Vent away, but I would caution this.

Do you feel any better after you rant?  My suspicion is, in 99% of cases, people don't.  I guess you could be annoyed by - for example - people inconsiderately parking outside your house.  You moan to your partner, complain on the internet, and very quickly are completely consumed by it and it then becomes everything. Yet, the very next day, the same person will park there quite happily and go about their day.  Who's winning?

The happiest people I know live simply, know what they can and can't influence, make positive changes and are - above all - optimistic.  I've been chastised (quite rabidly) on here before, but I genuinely believe that an abundant mindset makes everything brighter.

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

courage to change the things I can,

and wisdom to know the difference."

At Knock Airport do they still have that €10 development charge or something like that ?

it’s been a couple of years since I flew into Knock

Yes, you pay before you fly out. They've spent quite a lot over the last few years on improving the terminal. The Irish aren't daft, making customers pay for improvements in advance!

I bought my house in the snow, that must make me a complete fool. On reflection the tens of thousands I’ve had to spend getting it anything like ‘right’ probably reflect that.

Get in the motability car at work and *bong*... Tyre pressure warning light on....

Trip to the evil empire then as I only topped the bastard tyres up a few days ago.

Passive aggression required for Zel's situation there.  Little flyers awarding people YPLAC trophies, blocking cars in when you can't get on your own driveway because of them, etc.  It's petty, it's childish, it solves nothing but it's something to do.

You say that, but if you block in a car that has parked illegally, and they can't then leave until you move, there's a good chance they won't park there again.

Maybe it's me but I understood that there was a degree of confusion as to what illegal parking actually was. I vaguely remember that it covered stopping someone from exiting their drive but not entering it.

Anyway, I can't be bothered checking it any more up as a brief Google gave differing views and I'm more in the Bornite camp. It may even vary across the country if local regulations differ.

Over to whoever, if anyone, can be bothered.

My dad always employed a trolley jack for people who parked in the way, either that or his bunch of random keys. People who blocked the doors of his workshop often found their cars stuck in the hedge, but that was a long time ago, different times, as one would say.

I saw some pics ( maybe on here?) where a badly parked car was wrapped tightly in cling film. May be a bit expensive if a daily occurrence .

Pallet wrap is very economical if bought in quantity.

My grump is my kidneys. Apparently they aren't working quite as well one would hope for a woman my age.
More tests being arranged to check. Might also explain the phantom back pain on one side that just won't go away...
Stay on top of this and heed any diet/ lifestyle advice. Kidney problems are horrible (says the stage 3 kidney disease guy...).

This is correct.  It is illegal to prevent access on to the road, essentially preventing the use of the car.  It's not illegal (although is severely twattish) to park across a driveway that is empty.

Maybe a set of these would help matters:

Some holidaymakers park across our empty driveway at times, mainly when the local car boot is on. I've got a set of those dollies but it'd be gross overkill in my opinion, as I said before I'm more in the Bornite camp. It's a minor inconvenience for less than an hour, even assuming I wanted to get back in just after they'd parked. I also know the times when it's likely to happen.

Maybe bringing up kids has made me more laid back and accepting minor inconveniences, although I'm still considered, justifiably, an arrogant bastard by some.

It was said rather in jest.

Fair enough.

I was thrown by the formal wording of your first sentence.

Get Talbot to park his Merc there - even the neighbours won't come near you

It can't be much worse than some around here.

People often buy them new, run them for 15 or more years and then buy another new one. Needless to say at the end of that time, after being by the sea and bombed by birds on a daily basis they're not exactly in a Condition 1 state.

I've got enough cars to park across both drives but, to be honest, can't be arsed. The only time I'm bothered about access is if I've got a plane to catch and then I set them up so that I can't be blocked in.

Supermarket special prices for club cards etc. WTF?
Got to carry round a load of extra cards or pay a couple of quid extra for everything. I’m making a point of boycotting them. So far it’s Tesco, Sainsburys and Co-op.

Iceland as well, and Asda to a lesser degree.

They're pretty much all doing it now. And if they're not yet, they will do

Royally pisses me off, they're not special prices for clubcard holders, the normal prices are just inflated and then the "discount" is a normal special offer pre-scheme.

I'd have expected the regulatory bodies to object to it from the start but clearly they see nothing wrong..

Aggressive data harvesting on shopping behaviour and nothing more than that

It would be a terrible* shame for one's shopping to be abandoned as soon as they realize they are paying £30 extra for their shop because they forgot their loyalty card... Sadly it's the minimum wage employees who have no control over it whatsoever who would suffer from that..  although in fairness, I think you can claim a refund for the difference later on with Tesco within a certain timeframe if you go back with the receipt and clubcard..

An example, lamb legs were £6.50 a kilo with a clubcard just before Easter, or £13 without. They've always been discounted to £6.50 or so around Easter before the clubcard requirement came along!!

It works though, because I've lost track of the number of people who have told me they love their Tesco clubcard because it saves them so much on their shop ☹️

Tesco have had clubcard prices for a good while now, but I was surprised to see Sainsbury's follow suit with Nectar. Yes, it's data harvesting and I object to it but realloy, how much damage is knowing what and when I spend my money on grocery-wise going to do?

Get even! I no longer shop in our local Tescos (as it is expensive compared to the alternatives - even with a card) so keep the clubcard for the when we're out and about and need to make a pitstop. Tescos (usually) have a car park big enough to get the Pony Pantechnionette into and decent loos.

This past fortnight I'll be screwing up their algorithms by shopping in Daventry, Cardigan and Perth. Not used it prior to that for months. Did see yesterday that even the 'Meal Deal' has a clubcard 'offer' on it?

I think they'll just ignore my data.....

It's a rudamentry form of tracking.  They now know when and where you shop, and how much you spend.  They can identify journeys you've made and know more about you than they need to.

I bloody hate it.

I've left my shopping on the counter at Tescos before when I've realised I've picked up the bunch of keys for a car that didn't have my club card on - fuck paying inflated prices for the stuff.

They're getting something valuable from you by using the card (data), so they should at least give you a decent discount. Holding the existing pricing and putting the 'normal' pricing up whilst telling us we're making a saving? Fuck them and the horse they rode in on.

Has anyone noticed that the quality of food at supermarkets has been in a steady decline since Covid hit? I find meat is especially bad, seems like there's more water in it than ever before and really shitty cuts. I should really start visiting the local butcher...

Also noticed that use by dates are 2 or 3 days from purchase now... And, yes, I agree the quality of food is crap now. And most vegetables in my local Tesco are already in a bag, no more being able to choose the best potato or sprout 😡

If you get it delivered with short use by dates, complain about it. I’ve always got a refund (Asda) , eat it quick or freeze it, free food!
