Unless part of the problem is that you need transferable skills to be a potwasher? Surely just "I don't have to buy new plates every week" is proof enough ;)

My daughter just walked into a job cleaning hotel rooms and potwashing, only pays min wage but to her £300 a month is like winning the lottery. Unfortunately it's 10 miles away and buses don't run there evenings and Sundays, so goodbye lie-ins.

I think my record in my younger days was eight jobs in two years. Eventually, I just put it on my CV as 'various temporary work.' I didn't even bother stating that I'd been a gas meter reader for four days, nor that I lasted an entire four days at Mr Clutch...

Four days? I hope you got a long service medal.

I've been saving up an Imp fund for the last year to finally get it back on the road. It's spent many many years locked up in a garage doing nothing after 2 years of working on it most evenings and weekends to get it into a really good condition ready for rebuilding (thread here http://autoshite.com/topic/9817-hillman-imp-deg-532c/ )

Problem is, I have this fucking garden.

It looks like a large proportion of my Imp money is going to have to go towards this as its fooked innit. Plan was to level it out as it dropped by 3ft over the last 18ft towards the back but the cost for fucking soil is going to be a grand before we even start with turf FFS. Soil, you know dirt.

I thought a load of filler would cost fook all as surely people would be wanting shot of it but how do you collect it? You can't can you. The same people who charge you a fortune to take your shit away are making the same again giving your shit to someone else. Arses. I have worked out I need about 15 tonnes of the effing stuff.

I spent years doing nothing on my Imp as I had no money to sort it after putting all my money into a deposit for a house, I finally get my financial shizzle toge.......hang on this says it better.

I presume they gave friction plates out as medals every time a fitter just adjusted the cable to stop the thing slipping and then charged for a clutch anyway

Hillmanimp do you have or could you hire a decentish box trailer (preferably a tipper) If so drive round locally till you find someone digging footings for an extention, ask if they could dump it into your trailer rather than pile it for a grab wagon or load into a skip, either way you are saving them money.

Soil is heavy and occupies about 4x it's volume once dug up so don't go too wild loading the trailer. Sub soil unless it's clay will eventually start to grow stuff so don't get too hung up about the layers.

You could always buy a transit tipper.....

What I mean is that there are thousands of jobs out there, it might not be what you have done or what you would like to do but there is no need to be unemployed, I returned from living abroad with 400 euros in my pocket, and a wife and two children to support, I did whatever it took to pay the bills.

Dog no longer seems capable of jumping up onto sofa (at least when I'm watching!), don't know if it's old age (10) or obesity, though probably a bit of both. I also have to lift her into the car these days too.  Damn mutt looks at me and wags tail expecting me to mind read what she wants, which is either food/walk/out in the garden.  She also no longer stays in the bedroom at night preferring to nest on the lounge floor or the said sofa.

This suggests that you are paid in some way for the Arsehole service that you provide.

If this is the case then I may need to reconsider some of my career* choices.

Getting old, ours stopped going upstairs much about that age but would still happily sneak onto the sofa one leg at a time :)

Diet time if you can as carrying a bit less weight makes it easier on their joints

People who use the "pay at pump" fuel pumps and then go and do their weekly shop and address the cashier like they are a long lost relative in need of a full and comprehensive run down of lost time.

WHY?

Also elderly drivers who tap the brakes at 15second intervals because they are approaching 19mph. And rather than just give way to the right on roundabouts, they "give way" to any traffic in the vicinity of the roundabout and proceed to sit there flashing the brake lights on and off while they make extra sure.

(I'm possibly in a moody. Can you tell?).

Don't really know what to say by way of positivity or optimism Captain, think it's just a case of being in the right place at the right time, supposedly three of us were starting this morning, one phoned in last Thursday to say he had changed his mind and the other just didn't show up, like I said its Domestic Work in a Hospital but it's just above minimum wage, guaranteed hours and yet the best they can find is me, anyway, really hope something turns up for you soon,

That's the mad thing, I know so many people who've done a job for a day said "nah, don't like this" and gone away and got another job a week down the line!

You're probably closer to the mark with this than you know, if you're aiming for jobs that are below your skillset/previous employment level it can be as harmful, if not moreso, being over-qualified as under.

CV's aren't a one size fits all thing, they need tweaking to each job description, not to the point of blagging it, but if you've just finished a job as a rocket scientist and are applying to stack shelves in Asda then leave out the bit about rockets and focus on stuff that is relevant to Asda, dumb yourself down a bit if necessary, its only a stop-gap but they don't need to know that.

Good luck anyway, Agency's are bastards, if you apply for 10 jobs and get a reply back about 1 then thats not a bad ratio, so don't take the no's to heart and just apply for anything and everything.

Yeah, I've got a handful of CVs currently tailored to different levels of job. Naturally my most luck has been with stuff similar to my old job (machinery operation, production line, technical work), well paid but I need to actually land a job first! Interview for a place planned for tomorrow, was planned for last week but there were issues on their end, fingers crossed...

Captain_70's You could try this. It's not going to make you rich but it might give you some pocket money.

The idea is Amazon know there are tasks computers aren't very good at therefore they provide a service, which allows people to submit jobs to amazon. You then login and complete these tasks and you get paid for it.

It's all in $ but I presume there's no restriction on your country of origin. It can be typing in text from images, copying in text from websites etc.

There's articles on the best way to do it.

I believe other websites exist doing the same thing. If you can for example draw or have other talents you can sign up to fiverr to do logos or caricatures.

Woke up today to the "News about your ticket!" e-mail from the National Lottery

Great, back to bed for me, its finally happened!  I'll just check before ringing in and telling my boss to blow it up his ass...£2.10!  So the 'prize' on the euromillions is now less than the price of the ticket!  Shenanigans.

Bloody Aviva! I put my 6 years ncd down for the gooner as told on the website. Except that was apparently wrong as I can only use it once, and it was on the xantia. I got a snotty email.

Nae bother, I call up and get someone who doesn't really give a shit who tells me what I've done wrong and removes the ncd from the xantia. Cool. Updated documents say ncd mirrored on xant and gooner. Whatever.

Another snotty email. Mmm phone back, get someone who does sound like she gives a toss. Oh no sir, you can only have it on one car, hang on... I can give you an introductory discount for the xantia if you like... "I've been with you for 5 years, you sure?" yep, all good. Documents updated, 6 years on the gooner, introductory discount on the xantia. Fair enough. Documents updated to reflect this

Today, another snotty email, give us your proof by the 10th or else... Call up at 5.14...sorry sir, that team has gone home, call back tomorrow. There's going to be stern words tomorrow, if the xantia wasn't parked on what's probably legally a road id uninsure it but don't want to.

Ill go digging for every years documents tonight and call up at 11am. Then email them.

MrImp,try freecycle.

When i took out our front garden for car standing.I put it on freecycle and everything was collected.

Both good idea but places like Freecycle etc have a tonne here and a tonne there, I would need to get something to load it onto as I don't have owt at the mo, then manually load it etc and I honestly just don't have the time with work and childcare etc*.

I am having a change of plan though. I've just hired a cultivator for a couple of days. Originally the plan was to make the garden pretty much level with the house but I can probably dig it up near the house and lower the whole garden very slightly and (hopefully) greatly reduce the amount I need to spend on soil. Will need to lay turn at exactly the wrong time of year but hey ho, whilst it might suffer slightly this summer, it will be okay in the long run and will be better than we have now.

Hopefully this route will have less impact on the Imp fund. We've already spent a fortune this week on the gardens (£282 plants, £160 tools, £100 gravel, £250 fencing) so don't want to go too crazy on soil as still have 2 patios to lay, all the plants and a shed to get.

We'll see what happens.

Hopefully once this is done and the kitchen and the conservatory roof, I will be able to spend some time on my cars. Fingers crossed.

If they are flat roofs and you are on a budget the GRP (fibreglass) kits are good value and very simple to do.

No, its a pitched roof. I looked into putting a proper roof on and it was thousands. Not just a few grand either. If it was £3k, hell, for the return of having a room that was usable in the summer it would be worth it but they want silly money. It's probably not much more to knock it down and build a proper extension.

My plan is to insulate and plasterboard it on the inside and whack some vinyl fake slate on the outside (for aesthetics only).

I don't have any photos of the conservatory but if you want a gander, I understand the previous owners who inherited the house from their parents used to film gay porn in it, so if you have a look at some man-on-man bongo movies you might be able to spot it.

Whilst I have not seen them, I believe the films they used to film were 'UK Street Scallies' as I found a video recorder cassette stuffed down the back of one of the radiators in the living room with that written on.....I threw it in the bin at the time as a) didn't want to see it, b ) have nothing to play it on c) really, really didn't want to see it.

This is why its referred to as the 'Pornservatory' amongst friends. Its now my sons playroom.

We have thoroughly cleaned and decorated it.

I've probably mentioned this before but in my old house my garden was a shit tip. it had no grass and just a load of big chucky stones mixed in with piles of concrete. I'd tried clearing it up but the cement chucky mix was hard work.

I had an Audi coupe sitting outside I'd bought but wasn't really using it. Next door was getting their garden done and the guy doing it knocked the door and asking if I was selling the Audi. I said how about sorting my garden and 400 quid (or there abouts).

Deal, they rolled in with their mini digger, cleared it out, turfed it and re-layed the patio and gave me 400 quid, Best deal every, Mrs C's face was a picture when she came home. Not only was the garden done the Audi was gone.

Last summer the fence between our back garden and out next door neighbour's garden collapsed.2 panels and posts rotten.

Talking to nextdoor we agreed on a whole new fence, around 12 meters long.Due to work, holidays and life,it had to wait till the start of October.

The old fence was ripped out the ground prepped with other work the bill was around £1000,When this was said to nextdoor,we got "I have no money,I not paying you want the fence you pay for it". So we did.

The fence posts were put on her side as she wasn't paying she could have the posts.Mrs V8 stained the fence brown.

Fast forward to today,I look out of the bathroom window, nextdoor has been painting her side of the fence, bright blue, this has ran between the planks and down our side, streaking down the brown stain.

MrsV8 is livid, but what to do next,we could speak to next door but she is a arty farty modern hippy type that is thick as fuck.

So i supose we will just repaint our side again.

Posted

You paid for the fence, it's your property (regardless of whose land it stands on) so painting it without your permission is criminal damage.

Posted

Setting fire to the fence, although amusing, would be arson, so best not! You could simply take it down if you wanted.

Just read that a Swiss company will be seeking out people who run Kodi and stream on their Amazon fire sticks. Are they really going to be able to police it?

At least it's getting painted so should last a while. Paint your side again though.

I wouldn't have thought you can go after people just for using Kodi, as it's a perfectly legit piece of software.

It can however be used to do illegal stuff - the same as torrent apps, the same as a web browser if you want to be pedantic.

However if you connect to dodgy sites and stream dodgy stuff, then yes they can grab your IP address which will identify your ISP. They then write to your ISP and ask who was using that address on whatever day. And then you get a letter asking for money.

They tend to make most of their money from people settling before it goes to court, especially if they caught you downloading Big Tit Grannies Vol 7. It's lucrative, to the point that two american lawyers went as far as filming their own porn, seeding it to torrent sites, working out who had downloaded it, and then writing to them. Saved that tedious "waiting for a client to instruct you" mess.
