A big fat ZERO on all counts for me!

Volvo is a Volvo so naturally it’ll never break down or disgrace itself in any way.
Capri has been either in the garage being put back together or latterly out on local roads only ‘on test’ so doesn’t really count!
Mercury is on form at the moment and behaving itself impeccably (touch wood!)

So a successful year for me!

Zero on all counts for me. The C6 has never refused to start, it's what happens after it's started that's usually the problem.

Haw!

Make that one crash leading to an FTP, and a clutch slave going on the Vectra making it an FTP for it too.

1 crash.

2 FTPs.

My C15 the exhaust fell off - it had finally fractured half way down where the back- box fitted on.  I was also in France with it. But a quick scoot on LeBonCoin and I located a good second hand replacement in a local town for 35€, and picked it up at the local cafe. Then a village garage fitted it for me. Then the alternator packed up - which resulted in a trip with two batteries and swapping them over. Cause: slipping drive belt I hope - yet to be fully tested under real world conditions - but I've got the spanners and a replacement belt in it  - if it needs it en-route somewhere. Motto: be prepared.

Mercedes 300E sprung another fuel line leak which has grounded it again - still to be sorted.

Oh and the washing machine has packed up...😏

One FTP, my first in years.

More of a black mark for the useless cunt from the RAC than for the car itself, immobilised by nothing more than a detached intercooler hose that I'm sure a half decent mechanic would have spotted in 10 minutes instead of diagnosing a fault in a part the car didn't even have... (Like the one at my local garage did once I'd got them to tow it home after charging me £90 for the privilege, cunts)

1. Rennow Espace. Ran out of fuel but in my defence the gauge showed one 'blob' remaining and no flashing warning.

4 household vehicles. All bulletproof - though 1 bike did get trailered for some work with better tools than I possess after I broke an exhaust stud in the head.

Otherwise, no motoring calamities of any kind... He says, thoroughly jinxing it.

1 battery fail to start on the i10. To be fair I'd kept it barely alive with a solar trickle charger, so I knew it could happen.

Don't ask....

June: Suzuki attacked while parked in Germany, by a furrin Peugeot.

August: Jag disabled on the M56, limped into Chester Services and brought home by the RAC a mere 6 hours after I was due home.  And then the real fun* begins!

So yeah... don't ask. :(

5 mechanicals enough to interrupt the journey, 2 requiring recovery. Another one if you extend the period back to the previous November.

Not been a great year!

FTP - 1. Doblo - dead 7 year old battery.

Breakdown - 1. Sirion exhaust fell off, original at 16 years old.

I can live with that after crashing the Doblo in Nov '22 and 3 weeks later it's cambelt snapping.

Edit: FTP 2. Another battery this time on the Kawasaki ER6-F. Only shock was the £63 cost of a battery that is the same size as a tin of beans.

Fleet count: 2

Breakdowns: 0

MOTs passed first time: 2

So pleasingly dull, marred only by a bit of a pantomime ordering some Lexus suspension bits.

Actual breakdowns 2

Dacia electrical meltdown at FotU (got home at 3.30am) and motorbike chain snapping on the way back from FoD.  There were a few minor FTPs with both these vehicles but nothing else caused more than 10 minutes delay.

Crash's 1

Fell off the motorbike on the first day of Lands end to JoG trip after a bit too much back brake on a wet road.  Fixed* most of the damage with gaffer tape.

Maestro - The one and only time it let me down was when a gear linkage popped off and I lost all gears.  Happily an easy fix, pop the bonnet, stick the linkage back on the very worn socket, and we were away.  Only blot on its copy book during three years of ownership so it can be forgiven.

Princess - Bad earth leading to a melted throttle cable sheath stranding me in a retail car park for three hours.  Got to see one of these fancy hydraulic lifter trucks in action which was exciting.

FTPs - none made it home on flat tyres after the mother of all potholes wrecked both near side just before Xmas.

Subaru sump holed but made it to mates garage and is now fixed.....

CRASHES - 2ish....

1 - someone humped the rear bumper and crushed the corner - should pop out when I can be arsed to try.

2 - deer went through the rear lid window on the Forester - I'd stopped, but I'll still count it as hitting/being hit. Replacement lid in the lounge to respray and fit in the New Year

1st time passes for both 330 and Forester - shocked wasn't the word

Everything else has been a breeze all year - so I got off lightly tbh

2024 is gonna hurt - I'll bet

One breakdown and recovery in the Range Rover sudden cut out at 70mph on the A14 on a frosty night,  turned out the virtually new rotor arm from the Distributor Doctor was made of the wrong material and they didn't think it was sensible to contact those they had sold them too.

Also one fail to start in a Petrol station, faulty battery Isolator which I managed to by pass.

38 year old car and both failures down to modern parts!

Only issue on the others has been a puncture on the Fiesta and KA, both have 7spares so no real problem, a reflection on the compatability of modern roads and 45 profile tyres.

Of all the old shite I accrued over the course of the year, not one of them suffered a breakdown.

The only FTP I endured was when I borrowed my boss' Tesla.

1 breakdown, but not in any of my own old things

Work Citroen Relay, luckily not too far away.Rattle rattle, loss of power,& a lot of smoke.

I broke down around 11.30 & got back.to work(25 miles away)about 6.30 thanks to the RAC not seeming to have any trucks any more,& contracting everything out to companies who can't deal with anything as huge as a LWB van 🤔

Zero FTP's for the 405 estate, still using it for work and anything else I need it for.

It failed the MOT on 2 rear beam mounts and I replaced the rear brake compensator spring for a new stainless item while I was at it. Total cost of 55 quid for a year's motoring plus service items.

I've saved more than that as someone gave me 60 plus litres of diesel petrol mix they had pumped out their new Range Rover.

I must be blessed..... Years pass [many years...] and no FTP.

My ONLY 'money light'/3 cyl = pay garage sheets to rectify & clear codes...... 😯 MrGetz!!

I hit a large trough of water, being forced off by a 4x4..... and filled the engine bay/1 plug hole with water.

Keeping it dry, now ..... 👍

Super car tho. Looks great in that lighter colour - most of the Conquests were in sub-fusc gloom colours.
