Bren
Despite doing an impression of a fish on a riverbank I have been messing with the vectra. See where the dipstick is? Next to it (to the left)is a rubber breather pipe. Ours has perished coating the front of the engine in oil. Whoever decided to route the pipe here obviously had fingers like ET. It was a twat to get it out. I managed to remove it only to find I have no pipe that size - vauxhall probably wont have it in stock. Off to the motor factors tomorrow then. Well yesterday was reverse Karma day, and I got a nice bit of flint in my eye. Yesterday I did the water pump for that old boy around the corner, today was reverse Karma day. I did some plumbing for other halfs mother ... expanding foam went all to fuck and pushed all the push-fit pipes off 🤦♂️ So shall await for it to set and re do those bits 😅 High Jetter and myglaren

Don't tell anyone, but me and the missus caught a dog which had got loose, and returned it to its owner (No Karma required !) Infact I should have taken it the vets rather than hand it to the woman, as it looked like it had fleas and a leaky eye. I'll have to see what Tesco is, it was 1.399 for Momentum about two week back. I managed to fill up the Nissan with e5 Regular today, wonder how much longer that will last. Now I don't mind filling the Audi with premium as I don't drive it often but the Primera is a daily wagon, it'll get rather expensive to run on premium if it doesn't agree with E10. MikeR
'reverse Karma' has got me many times , I tend to move on now , it normally involves chasing some one who wants a favour doing ... as for petrol all I can say its a good things we have a C1 in the fleet , if I still had my 240 it would cost a fiver to warm it up !!! Zelandeth
Now I have very wet feet after traipsing about 25 minutes along this bloody verge. Reason why is clearly visible. Apparently after having tyres fitted one wheel trim wasn't properly secured. Just glad it escaped other traffic, didn't mow down any pedestrians (these metal trims aren't light!) and didn't disappear into the wooded area in front of me or the giant sea of nettles just behind me. Safety cable ties will be getting added before I go anywhere in the morning! adw1977 and BorniteIdentity
brownnova
Off away in the Campervan tomorrow… better tax it… won’t let me do it as days already taxed. But I Sorned it last October didn’t I? Fucksticks… apparently not! Well thats over £200 wasted!! How did I not realise! I was sure I had done it!! Arse. And as all the tyres are 12 years old I have been told I need to replace them tomorrow before we go away as well… save money… buy a Campervan… adw1977, myglaren, BorniteIdentity and 2 others

Fumbler
This is my grandmother's new method of parking Just inside the garage enough so that I cannot close the door, with the keys in the ignition. Oh, and conveniently parked in just the perfect angle so I have a hard time parking my own car. Her new rear bumper has a bollard-sized crack in it now. At this rate all second gen Rav4 body plastics in stock will have gone on this car and been destroyed. GrumpiusMaximus

Tyres which have been stomping along the queen's highway/sat idle for long periods of time for more than a decade are never worth the risk, surely? For the sake of a couple of hundred quid it's decent peace of mind when your family are on board. GeorgeB, Agila, brownnova and 1 other

After once having a blow out on the M5 at 60 mph with an old tyre in a previous Campervan I am wary of old tyres… domestic management even more so. These tyres look like they’ve barely done any miles at all, although in all fairness the van has only done about 2000 miles in the last 8 years… but they are all 2008 or 2009 dated. I’ll drive short distances but SWMBO has put her foot down that I get tyres before this trip. Of course the irony being that I can’t take both the littleuns and the wife on board as there aren’t enough seatbelts, and for all my “it’ll be easy to fit extra seatbelts” it really isn’t. So the van may have to go… after just two trips in our ownership unless I can figure out a solution.
Talbot
3 minutes ago, brownnova said: “it’ll be easy to fit extra seatbelts” They would need to be attached to steelwork somewhere, that eventually finds it's way back to the body (IE not to any wooden fixtures or similar). One option would be for a rear-facing seat behind the driver/passenger, but it depends a lot on the layout of your van as to what can or can't be done. Box section steel and a welder would make something more than safe, but you don't want to compromise the living space of the vehicle.

Yeah I had an idea with some seats (Scot seats) with inbuilt seatbelts mounted to the chassis on the front facing rear seats… sadly the water heater spoilt that plan by being in the way. There are frames you can buy to bolt through to the chassis or a plate welded to the chassis, but can’t find any for sale which fits at present. It may be possible to fit something to the rear facing seats behind the drivers seat, that’s the next avenue, but that would lose the one rear lap belt we do have! And 5 seatbelts will likely be a requirement by next summer. The 2CV is coming with us this weekend, so it’s not a worry this time. I do hope I work out a solution though. Van layout seems easy, but it’s the lack of structural metal in the coachbuilt section which hinders things.
Talbot
One thing that you could do is have a frame made up that accepts ISOFIX kiddie seats, mounted rear-facing behind the driver. That way the seats can be mounted for travel, then removed and stored when you get there, thus not interfering with the bed/sofa area. Would be an interesting little project. brownnova
3VOM
I think mine (Talbot Express Autohomes Highwayman) had two lap belts in the forward facing seats secured to a bar under the floor and hopefully attached to the chassis. brownnova
