tried the springs and shocks thing with my dad on a ds. He said I'll come back later, just fit new shock absorbers all round.

 

Three hours later he bollocked them when he returned. It was a rather sheepish employee who had to deal with him.

Kwak Fuk once totally cocked up an XM I had. needed to replace the front discs due to a 'challenging' scenario on the M6 one night. Told them on no account to remove or tamper with the handbrake cable which on the xm comes off the front and if you remove you have to replace.

Not only did they not have the discs in stock (despite assuring me they did) but they then called me to tell me I needed a new handbrake cable...Once you remove the xm one it has to be replaced it can't be refitted. Needless to say they paid for the new cable and fitting once they checked the notes. Then a young mechanic tried to sell me shock absorbers. I asked him to show me where they were on the car. He pointed at the spheres before mumbling some bills hit. I asked him to get his boss and asked him if there was any truth in the rumours that Kwik Fit try and scare their customers into being stuff they don't need. When he denied this I asked him 'then why did your man here just try and sell me shocks for a hydropneumatic car?' 😈

 

I only went in there because it was 2 days before Xmas and I needed it turned round quickly.

Roll the window down! Benefits are :

1: you get the glorious freshish air.

2: It's free ( unless the leccy board has worked out how to charge us for the lectric used in the windows!).

3: Instant fix and you don't have to speak to the gormless twxts on day release form the local college!

4.You get to see if the french lectricks are up to the job!

Good idea but it has climate control, it spends most of the time blowing hot air into my face, desperately trying to get the temperature down!

I took the merc. to the dealer for an a/c service last month - £75, but they told me it had a leak and they couldn't charge the system. No kidding, that's why I took it to them to "service" not to refill. Anyway, found a mobile specialist in yellow pages who came out and found the leak (wasn't hard you could see the joint to the condenser leaking gas). Has taken off the faulty pipe and now has to make up a new pipe and condenser.

Kwik fit were fine with me. Just decline their free vehicle health check.

I've been trying to find a mobile aircon expert to fix the Avantime but not found anyone yet.
