SambaS, lost Mum in similar circumstances.  It doesn't hit home at first, it's all so unreal.  It still is, and it'll be the little things that trip you up.  No shame in crying for the loss of someone you care about, if they're important for any reason it's entirely normal.

Shitty Crossland fuel filter.

I've changed filters loads of times and never had an issue. Today on the Merc, I changed the fuel filter as I usually do, fill the new one with injector cleaner and fit like the old one. After doing this though the car wouldn't start, I could see air in the fuel line, arse. After lots of pissing around I eventually got it started by cracking an injector open to let the air out. Ok, done, no. Air still in the line and the car wouldn't rev, it would just about idle but no more. The only thing I had changed was the fuel filter, so I filled the old one up with cleaner and put it back on ... The injector needed cracking to get the remaining air out, but after that the car ran fine.

End result after nearly 2hrs ... the old filter is back on the car.

The shitty Crossland filter did not seal properly so was letting air in to the system. Mann filters next time.

+1, cheapo filters are only a couple of quid cheaper than decent ones (e.g. Mann, Hengst, Mahle) so it really is false economy to go for them !

Crossland used to make decent filters about 10 years ago but like everything in the pattern car parts market price became more important than quality. It only takes 1 customer to breakdown due to a crap filter and I will take my business elsewhere. I then went onto unipart who were good but are no more. The company who have taken over our local branch sell some right shite and it has gone from spending a couple of grand a month to less than a hundred. They never learn putting price before quality.

A couple of weeks ago I sent a parcel to a friend in South Africa with UPS.  The value of the package was about £250, and UPS charged an unpleasant, but 'competitive' as we went through a price comparison/shipping agent, £70-odd for the delivery.

 

Now it's arrived in SA, but UPS is refusing to release it until we pay an additional £200 in unspecified 'brokerage' fees.

 

Can anyone help me understand how that's not 1) in breach of both basic contract law and the Unfair Contract Terms Act, since I have a piece of paper saying customs brokerage is free and there is nothing more to pay, and 2) criminal extortion?

 

Did everyone see this from Skizzer? Sounds like the stereotypical fraud associated with that continent to me. Wouldn't expect it from UPS !

Busy town centre's on a Saturday afternoon, remind me never again to take the car, especially into busy car parks with old folk and women willy nilly reversing without looking, twice within a minute my girlfriends car was nearly crunched, only sounding the horn made these planks aware that we were there !!
