The wonder of Twitter is that someone has usually backed up the tweets elsewhere, so it barely matters if it's deleted or not

'Politwoops' being a case in point.

Still got any of those Shark hoovers we chatted about ? ... if you fancy posting one of them 🤷‍♂️

You know I plain forgot. The little ones flew out the door HOWEVER... you could save me having to list the Apex DuoClean I've got to finish off tonight...

This one, but in black. Assuming it works after etc. Ax950

I was getting messages before even listing the other ones, almost makes me want to get more... But I got lucky! They all start needing motors and its game over.

Its not hissy fits..

Deleting a thread just because you don't like the way it's going is absolutely a hissy fit.

I've not read the thread in question.  I rather wish I could now and make up my own mind, but you've somewhat prevented that.

Other members above have stated that no-one had a go at you in the thread, and I'm inclined to believe them.

If you really cannot cope with being on what is generally one of the friendlier forums on the internet, then you need to find somewhere better for your health.

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being fluffy and 10 being the worst of the internet, this place is about a 3.  Maybe a 4 on a bad day.

That's your call and your decision.  Don't blame others for it.

Far too much internet gold has been lost due to people throwing a wobbly

It's one thing someone deleting their own content, but when a person who started a topic has the power to, with the click of a button, delete everybody else's contributions to that topic at the same time, there's got to be something wrong.

We've got threads here that run to thousands of pages - it shouldn't be in the gift of a single user just to delete the whole thing. For example, it just so happens that I started the "new members" thread, which has now got intro posts on it from loads of people. The idea that I could go and delete all of that, just because I happened to be having a pissy day like @Rab is a bit ridiculous.

Grumps come in three.

1) Police aren't interested in following up the thieving sod who stole £2500 from me for 'landscaping'.

2) Nobody  else wants the job of sorting it, not that we have much left in the pot that we had set aside

3) My wife made an ace gammon roast dinner (not the grump). I had just been to the shop and treated myself so some Irn Bru to go with it. The mash was also particularly good. My wife didn't finish hers so I scooped up a bit of her leftovers with my knife and this happened.

Just spent about two hours trying to get a network cable down from the loft to the ground floor so I can just plug a cable into the new modem and use the existing access points etc and not faff about with the router/access point the provider have given us as it's almost inevitably a piece of junk.

Have just figured out that due to how this place was built that the ceiling panel extends all the way out into the wall cavity...so there's no contiguous void for me to drop the cable down through.

Should have realised this as the upper floor is the same and I had to drill holes to get into the upstairs wall cavity.  That's not an option for downstairs unless I go and rip a huge amount of wall out.

I'm getting the impression we're just going to have an ethernet cable running up the wall and through the ceiling right now.

The high degree of prefabrication of parts of this house was an absolute bonus for the folks building it... however can be an absolute pain at times when trying to do jobs like this.

By eck the world's gone mad. How are they different genetically from "normal" Irish people? Why haven't druggie shoplifters used the same logic to form a race? You can't stop me stealing these razor blades, it's my cultural heritage....

I started this thread, but would I consider deleting 3389 pages because I disagreed with someone?

Nope.

Dick behaviour which I try and keep to a minimum.

I'm guessing it's the fact they blocked people with Irish names and accents, not because they were necessarily  travellers. It's a bit like tarring everyone from Italy as moped riding arse pinching handbag thieves and stopping anyone Italian or with an Italian name from coming in.

Discrimination against gypsies is a real (and racist) thing, though perhaps they'd get a lot more sympathy if they proved the people wrong who say they never clean up after themselves when they illegally camp. Or park on a cycleway/path blocking it off with vans and caravans, then say they 'didn't understand they couldn't do that'. Or give me back my fucking RSJ. That type of thing.

Bit late for my reply on this, but the very first thing that anyone can do to improve their home broadband experience is to bin the utter pile of wank router that comes free with the service and put a decent one in.  The free ones are free for a reason.  Shit software, bad packet management, years-old design (that was the cheapest of the cheap in the first place) and manufactured by the millions with sod all quality control.

My personal preference is DrayTek routers.  Very robust, very reliable and extremely versatile:  settings for just about everything.  Most of their range is likely to be far and above what most people need for a domestic router, but it's worth it.

Because they're so robust, a second-hand one is a perfectly good prospect.

Less than a tenner delivered and about 56.4 times better than anything that comes free.

Thank you, good to have someone who knows what they are talking about around. Luckily it seems to have been fixed before openreach were due to come today as it stopped dropping out. I'll remember the router tip for if it breaks but it seems much faster than EE's broadband was.

Absolutely;  assumptions, especially lazy assumptions, make an ass out of you and umption, or something. Mea culpa, etc. [genuflects towards Longbridge]

Thanks for that, bought one because it's worth a try for the sake of a tenner.

On the BT wanting the old ones back, I don't know if they actually require them back but they were very obliging with sending me pre-paid postage bags so I could recycle my parent's collection of old shite BT routers last year.  Think they are obligated to take them under the WEEE regulations? Or something?

Fun police at work; Godwin's law, blah blah, snowflakes, blah, blah, deleted threads, blah, not fair, legal jeopardy, blah, blah. Have I covered all the bases? If you're going to delete a thread every time someone takes a huff at what someone else has written this place will be pretty bare soon.

If you're referring to Rab's Hunter thread, none of the mods touched that AFAIK.  Appears to be DIY.

Hunter was looked at by three mechanics.Andy paid one mechanic 100quid.He tried his best..but the profi decision was that it was far too gone.A truck driver got paid..and the parts will save others. Thanks to folk who offered help and advice..but their was no malice or rip offs intended. Andy thought it was great..but beyond help. However the whole experience has been quite unpleasant..my reaction didnt help..and on that ...its all over.

Shall we all just take a breath here, shake hands (virtually and observing current guidance, etc.) and get back to talking shite?

I can't speak for anyone else, but when I posted asking "what happened?" a  sensible answer like this was all I was looking for. I think a lot of us were genuinely curious as to what had changed between the initial optimism and the decision that it was too far gone. We all appreciate that it sometimes happens.

I suspect this is the case.  A staggering number of people can't grasp the simple message that electronics and electrical equipment does not go in the general waste bin.

Yes they need to be collected together, then shipped to China, have the circuit boards ripped out so that Chinese people can be paid $10 a day to unsolder components from them until they die from sucking in poisonous fumes, and then what's left can be thrown in a smelter.

With the corollary that hopeless heaps fit for bean tins sometimes mesmerise hapless shiters and hypnotise them into spending 1300 hours turning bran flakes into shiny 1970s glitz.

There was another "discrimination" story on the BBC today - apparently Twitch have reversed their decision to start using "womxn" instead of "women".  I was hoping that the decision had been reversed because it was fucking stupid, but apparently the reason is because it's transphobic.

I couldn't follow the logic* as to why it was considered such, although I was mildly amused that a company's attempt to be woke had come back and bitten it on the arse, but it raises an interesting question for me, and I don't know whether the AS Wokerati™ might be able to enlighten me - what happens when the interests of two minority groups (in this case, feminists and LGBT) conflict?  How is the decision made as to which group's interests trump the other group's?  I'd imagine that this is going to be an increasingly common conundrum in a world where large sectors of the population spend their lives in a never-ending quest for things to be offended by.

It's a conundrum that is fuelling a stairheid rammy in the SNP at the moment and neither side is taking prisoners; Joanna Cherry got bumped from the front bench in Westminster because of a twitter spat with someone. The whole thing has the feel of People's Front of Judea vs Judean People's Front about it.
