The grumpy thread

Visited a friend at GOSH on Tuesday afternoon whose daughter had gone through an 8 hour heart operation 2 weeks ago.  Things were stable and progressing but slowly and the girl was still under sedation.  Got home from working on the Oxford yesterday to receive the news that she'd had a cardiac arrest in the morning and couldn't be resuscitated.  Funeral was this afternoon. She was five and three quarters.  Pretty grim all round really.

Awful.

When it's a child it's even worse.

I'm not sure putting "I am there to defend the corner, it's their job to take the place" is a good idea on an insurance claim form or Police Statement!

No, I'd phrase it as 'I was turning into the roundabout when the car partly behind me decided they'd prefer to drive into my car by changing lanes in an unsafe manner rather than follow the road'.

I have actually managed to get some leave - as there are so few of us it is difficult to get leave.

However the only thing I am thinking about is work - what I will be going back to etc.

Sure this is why I have breathing issues.

Weld sparks in the ear are the reason I wear earplugs when welding!

Must admit I'm not missing the welding at all......

 they are always fun, as are the buggers that miss the mask and land on the top of your head. I used to have a square of nomex I wore under the mask when welding but I have misplaced it sadly.

I got one in the top of my head too, came out six months later when scratching.

MrsV8,wanted to go to one of the out of town retail parks this morning.

It is a nice drive over, through pit villages and farm land and new housing estates.

Coming off 1 roundabout,a police astra estate has the road i want to continue on closed.Turn around and take a longer route, that brings you back to the same road further along.

This is again closed by 3 police Audi squad cars, but we could turn right to carry along.Anyway we were able to look along the road were the police were.

A mangled BMX bike and some blankets lying on the road, raised that looked like there was something under them, covered over. The police measuring the distance between the bike and the blankets.

Ambulances heading in the direction.

The local facebook page, is telling people not to head thay way due to a accident between a car and a bike.

Something similar going on near here. It happened a few hours ago and there are still fire engines arriving, it must be some mess.

Had one of those friday. Loooooooooooong straight wide road so I went past some doddering fucknugget doing 40-45 in a 60. Lots of horn blasting & lights flashing etc before I was even alongside them. I had my parents in my car with me & my dad whos near 80 said 'what a moron, they shouldn't be driving' :)

FFS, fuck nuggets.

It does seem that overtaking has become taboo for some reason.  I regularly have to overtake 6 or 7 cars in one hit - plenty of clear road and they're all up the arse of the car in front so obviously want to be travelling faster, but for some reason they all just sit there like fugging lemons.  I seem to be getting honked / flashed at more and more by overtaken drivers too - my standard response is to buzz my window down and make a rude sign at them.

At least there seems to be a decline of the "Oh no, someone is overtaking me!  I better speed up." types.  At least outside of motorways.

Prob similar to the local wannabe gangster I've had this evening on his bmx no lights giveing me abuse from down street as I had nerve to pass him & then pull in (indicating ) outside shops,

I sooooooo hope that one of the latest batch dos this & gets his fucking knee caps blown off by a genuine gangster.

As I'm sick of society haveing to put up with these little bastards that the law would rather protect/side with.

I can understand/empat6with people who go postal.

Some idiot fucknugget around here tried that game a few years ago, except he did it to a ratty old black BMW. Now I wouldn't want to suggest anything against the surely law abiding owner of said car, but according to those naughty coppers who make stuff up about everybody he may have been a bit of a naughty boy. Anyway fucknugget was a well known tosser who used to get abusive at people on a regular basis, we haven't seen him around here since. Rumour has that he now lives in Leicester and that he may reside in one spot permanently if he steps foot in the rough area of town around here.

These twats do not seem to realise that there are some seriously nasty people out there and sooner or later their luck will run out and then they are the first to run to the police.

Urban dual carriage way with roundabouts. Me outside lane, her inside lane at roundabout. Instead of following her lane round she cuts straight into mine as I'm alongside her. I had to slam the brakes on and blast the horn after which she wobbled around and got back on her side of the road.

I take it this happens elsewhere but round hear its nearly every effing day.

Correct, this actually happens quite a lot, almost a standard proceedure for many road users. People simple cut across the roundabout instead of following the lanes. It happens everywhere.

Sadly this also something that has just become part of the norm in some parts of the country. I had to deal with these Jeremy Kyle reject twats on a regular basis when I lived in Birmingham.

This sort of thing doesn't happen often enough unfortunately Tamworthy.

I would suggest AS starts its own mafia to deal with twats like that, but then the sort of 'staff cars' we'd use wouldn't be able to keep up with the BMXs...

I used to work with a chap in his 50s who was given a load of abuse by 2 blokes wandering in front of him coming out of the gym. Unfortunately for those 2 he happened to have been a rather good boxer in his time and laid them both out.

It's definatley a national thing, we are blessed with many a 40mph dual carriageway roundabout in Stevenage and there are ones 90% of people straightline from the left lane. One that really does my head in as near the middle has warning paint which is slippery as fuck when it's damp so you have no wiggle room at all. I've given up and don't even cover my horn anymore just drop back and make sure I'm not next to anyone on the tighter roundabouts these days.

An old fella at work, now retired got mugged by two little chavs on his way home one night.

He got back on his bike and began to pedal home when the reality of what just happened sank in.

"I'm not avin this" he thought and pedalled after them and put his army boxing skills to use.

Asked if he called the police he replied "er, best not. I think I did a fair bit of damage"

Justice prevails.

not so, we would have to use a modern as the staff car so as not to damage something "valuable"

Some bellend in a lorry has run into the back of my mums car. It was apparently at some traffic lights, he just set off into the back of her!

she's OK enough to drive home etc but this is the last thing she needs as she's a bad neck already (from a previous time someone ran into the back of her at some lights!)

I'm a strange combination of worried sick about her and pissed off at her because the only reason this happened is because she decided to drive to fuckin Manchester (from Rotherham) during rush hour to look at a puppy on a whim. FFS

I am quite shocked as the area where i live had a reputation for being a bit naughty (but so was the area i grew up) i have only ever had cross words with one person in the 9 years of living here and restrained one pissed up lad because he was trying to fight his mate and when he wasnt having any started throwing wheelie bins at my vulnerable elderly neighbours house at 3am, so he met the pavement and slept it off in the cells, everyone walks past and gives the nod of acknowledgement in a respectful manner
