The grumpy thread

Really has been making me sick reading what someone is going through over in the US right now.

They're one of those people who would give anyone in need the shirt off their own back, and that's what has wound up getting them into trouble.

They've been subject to a fantastic miscarriage of justice, and there's just nobody in any position to actually help who seems to have any interest in lending a hand.

To put the magnitude of how hard things are for them - at one point they became suicidal. The officials in charge of things at that time put them under even more strict supervision. Not for their welfare - but because them taking their life would be "far too easy a way out for them" as they saw it.

The whole situation is making me feel really really powerless...I really want to do something to help but there is literally nothing I can do.

I have a very similar one but slightly longer and stainless steel. Used to live in my toolbox/car but there's far too many stories of people getting in trouble for having lesser knives in their car...

Very good knives though, used one to cut the remains of the 205s alternator belt when it shat itself and it cut through as if there was nothing there.

Car related trumps.

Last night I attempted to find the small leak of coolant in my daughter's Bini.

It is going from max to min in 300 miles.

There is coolant pooling on top of the gearbox housing.

I got it hot, got the air filter box off, removed the battery and box and rigged it back up to the battery with jump leads so i can see it running.

Can I see any evidence of a leak. I can see evidence of bodged and rushed mechanicing (more of that later). But no actual pipe or hose that looks remotely suspect.

I put it back together and gave her a 5 litre container with a 50:50 mix.

Got up this morning to find a tyre flat.

Nail with some roofing material still attached.

Put the skinny spare on and drove 65 miles at 50.mph.

My range went up from 250 to 300 despite the extra miles.

The extra economy will pay for the repair.

On the plus side they are fitting it to new cars so we'll all have retired before it affects us (except reb and ghosty).

I'd have to live until I am 124 before I need worry about anything built in 2022.....I liked what the AA bloke said about speed limiters though and how "well" they stop dodgems from crashing....

Where I used to work, our 7.5 tonners were restricted to 62mph, all it did was stop us speeding on the motorway. What we lost on the swings we made up on the roundabouts.

Real world problems:

Yesterday morning at the lights, someone in some sort of 2016-ish Citroen estate thing tried to have me off. Served him up big time.

Today, at the same lights, someone on a motorbike that looked like it was about a 500cc thing DID have me off at the lights. Big time.

I'd like to say that doesn't affect me because old car, but by 2022 I'll be banned from driving in most city centres anyway...

I may as well get a qualification in gynaecology, I'm sure I deal with more cunts than they do at work.

^ My mother was a private nurse to one of the landed gentry until the lady died.

There was a posh dinner going on with all the local bigwigs in attendance, including a well known doctor.

The maid was serving peas when he suddenly and for no apparent reason said "I'm sick of looking up women's fannies today"

Everyone was aghast and the maid dropped the silver server of peas on the floor and rushed out shocked.

Those were more genteel times, in the main - about 1930.

I see a rebellion - with the signs that are to be 'read' being turned 90' or removed altogether……… No sign to read - no problem or limiter kicking in...…….

If it's on GPS - instant plethora of GPS hacks to tell it you're driving on the moon or a DE autobahn…… problem solved

The day I stop driving 90s diesel shit is the day I stop caring about driving. So, shouldn't affect me anyway.

So I'm using the South Eastern railway "early bird" service into London from Kent. Nobody tells you to first obtain a photocard ID. Why do I need an ID to buy a train ticket? Not a clue but you do because the machine demands a number apparently printed on it.

So I got their "key" "smart" card thing but nope that's not right as it tried to charge an extra £20 for the week.

I did eventually find a single line of text in their website buried deep in their season ticket info saying a SE trains id is required so I guess that's my fault. Of course, the website doesn't tell you how to get one. I eventually found a forum post that says to get one from the ticket office. That would be fine but I'm travelling at 0615 and it's never open.

In the mean time, and in mild fury, I bashed in random 4 numbers and it worked. Probably used someone else's code by mistake whoops!

Why is giving a train company money such a pain in the arse? In case your wondering, £70 a week to commute into London (or £25 a day if I travel 20 mins later) plus a 15 mins drive to the station.

Just realised I forgot to pay for parking at the station on Tuesday. Car’s still there.

How many PCNs do we think?

Posted

The shit thing is I can’t do anything about it. Going home tonight so we’ll see.

I could pay for today but if they’ve already issued PCNs there’s no point

I actually did something very similar at the O2 in Greenwich. I had to turn around, park outside the front gate, run back in and paid at the machine. Kept the ticket incase the ANPR or whatever tagged me.

I avoid trains as much as possible after a 6 month contract in Hemel Hempstead.

I live in North Merseyside on the Northern line.

The first train to Liverpool is just before 6 am. and gets you to southpark way just about 6:40.

At 7 a train that goes to Milton Keynes might come.

Thus you might arrive in work before lunch time.

Or the alternatives are leave house at 4:45 and arrive at 8:30 If you are lucky or 9:30 If not.

Or leave the house at 5:00. Park at Runcorn and get train from.Liverpool

Eventually arriving in Hemel at 9 am. Get bus to industrial estate arrive just as the 9 am start up meeting is finished.

FRIDAYS were shitter.

Hence "no I don't want a contract extension"

Have to say, once I gotten past the ticket shinnanigans it's not a bad journey. Train isn't too busy at that time and the site is right next to the station so no changes, tube or anything.

I'm putting into the office about £120 a week in travel expenses though....

The NE of Scotland is crap for finding cars.

Autotrader search earlier. £2k budget, over 2 litres, manual box. 100 mile radius.

3 pages and 3 pages only, of utter dross. Depressing. Somebody was asking £1800 for a 2005 Saab 9-5 2.3t, not even an aero. Really? Or am I out of touch and 14 year old saabs have jumped in value?

^^ Everything has jumped up in bloody value. Best to stick to buying off here, it's still the early 90's.

Chap is supposed to be collecting the Land Rover today, he has not seen it deal done via text messages and phone calls. We have agreed a price and I have said that is not a point to negotiate downwards when we meet. Just as I got down to the station to meet his train got a text to say he was running late and will now get in at 3. By the time I get home it will be time to come back so now got to waste an hour or so. I am not confident that we have a deal, I don't feel good about the vehicle, as despite spending loads on it and selling for about half what it's cost me, I don't like selling things with issues, even though I have declared them. I just want to see the back of it.

Just realised the MoT is up on the Saab in just under a month. I thought it was mid-May. Feck.
