The car has a fucking long way to go before I'd trust it that far! But my dad did mention we could go to some European concerts...

I'd shit myself, never driven on the other side of the road unless within a contraflow 😂

You get used to it pretty quickly, it's coming back that's difficult

Insurance for this old fart has risen considerably, Saga have quoted £1048 on a 14 plate Volvo V40, full no claims, clean license, thats a £500 increase from last year, fortunately there is a bus stop over the road from house.

Saga do that a lot, because old people don't do meerkats.

It's worth shopping around. Aviva cover on my van actually went down this year.

I insure 4 cars for less than that. Shop around!

just had that renewal was 200 more than last year

money supermarket (refuse to meerkat) and only 85 more than last year

checking yesterday (its due on sat) and found one for only 20 quid more

thought saga might be worth a go but they were more than the OMFG renewal

always compare - its been a complete lottery the last 10 years

I have done, they were the cheapest quote last year by over £300, problem has arisen since I turned 70. Not just me, several people I know of my era have the same problem which includes my mechanic who may have to retire or raise his prices to cover it.

And that one sentence, sums up UK car insurance.

'How can we bend them over and take them from behind?'.

Sacked off Admiral this year after several years of the usual 'ring up and they'll match the cheapest renewal I find' routine. I've been keeping with them purely because they were the first insurer to offer me third party cover on other vehicles and that is a feature I do use on occasion (mainly if I need to drive dad's Splash or my mate's 2008, I'm already a named driver on mum's E-3008)

This year it was £250 more than I paid last year - now admittedly I changed cars but that was 1 month into the policy and my insurance actually went down changing from the Qashqai to the X-Trail.

Amazingly, Direct Line worked out to be the cheapest. Still had to pay £50 more that I did last year to keep European cover and pay for Green Flag cover I don't want or need (I get RAC included with the car as long as I keep servicing it with Nissan), but still. Something like £680 inc cost of monthly payments, but that is the top level of cover they offer with legal, breakdown, and protected NCB, and I still have my third party cover.

Just renewed my fully comp policy on the i10 with Darwin insurance (part of the Churchill group): £186. Can't ever recall my premium ever being that low.

I've been surprised that both my car, and bike insurance went down this year despite a non fault accident last year, where a skip lorry smeared me across the road after destroying my bike.

You'd think the huge solicitors fees and sizeable claim, even though not on my own insurance, would bite me - but no. Car insurance went down by £100 ish and bike down £20 despite a bigger/faster bike.

2CV came down £2 this year. Now under £120.

Paying just over £600 for three cars, including the C6. I do proper miles too (but, admittedly, drive like a nun).  Pay more in VED, or at least would if I taxed all the cars all the time - usually at least one is SORNed.

Since I turned 60 I've tried SAGA a few times and found them to be woefully uncompetitive.

Cheapest online quote today was Admiral £725.

There was also Sterling who's advert offered older driver cover from £295. So I clicked the  link and they dont offer an online quote! They were on the £750 quote I had at £850, how one qualifies for that is a mystery as I passd my test in 1966 and have never made a claim or any endorsements.

Both of my car insurance renewals take place this month.  The '61 Reliant has been with Lancaster for years.  Renewal premium is unchanged this year at £127 fully comp.  My daily, a 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage Juro CVT, was £250 fully comp + breakdown and legal cover last year with the RAC. I've stayed with them this year because renewal is just £7 more.  I was expecting both to go up this year as I'm 76 + insurance generally has increased to cover the costs of repairing or writing off modern cars. Pleasantly surprised 😀 for a change.

Wife's classic Mini was £56 😀

I haven't read the whole thread, but when headlights cost up to £1500 and f*ck knows what other panels etc cost, no wonder insurance is through the roof.

I tried at 59, and found that to be true.

My Berlingo is down about £100, £146 fully comp, couldn't believe it, no shopping about, same company.

Biggest change this year was the van - used to be fairly cheap insuring horseboxes but not so much these days (lifestyle/scene vans maybe upsetting the underwriters?) - that was up 20% from last year.
Everything else has been pretty well unchanged tbh.

VW T2 was up about a tenner to £220. The 944, Rover 75 and Scirocco are all on another policy which renews in July.
