Bought a couple of sets of M+S tyres for the Disco, what with the Daily Fail warnings of impending Snow Chaos

Took them along to my work's local tyre depot to get 1 of the monkeys to fit them for me

No-one about so ended up asking someone with a tie for a price

"Your tyres, put onto loose steel wheels?"

Yes mate.No rush,just before 4.30 when I finish

"£18.50....Each.....plus Vat.........."

.............How much??

" When are you dropping them off?"

You are joking,aren't you??

10 mins up the road to the local Polish run "garage"

£20 the lot inc balancing

Oh dearage re the Volvo.

Oddly my housemate at Uni drove his Metro City-x into a double decker bus and wrote off the bus whilst his car got repaired. I suspect the bus company were up to no good TBH and pulling a fast one somewhere for that to happen though.

Thanks for the concern chaps, the Autoshite community spirit really is heartwarming.

Not sure what'll happen re. the bus. At least one door had become dislodged and there was a mangled panel just before the wheelarch. Was expecting to hear from the firm but nothing as yet and the insurance peeps are now dealing with it so anything goes. With luck it'll be a pair of doors from Dunsmore's and a sheet of aluminium. If not then writing off a whole bus is quite an achievement.

A shit achievement, but quite an achievement nonetheless.

Shit Ade! Sorry to hear that, not nice. As long you are Ok, thats all that matters. Metal be be fixed/bent back into shape/bodged etc...

If you really are stuck, there is an MOT'd Rover 827 Coupe down here in the West Midlands that can be used if needs be.

I seem to have lost my FaceBollocks account thing. If anyone gets a request from Alf Bert, it's me equally anyone daft enough to read the absolute drivel I post on there feel free to friend request me and all that caper.

Ah, the filter thing said you'd done one.

Ade, you'd be welcome to the Charade but my colleague cagged the clutch.

Regarding TYRE_DISASTER this morning, I've managed to stuff the C4 near the only drop kerb on the street, so I can get the spare on tomorrow morning provided it isn't hoying it down \ pitch black \ full of shrieking kids.

BT suck.

Took months for them to bill me for the broadband when I joined. Had to ask repeatedly for that to be sorted as I knew I'd get hit with a huge bill one month and the website wouldn't let me change call packages or anything because it thought I wasn't a customer. Got hit with a huge bill when it finally got sorted.

Was a customer for nearly a year before they sent me the £100 Sainsburys voucher, and that was after applying for it about 15 times and complaining many times.

Took 4 days to get my broadband back on when my line died a week or so back, but 7 before they told me it was back on.

In that time, I apparantly made 12 phonecalls on my landline that was totally b0110xed, including ringing the speaking clock.

I get about 19 MB on Infinity on a good day, but the wireless is virtually unusable. It's fine for a while then throughput drops to dial up speed.

The YouView box suffers from amnesia and maybe records 10% of what I ask it to, on a good week. The internet/router drops out when you're watching on demand stuff and takes 2 or 3 minutes to sort itself back out.

I'd complain, but I've had to complain about everything just to get what I'm paying for so far. Counting down the days to leave them. Going to go with TalkTalk, I might as well not be paying through the nose to be treat like shite.

KEEP AWAY FROM TALKTALK... the trouble you had with BT will be nothing compared to the pile of shit @ Talktalk

When I used to work for stagecoach buses were patched together from total wrecks. They will have an entire team of cack handed minimum wage drones to tack on missfitting bits of metal with rivit guns. This only added to my suspicions about the Metro writing off the bus as it probably only caused a small amount of damage compared to the stuff I inflicted on buses with other buses just driving around the yard like a lunatic.

Hopefully you will get the Volvo mended and its just superficial damage.

Thanks again for the support and offers of wheels on loan.

The RAC finally managed to send a contractor to collect the car only 23 hours and 45 minutes after the accident so their response time hasn't improved much.

The actual contractor was spot on and was pretty gutted himself to be picking it up as it drove so nicely. Haven't been able to check the chassis legs under the bonnet though so no idea if there's hidden damage.

Going to ring the insurance about buying it for salvage but not sure what will happen.

Ah. If that's being taken off to their depot, then this may already be a problem. I would always push for having a crashed car taken back to your house as a first step if possible. They only whisk it off to their depot because they can charge something stupid like £40 a day just for having a car in their yard. A lot of cars these days are written off before they even see a bodyshop.

Glad to hear your ok, the ice on the road looks really bad indeed. Shame about the Volvo, looks a really clean car indeed. Super clean for winter time.

I've ended up with this;

20141208_1029531.jpg

Dark morning, first snow of the new winter and descending a small hill. Applied the brakes gently to slow for the junction at the end and hit black ice. Car goes fucko down the hill into the bus I was trying to slow for in the first place, managing to tap it twice before coming to rest on a small grass verge.

Cue furious bus driver who takes a moment to realise what has just happened but turned out to be a decent sort. As did the elderly couple in a nearby house who offered cups of tea whilst waiting for recovery by the insurance. Still drove fine the short distance it was moved but didn't fancy trying to get it home again.

Sorry folks. :-(

Bugger sorry to see that. Hope you are ok?

andy will fix that nae borrer, and some angle iron will see the vulva shipshape again

Ian's right.

If you want to have a pop at repairing it, get it back PRONTO.  And if they give you any bollocks, remind them that no money has been exchanged, ownership has not transferred and it is still YOUR CAR to dispose of as YOU wish.

Scrap value solid ovlov with good body/fucked everything else and a mega swappage session over a weekend?

I'm sorry for your loss. As per the svm rules of karma does this mean someone else's Volvo will fix or break itself now?

Plusnet. I like Plusnet. Yorkshire based call centre and the service is pretty good too.

Very hard to fault them. Been with them a year or so now, think it's only cut off 3 maybe 4 times at most. When I was with Tesco it's no exaggeration to say if it only cut off 5 times in one day it'd be a right result.

Posted

I used to be with Plusnet and would agree that the service was pretty faultless, you could always ring them up and someone would actually answer the phone too, amazing as it sounds.

Posted

Poor old Beeb, that's a sad thing to happen to a really smart car.

Another vote of confidence for Plusnet.  I have been with Virgin, BT and TalkTalk, they are progressively worse in that order, with TalkTalk being ridiculously bad at sorting anything out, super-flaky service and call centre staff who don't understand the most basic of requests.  So far so good with Plusnet, sensible price, decent staff and a really stable internet/phone.

My 340 started first turn today. Never been known to do that.

Sorry to hear about your accident Ade and I hope you can get it back to help some of the other SVM fleet.

Another happy plusnet user here as well.

That's a real shame about the car but the main thing is no one was hurt. Volvo karma had been partially addressed as I've put two new Toyos on the 940 this morning but there's a long way to go yet, you'll have to get another one.

+1 plusnet changed from virgin

had one prob when it was down for two days not long after we changed but no prob since and they like a bit of footy banter :D

ps rml - go fetch ovlov - unless you get no fault sorted quick itll be 12 quid possibly plus vat a day

which you hopefully point at the bus lot but get it rescued

Just been putting outside Christmas lights up and realised that all the leads and plugs are still in the e30 since last year. Must mean I haven't touched it since January,oh well at least it's serving a useful purpose keeping the wiring dry.

The contents of my soul dropped out of my anus on Sunday when, upon driving into the block of council garages where my Mk3 Cortina Estate is currently dissolving, I couldn't see it's padlock attached to the door anymore....

Sure enough,a wanker/some wankers (what is the correct term for a group of wankers by the way? A throw of wankers? A shuffle of wankers? Coldplay?? Who knows...) had chomped one of the lock loops off my brenton bolt and got inside.

Nothing had gone or looked like it had been fiddled with but my stomach is still turning. Whilst my Cortina has no engine. Or sill. Or N/S/R wing. Or engine. Or value...etc..etc, I fear for it's safety. I have removed both front wheels and dropped the shell onto a rim and fitted another padlock to the remaining lock loop. Did some door to door sleuthing to no avail and have yet to reach the council's Crisis Lie-n.

I have a suspicion and no alot else.

People are strange eh??
