May - buy dashcam for car spotting

July - dashcam pops fuse.  Replace fuse.  Reset to factory, take it on some trial runs, doesn't work properly.

July-present - won't auto-on, won't auto-record, won't auto-off, eats files, is generally a shit.

It's going back for a refund on Monday, I don't want it.  Nextbase 112, for those wishing to avoid.  Looking online it seems a few folks have had similar issues with them being really unreliable.  Oh well, no great loss.

Have you tried looking at them from further away?  If that doesn't work, try looking at them when it's raining.  If that's not working, try looking at them at night.  If that still doesn't work, just turn the radio up and ignore them.

There are a lot of things I miss about my days of running 70s cars but the constant battle with rust isn't one of them.

One of the workstation PCs here went "phut" when powered on this morning.  That will be a duff power supply then. No Biggie, will pop out in the afternoon and grab one. Yes it will be more expensive than online, but I'll happily pay a few more quid for the convenience of being able to just get it rather than faff about ordering it, hovering around all day waiting for the delivery etc.

Obviously with the demise of Maplin, I've only really got one option now that's open at the weekend...PC World.  Discovered that now their competition in that field is out the way that they have now completely ditched their range of basic nuts and bolts PC Hardware in store.  They don't carry *any* basic components any more.

We'll screw you then PC World, I will just buy it from Amazon then if you don't want my money.

I miss being able to just decide I need something and an hour later having it in my hand.

I can't top that but after picking a bit of paint lifting on the bathroom ceiling, the job has ended up a fair bit bigger.

I see this a lot. New plaster and paint straight out of the paint bucket. No miss coat. DIYers stylee.

What fun , eh ?

Yeah. I know we should have probably put watered down PVA on first too. However we don't have the time to do that. :|

Paint is pretty thin already though to be fair. It's had 3 coats with drying time between, but it looks like it'll need at least another two tomorrow. Finding good quality paint that is available off the shelf seems pretty hard thing to do nowadays.

I've just been given one that's died in exactly the same way. Now check the pre motor filter and hang your head in shame! Poor dc07 animal

I was sucking up water too with it, so I guess that'll clean the filter for me? Right?

It could also do with a new brush bar as I removed it because it had rusted and siezed solid. Actually bought this vacuum cheap as a spares machine for our other DC7. Except I gave that to my brother-in-law and I have no idea where that one has gone now.

This one's sole purpose in life is to be the machine that takes the abuse that I don't want to put on our Sebo. Mrs SiC wants to chuck this Dyson down the tip though...

DIY killed every Dyson my family have had.

They don't seem to be able to cope with abrasive dust.

Just scanned a page of an old car mag I'm digitising no less than seven times trying to get it straight before looking closer and discovering that my scan is just fine - the whole magazine is printed slightly rotated anticlockwise...now to decide whether I'm going to fix it in software or leave it be. Not sure I can stomach manually fixing 116 pages...

Are there no independent computer shops anymore?

Used to be scads of them round here, and computer fairs where you could pick up just about anything and cheaply too.

It's a long while back since I built my last PC from scratch and that was bought online in various bits.

I know of two, neither of which open at the weekend. Plus last time I tried to buy anything from one of them they refused to sell me what I was asking for because it wasn't the top of the line gaming kit... despite having made it very clear it was for a basic workstation not a gaming rig.

Do need to try to get in touch with the WEEE recycling place nearby in the off chance they'd be willing to sell any of the ancient stuff that comes in now and then...as most of my systems are at best "old" but 80s and 90s stuff is a hobby.

Floppy discs (both 3.5" and 5 1/4") are precious commodities in this household!

I was at one point convinced I could successfully* Zorb down the Huka falls in New Zealand and I could start a new extreme sport doing so.

Older and wiser heads said successful would be coming out alive and wouldn't lend me a Zorb to try it. Spoilsports!

Who needs a Zorb !

We have a few local ones. Pretty good with parts. Have some old stuff too. Other than that we now have none in my Immidiate Kent/East Sussex area.

Decided last night at work to smack my hand.

Spent 2 hours ignoring it, until someone said "you look rough" then decided to go to hospital.

It's not broken just bloody Painful, swollen and a multitude of colours.

This is bad news, hopefully someone will step in and pump in some cash now they'll get decent publicity out of being seen to be coming to the rescue.

I mean, look at it. Do these people have no fucking shame? They're probably complaining about the amount of foreigners here too or something equally as baffling.

They should do fucking BMI tests at passport control. Issue them with a licence for a bikini or being in public with no shirt if they are not found to fall within decency laws.

I ain't obese but I'm no Brad Pitt either and do the decent thing and keep my top on as no fecker wants to see my fucking tits as I'm a man and shouldn't have them.

Anyhow, weathers lovely, ImpJr is having a good time and the foods nice, see you when we get back into the UK we need to arrange a catch up.

Lots of love

A grump that turned into a grin:

Was at McDs drive thru, a new Astra arrives at the second speaker just after me. I finish ordering and pull away and this fucker decides he's gonna be in front of me no matter what, floors it and makes me stop to avoid a crash.

Get to the window and it's way cheaper than what I was expecting so I question it and they charged mr angry what mine should have been because they thought it was me.

LOL, I laughed all the way to work. Karma. Hope he choked on his expensive breakfast wrap.

Following my PPI cheque finally clearing after my bank "lost it" for a couple of weeks (fuck you First Direct), I'm looking to replace my welding kit that got robbed

Been in touch with local companies who stock the level of gear I'm interested in

You would think a potential sale for nearly a couple of grands worth of gear might have some impact...

Seems nobody wants to take my money over here

I'm even looking at getting the same stuff sent over from the UK or Germany as it seems nobody is that bothered here in BG.

Yup, nothing worse when you're on your hols wanting to take in some of the local culture etc and you come across a place full of English & Irish themed bars.

And the annoying family who go to a local restaurant for local people and ask if they do any English food, then moan because 'the chips aren't as good as back home'.

A trick I learnt from my father in law.

1. Ask the receptionist at the hotel where the locals eat.

2. Ask her to book you a table.

3. When you arrive, shake your host by the hand and tell him you've been told it's the best food in town.

4. Ask them what is best and freshest tonight. Do not look at the menu.

5. When food turns out to be great, give a fucking massive tip and book for the be t night.

6. Go to the same place every night for the next 10 days.

7. Send them Christmas card.

8. Return to the same hotel and email the restaurant in advance telling them that you look forward to seeing them all again.

Repeat twice a year for 2 weeks at a time for 15 years.

Do not blame the person who made the mistake, but those members of his family who didn't stop to ask if he was still competent to drive and didn't take his keys off him.

I was fortunate enough for my grandparents to have a property in southern Spain for around 15 years; meaning cheap* holidays when I was a kid. Grandparents spend 6 months there, 6 months here and soon learnt the best places to eat, visit, take in a bit of culture etc. Important part of my childhood & teenage years. Every year the restauranteurs, camareros etc would greet us and we'd get complimentary drinks etc and a bit knocked off the bills as my grandparents spoke pretty good Spanish, made friends with both locals and other ex-pats.

I think we were the only family that drove around Nerja in an S-reg Chrysler Avenger. I was hoping granddad would save it for me as my first car, but he gave it to a local car collector (the Avenger wasn't sold in Spain AFAIK) and bought a BX on Spanish tourismo plates - 1-MA-6562 was the reg. Wonder if it still exists?

They sold the place when Nerja & that part of the Costa del Sol became too touristy, think they got out at the right time TBH. By 1999 it was a bit like the people you see on Benidorm.

If that's the case then that's a fair point. Sadly the other argument is pikeys with a caravan stolen 20 minutes before going by local rumblings. Sure we will find out soon enough.

I didn’t realise that was the crash reason. Very sad.
