I've just been sent this.

Am I stupid (no replies please) but this shouldn't be on a P reg?

Seems to be a Rover 100 backdated with the older front to make it look like a Metro. I'm not sure why anyone would do that, but it isn't the first I've encountered.

December 2002, latest I’ve seen.

I've seen a few 52 plates all in white. Think it's mentioned on here somewhere that it's to do with police force?

Managed to find another one with a random look on Facebook Marketplace, certainly taken a year to find one after pretty regular searches for old Peugeot tat... I be interested to know what the story behind the police having these is, they aren't even the more spritely 2.0 HDI

Not my photo but a car I have seen fairly recently, Evo Six on a 52 plate, production having stopped in Feb 2001 with the introduction of the seven (of which a lot are on Y plates). I know of one other one on a 52 plate.

I see your 07 MG and raise you a 57. DVLA says made in 2004 and registered September 2007.

Also, 1970 H-reg Mk3 Zephyr. Isn't that well into Mk4 territory? Didn't notice until I cropped the grabbed pic that it's LHD so presumably imported in 1970.

This may have been a repatriated diplomatic, army or RAF vehicle that came back from the then still big British forces in Germany. I remember loads of these being sold off in the late 60's at the Cow Roast garage on the A41 in Hertfordshire - probably came from government auctions - all lhd.  That may explain it and the 'odd' government black colour. Just a guess - but this  shape of Ford were gov. vehicles. Standard Vanguard and Humber Hawks were popular staff cars too.  Big enough for 5 or 6 burly men but not too showy or too pricey. Would have been bought in bulk under gov. contracts.

Shape of those Fords has aged well - was a 'big' car at the time - now pretty petite compared to the latest Frankenmotors.

Saw this in Leicester, pre-facelift MK2's stopped production late 2007/early 2008 with a few being on 08 plates but never seen a 58 before.

I have a feeling this is to do with Motorpoint or somewhere similar, I vaguely remember a friends mum have a pre-facelift on an 09 that was from a supermarket that bought loads of them in bulk.

The last R4s were 1992 iirc. J/K is the very latest they come, though UK models are very rarely later than C/D plate.

In France, you can get a runout 1992 4GTL Clan model in almost showroom condition for about €8000. They're valuable, but not massively so - 90s Minis for example significantly outvalue them over there, in similar condition.

I’ve heard of the police buying run outs of cars then storing them up.  The met did this with the sd1 3500s, even buying them from dealers wanting to clear their stock.  Some were issued with E reg plates after being stored.

I believe they did that with Senators too. Also the MOD bought a lot of the last Montego saloons.
