Euro car parts are fucking shite, they ALWAYS give you the wrong bits, every flipping time without fail. I expect it from them and go in armed as best I can wih part number information, picture of the old part, number of teeth on timing belts etc so I can make a decent job of checking whatever shite they give me before I leave the shop. They still get the better of me at least 50% of the time though leaving me to find the fupping ID of the wheel bearing theyve sold me is wrong and now i don;t have a working car to go back to the shop in. SHITEHAWKS.

Old Man had this issue too.

'I've bought a PAS belt for the Civic, but they've given me the wrong one, it's an aircon belt..'

'Where did you buy it?'

'Euro Car Parts'

I just started laughing and walked off.

He changed it anyway, got the right part number and went back for the right one.

Halfords used to be like that. My car had conked out once, went to get a distributor cap (or whatever it was) and got the 'yeah, yeah it's DEFINITELY the right one.'

Rode home on my bike, it was the wrong bleeding bit, so had to go back again for the right one. Just to help* matters, as I was riding home again (past the Twirl of Hay pub in Chester, if anyone knows it) I thought I heard someone call my name so looked across to the left. At this juncture I spotted a strange shadow to my right and promptly rode straight into a lamp post. Naturally, the pub car park/outside play area was full and every fucker was howling with laughter so I had to 'do that man thing' by pretending it didn't hurt, getting back on and riding up the road a bit where they couldn't see me then nearly crying with the pain.

0/1,507 WONT DO AGAIN.

Ordered a rad from them yesterday as a last resort as they were the only factors that held one. Supposed to be out on the 3pm van yesterday. Half 5 comes so I give them a ring " there has been a cock up " and will be in tomorrow. So now I'm working on my birthday. Yay.

I've only used Euro Crap Parts once and to be fair, they did have the the right part. I did have to ring three stores before they would actually admit to having what I wanted and go to Hamilton on the bus to get it so still quite shit.

There's a big firm in Belfast called Component Distributors, and they supply motor factors. I had ordered an air filter for the Jaaaag, and EAMF had duly added it to their order from CD. I happened to be in EAMF when the order arrived and the guys showed me the delivery note. CD hadn't had the Jag filter, so they sent a "substitute", namely the next part number along. Which was for a BMW 120d. Apart from the fact that it was actually an air filter, it could scarcely have been more wrong: the Jag one is rectangular and flat, the BMW one is cylindrical.

CD were also the suppliers of the rogue rear box for my Rover. It was exactly the right shape, but about 10% too small in every dimension. Nobody ever figured out what happened there.

ECP failed miserably getting me a headlamp for a 2004 Fiesta TDCi, so much so that I bit the bullet and went to a Ford dealer.

ECP seem to be OK if you order their stuff online for delivery. I usually use carpartsforless though. Bang on, every time.

There's a little motor factors in paisley I use and they always seem to be at least 10% cheaper than euro car parts and always make sure you have the right bit.

Went into my local parts place and got 'Naada' parts record for my SAVVY FrontWheelbearings + Clutch.

Hmmm... how about [2x] Chevy AVEO front bearings + D4F Clio Clutch?

'That'll be £90!'

.... I'll be buying a WIX WL7134 [Honda/Mitzzie] 87MM long oil filter soon, too

Is there a more hateful modern than the Landrover Evoque?

They are like cockroaches: every time I see one I want to squish the fucker.

I can't bring myself to google-image search for a pic, but we all know what a BMW looks like, don't we?  Doesn't really matter which, any will do, but if pushed I'd happily start with the entire 1-series.  So the answer to your question is a resounding YES, a whole range of the feckers!

Yes, there is.i passed a white new mini countryman thing last night on my way to sunny Chester. As it was waiting to pull out from a side road it actually looked like an evock sitting there!

I've been for a drive in an Ewok, and while it wasn't my cup of tea, the design team got all the bits right for their target demographic. Likewise, The Bloated Impostor.

I wouldn't have either one, but I hope they continue to make and sell plenty of 'em. Think I'll wait about 5 years for a used XE Type.

Have we forgotten the Juke and Qashqrap?

I quite like the Evoque, or the look of it at least.

For anyone that give a rats chuff, I can conclude the "Citroen that broke down at the garage while having unrelated bodywork done" saga.

I got a new clutch actuator for a reasonable-ish price from Ebay Germany and it turned up yesterday. Its a 5 minute job to swap it out then reset the brains with the diagnostic thing I bought and it started right up and works fine.

woo, yay etc.

Well done Dave, at least it wasn't something terminal and just coincidence it went when the garage had it.

I see that and raise you the BMW X6

You would have thought the garage you took it to would have atleast put their diagnostic tool on it, just out of courtesy. Miserable bastards.

Make sure you go back and tell them what the problem was. I bet if you'd left the car with them to fix it would have cost the thick end of 1000 euros or something.

Not an Ewok but I drove a brand new Range Rover with 150 miles on the clock the other week. My boss is in his 80's and had knacked himself skiing so I was given driving duties for his brand new car (picked up the day before). Cost over £90k and I dropped him off in Nottingham town centre to go to the meeting we were booked at and set off to park it in the multi-story to catch him up once it was parked up.

Fuck me, why did they not foresee the giganticness of these cars in the future when they built these multi stories in the 1960's? The shit was compacted in my ass so tight it nearly formed a black hole and pulled the galaxy inside out.

However, I managed not to crash it but did have some major issues wondering if it was locked after I parked up, as it has this keyless entry shizzle. I kept pressing the 'Door Locked' button but every time I checked it let open the door as I had the key in my pocket FFS! Is it locking or isn't it! I thought, 'Hey, I could go and leave the key over there, come back and check it' but I would be leaving the key for a car that cost the same as my house on a ledge 50 metres away from me in a multi story in the centre of Nottingham.

I instead decided that it must be locking like I have told it and chanced it really really hoping it was still there when I got back, which it was, thankfully.  Saying that, if anyone trying to steal it was fatter than a size 32 waist they would never have been able to get in the fucker, it was so tight up against the cars next to it in the fucking tiny space (compared to the car - a reasonable space for any of my cars).

But my point was before I started writing this, that the driving experience was shite. It was dull to the senses, not as fast I thought it would be (probably because it is weighed down by more electrics than Metal Mickey), the steering was vague and I kept knocking the tiptronic gears when indicating.  Quite frankly all the extra electronic shizzle was pretty much not needed. I was there in spirit but I felt like the car was almost driving itself. Plus I felt the interior was cheap, I know it was expensive but what I mean is I felt it was a little tacky but they are more Jordan than Penelope Keith these days I suppose.

I would much prefer a much simpler car that was better to drive, that cost approximately 90k less and fitted in parking spaces but each to their own.

Posted

They seem to have forgotten to fit windows to the Evoque, it looks a bit like some other Land Rover that has been stood on.

To be honest when we end up with driverless cars people may not care because they have become so disconnected from the whole driving experience

I really hope the Google driverless cars have an 'I'm feeling lucky' button that takes you to a random destination.

Now you know why next time you see a Range Rover parked in the middle of two spaces. Someone not being a bollocks driver, but being a practical sensible motorist!

Absolutely right Tim - From what I gather, the actuator from Citroen costs about £300 in UK, so call it at least €350 - 400 here, plus an hour or two labour at main dealer rates, plus the initial quote of €160 diagnostic....I probably wouldnt have got much change from 700 sheets if I had asked them to do it.

As it is, I paid €200 for the part inc delivery and about €80 for the Lexia system, which I can either keep for the future or re-sell to recover some of the costs so overall im quids-in. Relatively speaking.

All in all, its been a pissy experience. But then....the accident repair itself is fine so I have no complaints on that side of things and even if I hadnt had the bloody bump in the first place, the actuator would still have shat itself anyway, probably leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere, quite possibly having to fork out God knows how much for a towtruck to recover it.

Just one of those things. I do feel a little guilty actually at some of the accusations I made of the garage when it turns out they had nothing to do with the problem, but then I suppose that tells you something about general attitudes towards garages....something goes wrong and you immediately assume they are trying to pull your pants down.....I wonder why eh?

I wouldn't want to drive someone else's new or flash car. I don't want to drive my lad's new Corsa and have turned down the chance to drive a stunning Merc W124 convertible and the same person's 2006 SL350. I'd be too worried about damaging or breaking them somehow.

Posted

It seems exceptionally miserable of them not to stick it on their diagnostic machine. When they are telling you 'we didn't cause this' then surely they are assuming/guessing, if they don't actually know what the fault is. It would havd cost them nowt to plug it in and they would have been able to credibly say why they were not to blame. I think you are justified in calling them wankers.
