Wtf is going on with car insurance prices?

I noticed the same with a lot of the cheaper polices, particularly when they have gold / silver / wing and a prayer cover grades from the same insurer.

Posted

Strangely enough, the Hastings quote was £700 more than last year but included 3rd party cover for other vehicles. and it is their wing and a prayer price.

Posted

Yep I chose the 3rd cheapest policy (by literally under a fivers difference) because it had 3rd party other cars. And glass cover, there were some fucking dirty tactics and extra add ons for that I saw 😡

Just had a oh do fuck off from co-op for the disco.

Last year: £298
This year: £647
Bonus of btw we're cranking the excess too.

So hello hastings premier*, £270 Could have got it less with the crap ones & excess jacked, but taking less than last time as a win.

Renewal just received from Peter James for Scirocco,  Rover 75 and Porsche 944S. Last year £368, this year £390. Worth spending time shopping around? I suspect not.

Posted

My renewal just hit my inbox. Its £14 more than last year. I will just let the auto renew run. I can't be arsed shopping around for that.

I got my renewal notice from LV+

They regretted the universal price increases but there was nothing they could do, all are in the same boat.

Then quoted the new cost.

Spoiler

£8 less than last year.

I haven't had an actual claim from them, but from another insurer when my Civic was written off.  got back more than I paid for it three years ago, no loss of no claims bonus either, despite LV+ handling it all.

Dashcams are your friend.  Incontrovertible evidence that shot the other driver down in flames, she didn't know there was a dashcam and my son, who was driving, never mentioned it to her :)

Motorbike insurance due next month so got some quotes in preparation and going to be another bumming... Had a claim on my car insurance which seems to be royally shafting me every opportunity

Cortina went from £100 to £143 but, with so much other shit going on, I left it too late to do anything about it. I’ll try and be more on the ball when the Senator’s renewal comes through but accept it’s still peanuts compared to some.

As a brief aside, when I just renewed with Peter James, I asked if the policy still included cover for driving other cars. Apparently it didn't,  but she was able to add it on at no extra cost. Always pays to ask.

Renewal from ESure £397 v £261 last year. So went on comparison sites , cheapest ESure Flex £269. The only difference I can see , is a bigger excess but if you use Go Compare , you get a free £250 XS cover which actually makes it lower. It’s £204 without adding protected NCB and legal aid. Not too bad for a modified Impreza.

Why couldn’t ESure just give me a better price to start with ? I would have gone with £300 ffs! This insurance farce every year really gets on my tits. I can only assume  the majority of people are so lazy they just auto- renew.

Just noted LV ad. Car insurance from “as little as £349”. I’m sure this was £299 last week and £199 last year.

As mentioned elsewhere on the forum I got caught using a mobile phone (it was a camera actually) behind the wheel of the car

Fined & 6 points - CU80 endorsement.

Mrs Henge renews her policy, So after failing to find the codes on line we phone Tesco.

To add the endorsement to me - additional cost £117

To remove me as second driver & have her as sole driver on the policy - additional cost £112

WTAF?????

Last year my V70 was £733.38, FC, minimum excess with Hastings.

I have just renewed with Hastings again for this year for... £364.64

I nearly fell off my own arse when the quote came through, cheapest by far even on comparison sites.

Renewed the insurance on the Dyane, it was awful, £65 all in with agreed value and misses Stinkwheel as a named driver. (As an indication, last year was £101)

I hope that's a trend that continues across the board! Mines due late Feb 🤞

£408 with Skippy [...🙄...] Comp. PAID!

Churchill renewal £880 hfm 😕

Mine on the TIPO went up £180 this year - about 30%. I used a couple of comparison sites which had a few cheaper options but by the time I added dad to the policy, eu and uk wide breakdown cover and legal etc there wasn’t much in it.

Had a good one on our house & contents cover recently. "Your renewal this year is £314.18, last year you paid £315.24", implying the premium has decreased. No, I actually paid £306.64, so you're trying to con me. I couldn't get a straight answer so went elsewhere. Just had a phone call blaming a 'system error' (seems to be a lot of those lately) and £30 in compo is on the way to me.

TL:DR - check their figures, they may be fibbing.

I'm still with Esure and paying £200-and-something odd quid for the Focus.  It's a policy with various add-ons, too.  There are some advantages to being old and having plenty of NCB.

BRITAIN MONOPOLY GAME-PRE PATENT LABEL

? :-)

Just tinkering with insurance quotes on the FreeLander and they're coming in at circa £200 on a social only, 8,000 miles policy (I paid £205 in November for it)

Then I tried https://compare-carinsurance.topcashback.co.uk/quoteretrieval (which is, I think , a skin of one of the other insurance sites) and they gave me £125 but no recovery, legal expenses, courtesy car etc etc. £134 gets windscreen cover added.
There's also £45 cashback which (usually) gets paid after 90 days.

With recent claims experience, Hastings for the house, Privilege for the car (Who can both FRO permanently), price will be less relevant in the future and I'll be checking out recent reviews instead.

I'm paying pretty much double to insure the qashqai over the Xsara. I've got 500cc less as well.

With 12+ years protected no claims it was £52something a month. I treated myself and added breakdown cover and doing that made it have a curtosey car if required 🤷 £60.12 a month. 10,000 miles a year

It wasn't the cheapest policy on the compare the market list either. But the really really cheap ones don't have windscreen cover which is sneaky as fuck. Plus the actual money difference between option is pence.

Poshest policy I've ever had though I think
