blocking a driveway (anywhere with a dropped kerb) is an road traffic offence. but, apparantly, not if the driveway in question is empty.

if its your driveway: get an old shitter and park it within 3mm of the drivers door - they dont like that much and laugh at them when they have the gaul to knock on your door to complain

maybe add some dog shit to the passenger side door handles (if, like me, your childish and evil )

Mock up a £60 fixed penalty fine with your bank account deposit details and stick to the windscreen.

They probably won't pay but will likely have palpitations for a few minutes at least.

If they do pay, all the better.

MPG IS THE NEW MPH.

Now that you cannot drive anywhere without being bummed for £60 by gatso cameras, fuel economy is the latest cock-waving championship.

I do get really irritated by spurious fuel claims, you cannot CANNOT get 40+mpg on average from an old dolomite on twin SU's. Ever.

But the manufacturers are just as bad, economy 'headline' rates are all at 56mph, which is a ridiculously pedestrian speed. Where is my 60mpgZ???

(Example: Went to Donny last night for work, so a round trip of 240 miles, empty dual carriageway there and back, 75mph cruising speed. Used three-quarters of a tank. Unacceptable. ..)

Also that horrible Citroen thing we had a while back, that was supposed to do eleventyhundred mpg, yeah if you crawl everywhere at 40mph in 5th. GRIM.

Other cars surprise you, e.g. my BMW is quite good on fuel, especially on the motorway. I have considered using it for work instead of the krapgoo, but ti would get totally ruined in a week.

Then there's the proper old grot, of which you start with a low expectation and you are not disappointed. Series Land Rover, hmm 20 to the gallon on a good day. Humber Sceptre... jeezus that was thirsty. Modified Range Rover... single figures. Painful, but fun.

I had someone on RR asking about the MPG on my 1602 as they do 25k a year and wondered if my car was economical

I've done 180 miles in the last 4 days in it and i had to fill it up this afternoon and it cost £30, Can't decide if that's good or not, Though most my driving has been at 70mph on the duel carriageway in 4th gear.

Posted

That's about 30mpg, I think. That's good! Shockingly, 1.8 K-series engines only really get 30mpg.

I need to know mpg on every car I buy, sorry.

That's about 33mpg so not to bad really.

That is pretty good when you put it like that, It's better then the Mondeo ST24 i had.

Scorpio averages 17.2mpg but the grin factor fucks any guilt off. Land Rover with at least half a ton of shit in it hits about 23 ish......Slowly.

Posted

The one time I brimmed the Mini and took notes it averaged 44mpg. That was on a run with a heavy driver and an engine block in the boot, so nothing to complain about. I have never attempted to measure the Herald's fuel economy. I imagine it will be unimpressive.

My sister's been shopping for a new car this week. Shopping for a car when you need a reliable, economical, practical, 20,000/yr vehicle on a budget is not fun. It's boring. She did say that she can see why I'm into older cars now - a couple of hours looking at 02-07 Fords, Citroens etc they've all started to look the same to her. And me.

SD1 3.5 averages 19 in town, up to 30 on a run.

SD1 4.2 averages 14 in town, up to 30 on a run.

Don't know about the others, but as far as I'm concerned, the depreciation on a newish diesel is higher than my fuel bill.

48MPG in my Commer , Beemers about 23 around town , long run next weekend in it will tell the tell , my old Quattro managed 23 on a run so that was not good

I think the ref will ultimately dodge a bullet due to the horrific playing in evidence here, its not like a team at all.

Posted

They have played totally shit, I bet there are Sunday league teams that could of done better.

I can imagine that there will be a lot of trouble in the bars and pubs this evening.

Posted

Indeed.

I said from the first game it looks like England don't want to play for Capello, he must have really pissed them off or something.

Defensively especially they were absolutely disgraceful today and I'm bloody glad I didn't go to the pub to watch it and waste money on ale and taxis.

MPG:

Astra Mk3 I think is probably doing 30-35+. Never really tried too hard to test exactly what it's doing but is defo better than the Mk4 I just sold.

190E was doing 30mpg no bother and could get mid-late thirties quite easily.

Pisshat I don't know as only got it yesterday. I'm hoping it'll be early forties at the absolute worse as I'm doing virtually double my daily mileage now.

Vespa obviously pretty good. Not measured it exactly yet but think about 60-ish+ to the gallon on mixed route riding.

Volvo does 20 whether you cane it or not. In town it's worse. If it's all motorway \ B road work you can get about 230 miles from a tank. I got from mine to Sherborne Hall and into Bristol on the way back before I ran out.

Citroen, quite a bit, then again I can't fucking do over 70 can I? Bollocks.

Posted

I never really bother working out MPG. Sprinter seems reasonably good in that it doesn't tend to go through that much diesel, R4 seems pretty good but has a pretty small tank. SEAT tells me that it does about 37mpg on a decent run. If Mrs L uses it round town though it appears to be doing about half that

205 manages 100 miles on £13.50 on the motorway and a little less around town. Not too bad for a eighteen year old four speeder.

That shouldn't really matter, they are playing for their country, not Capello. Even people like me that never watch league games make time for international matches and that was a disgrace.

Surely 11 players on stratospheric salaries can work out their own way to play in a game? We did at school.

Posted

Oh absolutely, I just think the lazy bastards were trying to prove a point to the manager. What excuse they have today though I cannot imagine. I ran a hopeless junior team for about five years, we go tonked by amslot everybody but at least the kids tried.

New Diesel????

Ha!

Zafira 1.9CDTi never yet got better than 34MPG and thats driving like a fugging nun.

Vauxhall say this is normal. I have a print out to that effect.

Micra (T plate) 998cc = 37 MPG

Micra (L plate) 998 cc = 44 MPG

Both of the above driven like a spastic mentalist on amphetamine.

Im putting the difference down to the newness of the T reg not having bedded in properly yet.

Fancied going for a spin on the CZ, what with it being a nice day an' all. Went out to it to find that I'd left the ignition on all weekend and cooked the coil. Twat.

My ex's 307SW has the 90bhp diesel jobbie and it's a struggle and a half to get it over 36mpg. You can't even think about overtaking anything, and it's just tedious to drive unless you want to see Hummer-levels of economy.

In fact with 90bhp it's tedious anyway.

My Mondeo 2.0 petrol gets about 38-40 on average, not bad considering the size of it (it's longer and wider than a Scorpio, apparently).

Worst car I had for fuel was a Mercedes 190 2.6 auto, which is no surprise.

I've read Elise drivers getting 40 mpg quite regular which surprised me, although obviously the relative lightness helps. My Integra gets 30ish at a rough guess but my driving style varies quite a lot, and dont do much town work.

I can imagine that there will be a lot of trouble in the bars and pubs this evening.

Or indeed in Maccy D's, if you had the dubious pleasure of being in the one by Birmingham central library at about five to five this evening.

I made the apparent error of politely asking a particularly chippy pissed gobshite behind me in the queue to moderate his vile and abusive language in front of my son, to which reasonable request he seemed to take exception. He made various threats which seemed to revolve around crushing my face, then hit me round the head in front of a shop full of punters before walking out with a bagful of something I hope gives the little shit an imminent heart attack.

Everyone rushed to my aid. Not. The manager was fucking useless, and was more interested in selling more stuff, quicker. When Plod finally arrived, they left without talking to me because twat manager told them I'd gone. I was sitting 10ft away from the counter.

This does not end here.

What a pisser chaseracer, hope you're ok and your son isn't too shaken up.

Dickheads like that are just utter, utter scum and I hope he gets it back one day soon.

+1

And make sure McD's know what a waste of space their so called management are.

Sorry to hear about that chaseracer. This guy sounds like a complete dickhead. I hope he gets beaten up by a load of drunken youths.

I hope you can put it behind you and your son isnt too shaken up. Not a nice thing to see.

Thats one of the reasons I never really venture into Birmingham centre, I've never really felt comfortable around there.

What does the offender look like? :?

Posted

I'd like to say that's unbelievable but sadly I'm not surprised, I hope your ok and not hurt, I feel sorry for your son having to see behaviour like that.

Complain to maccy d's headoffice about the manager as well.
