Captain70s - Far be it from me to judge, stick my nose in or tell you what to do but if your working 6 days a week and have nothing to show for it you might need to sit down and look at all your out goings, look at saving on phone / gas / leccy bills and cancel unnecessary standing orders.

I have done this before and easily ended up saving £50/£60 a month. Not life changing but still £500/£600 a year.

Unfortunately I know where my money is going, I tend to spend a weeks worth of wages each month purely on car repairs alone.

From the 1300 needing a new alternator, exhaust and swallowing £25 worth of oil per week before the clutch hydraulics and starter motor dying simultaneously to the Civic eating £350 worth of new exhaust and now needing a service/timing belt ASAP. Any vehicle I own seems to cost an absolute bomb to keep going, it's a fucking pain.

I do need to keep better track of my finances. Looking at my bank account also suggests I forgot to pay my council tax for January.

I thought I was rich this month as it has ended and I still have cash. Unfortunately, I am NOT an accountant and have forgotten an important bill that requires paying rather soon (like a week ago!) and so I am not rich, I am a financial buffoon!

Oxfam...  quit their job there in frustration.

I did that too, was a volunteer and the manager was an absolute airhead, for a while, aside from the locking up I was practically running an Oxfam shop by myself on Saturdays... at age 16. Oxfams are bloody stupid places and way, way overpriced.

Also, they need to learn nobody wants Neil Sedaka LPs.

Nobody.

Managing finances is a full time job in itself, though interesting at the same time. I *just* manage to scrape by but this also means holding out on some bills to pay others. I also have family support which helps, especially as I have Lady_Sterling to support in another country.

Cars have now taken the bottom of the pile personally, I have driven it until it nearly broke or FTP. Yes, I could get the Sterling a new rad, service and probably sills, but right now there are more important things that need supporting. Hence I am very thankful for the E46 coming along at just the right time.

I like charity shops but like everywhere else, it's down to you whether you want to buy the items or not. I've seen things I'd have loved to have but were simply a bit too expensive for me to justify. I've heard of the overpaid Oxfam and it is a shame that larger organisations get to a point where they operate like a private company.

Captain 70s:  I'm on a seriously meagre wage and the only way to keep afloat - aside from house sharing - is to keep an utterly boring Excel spreadsheet and an eagle eye on my bank account.  I plan out all my finances 2 months in advance and it works the vast majority of the time even when surprise bills jump out at me.  If you fancy a template drop me a PM and I'll furnish you with said thing.  It can make life easier and it's really easy to maintain, takes all of five minutes once a week.  I totally empathise with the being skint and working all the hours thing, every time I just about get myself into a situation where I'm putting cash away something (often car related) jumps out at me and gobbles up all my cash.

Giving my missus a lift is a nightmare, especially when she starts at 7.30 and I start at 8.00. I like to be in a minimum of 20-30 minutes early so I can have a brew and relax, she wants to be there nano-second before she starts. Which wouldn't be so bad if our works weren't 8 miles apart and she didn't take forever getting ready.

Anyhow, I just make up for it on the days I'm not starting at 8.00 by taking ages to get out of the house, then driving really slowly.

My phone's rooted (well worth doing), I have installed AdAway and Adblock Plus. No ads on Tapatalk, YouTube or Firefox.

AdAway doesn't work on my girlfriend's S5 so she gets constant Clearblue adverts on YouTube. Ideal for someone who's infertile.

I just use the basic mobile version of the site (iPhone, but I guess it's the same on other phones) and it's fine, easy to use with no adverts.

Motorcycle breakers.

No good pricing exhaust cans at £100 when they look like somebody has battered them with a sledge hammer and then finished them off with an angle grinder.

Do us all a favour and just bin the bastards.

The spoiler I ordered for the A6 has not turned up - I ordered it at the end of November.

When I complained I was told it would arrive mid - Jan.

Bollocks to it now - tomorrow I will let barclaycard know and they can get me a refund.

If the item is not in stock then don't take people's money.

To put things into perspective, a certain spring for a certain oldsmobile arrived from the USA.

Knowing my luck, my item is probably coming from Syria.

^^. The Oldsmobile spring did arrive, yes. But it was ordered in November and arrived mid January. Came 'surface mail' apparantly, which I assume is by boat. Other parts from USA have arrived within a week. The best being three days! All depends really....Customs can hold things up a fair bit too....

It was a pattern part that was replaced, three years old and rotten through.

Having said that it was my decision to go for the stainless so was most likely the worst thing I could have done!

I have mentioned before on here the simple guy who lives a few doors down the road. He had a ZX which he painted all the windows matt black....

Anyway, its been getting more and more stripped over the last few days....wheels off, rear axle off, front suspension off, the dashboard is out.....all these parts are lying at the side of his driveway and the shell is on axle stands.

I walked past this afternoon and he has got the engine out and had it standing on a table in front of the car. He was busy hacking away it the head ports with a rough file for some reason.

I guess thats that fucked then. It probably had nothing wrong with it.

I will need to pluck up the courage to speak to the loon and make an offer to buy the alloys (205 gti 1.9 speedlines) before he hacksaws them in half or something daft like that.

Parky jnr was a bit off this morning. He was going to school but called Mrs P to say he was a bit off but would go in a bit later. Ok says Mrs P and she calls the school to say he is off colour but will be in.

She called later in the day, no answer so assumed he had gone in....

Anyhow, turns out he didn't go in at all and claimed not to have heard the phone, or checked his mobile during the day. The school is pretty Dickensian about this stuff so I expect to be ordered in for a chat in the next few days which will impact my pay. Just on the train home now debating appropriate punishment....

Not happy or impressed at all.

Set off to Sheffield with idiot sister at 7:15am, arrived 8 minutes early. So I can estimate journey times wimmin!

That's where good news ends. Retina is still glued back on in her eye, but now the lens has moved so another operation when the eye has calmed down. If she doesn't end up blind it will be a miracle.

My head. I am suffering chronic from what I'm sure other shiters suffer from,ie dont know what I want, want everything phase.I'm not that financially blessed,so ride a 74 Honda C90,which has doubled in value since I've owned it (I couldn't buy a replacement) this is fine for my day to day needs, but Mrs wants me to get a car,but I don't want tyhge expense, unless it was something quirky, like a trabant. Then I decide that an MZ would fill my DDR 2 stroke needs, and enable me to travel further than the county borders, then I think I just need to keep the Cub,but I get bored,so wasn't something else! Grrrrr!

Unbelievable, some knobjockey has just reversed (hard) into my Discovery smashing the headlight, bending the bumper, bending the wing, the bonnet and looks like the inner wing too. He's got a scuffed bumper and broken light lens.

Got home today and there is a Rover 75 parked half on the path opposite two driveways.I parked a good ten feet behind locked up and went into the house.Unknown to me matey whose drive the Rover is parked opposite can't get on the drive so parks infront of the Rover.20 minutes after going inside there is an almighty crash I look out and the Rover is half imbedded in my hedge and half into my car. Thought he was about to F..off so I rushed outside. "Oh, I must've hit it falling off the kerb" Eh, I heard the revving before the crunch.I told him he's written my car off and actually this bit of tarmac we are standing on and his car was on is called a foot-path.It is for pedestrians. The part of tarmac my car is parked on is called a road and that is where you should park your car not half on a foot-path. So the nearside rear wing of this Rover has caused all that damage to the offside front on my car. He didn't know his insurance company but I've just checked MID and the car is insured.

Couldn't believe the damage. That almost iron girder of a front bumper is flat to the front valance.

Bloody hell, I knew those 75s were tough but didn't think they could take on a Disco and win!  Looks like it's insurance and eye/breath test for the Rover-owner.  Hope you can get a replacement for the Disco without too much grief.
