I think a lot of this would be avoided with weather appropriate tyres.

The modern* trend for wide low profile tyres hasn't helped.

There is a very good reason for fitting winter tyres round here, so at the first sign of snow and ice back in november, thats what i did.

Im not even sure a lot of town centric drivers know winter tyres exist

Even if you don’t get snow, I find that winter tyres clear surface water really effectively and so are worth using in the winter when it rains non-fucking-stop down here on the sunny* South coast.

I’m sure 99% of peoples buying decisions for tyres are made on price, rather than performance and would probably apply more here than anywhere else 😂

I'm in for a quick break and things are bad, 40cm of snow so far today and with what I have from before I have around 80cm of snow now. Is also a lot of wind a Luton Sprinter blew off the road down at the coast this morning.

This is 8:48 am Sunday morning and it had already started to melt so I took the Volvo.

Definitely, but all season tyres aren't very expensive. Maybe they should be mandated.

Those Saabs don't just drive and look good in the snow - they actually cause snow to fall ❄️🤣

We had a decent showing on Sunday…

This morning it was all melting and instead my commute was dominated by flood dodging…

Less winter tyres I need, more like an amphicar!

I've got Rainsport 5s on my Astra. 235/50×18 wet grip A rated. Summer tyres all year round but where I live is very flat, and tends to be mildish being on the Northwest Coast, plus my commute is very flat.  I looked at winter tyres and none of them seemed to have the wet grip at A so I assume it's more about the compound and its ability at low temp than the ability to clear water all year round ?

Rainsports are very good in the wet but hopeless in cold weather I found.

Cold and damp seems to be a bad combination for most summer tyres.  The Falkens on the back of the Merc are also A-rated for wet grip but the car has really been struggling to get the power down over the last week or so.

The useless Met Office and local media have been predicting OMFGSNOKAOS up here since the 3rd week in December.
I just spent over £400 on all terrain tyres and I ain't seen a single fucking flake.
Bring me some snow Goddammit!

I've got winter tyres for the Saab 9-5 Aero because we drove down to Switzerland through Germany a year ago. I didn't snow then. We had a bit of snow here the other night but it was gone by morning so I still don't know if the tyres are better in snow.

About half an inch down Saturday, another 4-5 inches Sunday night. A lot melted yesterday but it has just started snowing again.

Got another 30cm of snow last night but this is wet and a nightmare to remove. The snow blower can't do it so has to use the loader which takes time, has also now damaged the back in snow shoveling.

I'd left the Merc alone all weekend, Had to move it in the snow yesterday Morning. My street is very narrow and doesn't get any attention from the council. But as everything was slushy it wasn't really an issue.

mercsnow.thumb.jpg.a655f7d888fd2c22848845eac89c76ba.jpg

This morning was a different matter. Everything had frozen solid, resulting in me (very slowly) sliding across the road into the verge opposite and getting both drivers side wheels stuck in the small divet at the side of the street.
The whole road was black ice/frozen snow. Found out that the Battlecruiser has an LSD, as with a careful bit of 'booting the funk' out of it it freed itself.

I've been a bit negative in the last posts, it's hard not to. But at least it's nice to be out working on a winter's night.
