You would think there would be some qualifying criteria other than just a guy going "classic...not classic"

 

But it does seem as though that is the case.

 

Classic policies also seem to be more likely to shaft you with huge admin/cancellation fees if you don't let them run the full term or try to change cars mid policy, so not always ideal if you change cars a lot.

 

At the risk of sounding like a FJ salesman, I only ever bother with them for my classic policy needs, as said above a friend of mine had no end of grief with Lancaster, Flux have never provided me with a decent quote in my entire life, and FJ quote online which not all classic providers do.  Plus they have reasonable mileage quotas and the policy 'add-ons' are nice too.  eg for £10 extra I can use it for commuting, another £10 and I get to keep the wreck if its a write-off without having to buy it back off them, no hassle agreed valuation etc etc.  You just choose whichever options you want to add after getting the base quote and its a fixed price.

At the risk of sounding really unhelpful (and this is not meant to cause further distress) it would perhaps it would be best to just lose the troll.

Hirst didn't think there was much content on the main board so didn't bother posting much on it.

 

He left as quietly as possible and I think he succeeded- it's taken this long for people to notice.

And yeah, there was a lot more going on behind the scenes than what transpired here.

 

Having been on a self inflicted exile of this board over the last few weeks I've been trawling all lonely through  various other car forums. I can confidently say there's not much to complain about here.

The board is fast paced, interesting and on the whole populated by nice sensible people contrary to a lot of the boards out their, which are slow and or self interested. 

 

I spend way too much time on here, something i want to reel in a bit. While I had a couple of weeks off I fixed 2 of my broken cars and dragged the really broken one a bit closer to being roadworthy again. I want to do more of this.

FJ person actually phoned me back, she said that they couldn't add the 309 to the Golf policy as the 309 didn't meet their criteria for a classic car. I disagree but didn't argue. I then asked about the quotation for the 309 on a 'modern' policy. They weren't able to do this either.

 

So, the 309 does not qualify for either classic insurance OR modern insurance cover with FJ. They do seem to just see it as a low value old car (more or less this person's words). She said that they (FJ) were reviewing their terms and conditions but wouldn't/couldn't say in what way.

 

I feel that this does not bode well for those of us who like shite older cars.

I won't mention insurance after this posting but I thought I should let you know about what happened with a quote for the red 1992 309GL.

 

FJ person actually phoned me back, she said that they couldn't add the 309 to the Golf policy as the 309 didn't meet their criteria for a classic car. I disagree but didn't argue. I then asked about the quotation for the 309 on a 'modern' policy. They weren't able to do this either.

 

So, the 309 does not qualify for either classic insurance OR modern insurance cover with FJ. They do seem to just see it as a low value old car (more or less this person's words). She said that they (FJ) were reviewing their terms and conditions but wouldn't/couldn't say in what way.

 

I feel that this does not bode well for those of us who like shite older cars.

Back in March, my best mate at work (who was on the same team as me, and part of the reason I applied to join this team) moved away to Durham for pastures greener (and more pay). He's now engaged (admittedly they've been together 6 years now) and buying a house.

 

A nice Romanian girl in my department is finishing her internship tomorrow and moving to the Electronics Research people over at the other side of campus, to work with her boyfriend in there. She was a right laugh to have about.

 

Then, I found out today that a lovely Slovakian girl in another team (who I think kind of fancied me and I kind of fancied her, but I decided to leave it at that because I work with her) is moving home to Slovakia in 3 weeks.

 

Glad I'm already in the process of job-hunting now. This place is turning into a sausage party. Well, and there's also the fact I can't afford to live somewhere on my own on my current salary, and other important stuff like that...

 

In summary; majorly losing my work mojo, and my enthusiasm for this place.

Try insuring older cars for business use. Options are VERY limited. I'm now paying a ton of money, though some companies did offer to take even more. The modern car insurers just flat out refused to cover anything over 25 years old, business use or not. Most classic insurers want you to do sod all miles and are horrified of the idea of you actually using your car.

Or, kill a number of birds (poor choice of phrase probably) with one stone and move to Slovakia?  Many attractive ladies, cheap homes, and we can't have too many AS foreign correspondents in Eastern European countries.

 

Either way I hope it doesn't dent your enthusiasm for this place too much - at the risk of sounding patronising, I know you haven't been around that long but you've added lots and would be very missed.  Hope your mojo comes back soon.

Sorry, chief, only just noticed your above post. It's difficult because some trolls are careful enough to be subtle, or to just pick a fight with one person, then be nice to everyone else. I don't for a minute say user X is wrong about user Y, but it wouldn't be unheard of to get complaints from people just because they've decided they don't like the other person, if that makes sense?

I agree completely that it's not as simple as it seems, but when said troll posts very little car related and just shit stirs and is offensive to numerous people then it really seems a shame to see someone like Hirst go when said troll remains, even if (for now) he seems to be towing the line. I think Hirst was premature in leaving, not least as the saddo type that trolls are see this as a 'victory' which it isn't.

I worded my post badly. I meant this place as in where I work / live. Not THIS forum. Yeah, ambiguous wording is ambiguous.

 

Also, I'm a massive pussy when it comes to women, I'll just let sleeping dogs lie and other over-used phrases. Those suggesting I up sticks and move to another country for a girl who may or may not fancy me and may just be acting polite are mental.

I tried to watch Speed with Guy Martin this evening, but 4OD has just become an ad-riddled mess. One and a half fucking minutes of ads before the program actually starts? No ta.
