Fumbler Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 I'm not having much luck as of late. It's the Micra's turn this week. Expansion tank riddled with cracks on top. Breathing on it caused this hole. Made a temporarily permanent repair with gaffa tape. It took two attempts: I applied too much pressure and went straight through. Fortunately the tank's designed so that it's never under pressure, so this'll be OK for the time being... until it begins leaking, that is. Remspoor, HarmonicCheeseburger and Dyslexic Viking 3

reb Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 This sort of thing kind of annoys me: I would argue that they're both skills that could take years to properly master. Surely we should just be happy that people are still into cars at all in a world that it's becoming increasingly unfashionable to be actually into cars? AnnoyingPentium 1

HillmanImp Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Mrs Imp had to take the Mazda 6 into the garage yesterday for a new clutch at 40k. We've had it from 20k. Garage even said 'thats early for a clutch' but for her thats good she managed to destroy the clutch on her Mazda 2 in 10k from new and similarly with the Megane. She's finally coming round to the idea of getting a Mills-o-matic. However, last time I let her drive my Jag, I was following her and her left foot was on the brakes the whole journey as the lights were lit up. I don't know what to suggest. She won't ride a pushbike she prefers to drag her clutch for 2 miles to the gym every day and ride a static bike there instead for an hour. Reckon if I can get her to keep her left foot in check a wafter is the way forward. tooSavvy, junkyarddog, AnnoyingPentium and 2 others 1 4
cobblers Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Stressed out, didn't sleep well. Not firing on all cylinders, I drove 8 miles with my handbrake on this morning and didn't notice til I put my brakes on and the pedal went to the floor. FFS BorniteIdentity, grogee and AnnoyingPentium 3

I suggest that you stamp on her left foot/kick her in the shin before letting her drive. I'm sure she would soon get the hang of it. Dyslexic Viking Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 It has suddenly become warmer here which is nice except that the road salting has increased because of it, and this is the result after a trip to the store (the car was quite clean before this). I hate road salt. Saabnut, grogee, hennabm and 3 others 4 2
reb Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 I've only done a few hundred (maybe up to 2k) miles since I got my new Volvo and it's still absolutely caked in salt and grime. I'll wash it at some point I suppose. So far all I've done is wiped off the number plate so I don't get in trouble for it being unreadable. AnnoyingPentium 1
AnnoyingPentium Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Are any of yous able to play this album? Ooooh it embedded. Nice! Anyway, I can't get this to play, or anything released by Big Country between 1995 and 1999 (and obviously the US release above from 2002 which is an expanded 'Driving to Damascus'). Certainly, I could just go back to my shitty iTunes rips from way back, but that's not the point. Damned copyrights or whatever.

Lankytim Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Does anyone remember those NOS Austin A30/A35 door handles I was given a month or so ago? I sold them on eBay and sent them out via Royal Mail who immediately lost them. Those handles had been in storage for 50 years odd and now they're gone, presumably destroyed. I've submitted a claim to RM but it turns out I was only insured up to £20 and not the £40 I sold them for, my own fault as I didn't check, although I did explain the situation to the Postmistress who advised on the best service. I often use Hermes but decided to use RM as I didn't want these items to go missing and RM have a very low loss rate. Seems I was one of the unlucky ones! The customer is pretty upset about it all too. myglaren, Remspoor, Datsuncog and 2 others 5

Spurious Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 British Gas screwed me over big time today. Tried paying for fuel on the way to work. Card bounced. Twice. Ended up paying with the credit card. I'd paid off a bill at the start of the month, 700 odd pounds of a bill. The balance was 0 for 14 days at least. They then deducted the same amount through direct debit today. I was absolutely fuming. BG then say it could take up to five days for a refund. Rang the bank and explained the situation and they recalled the direct debit in a couple of hours. The serious incompetence taking money after the balance was 0. I've actually wrote a letter. And I've printed it off and will send them a physical complaint letter. If the market wasn't such a volatile mess right now I'd move company. myglaren and AnnoyingPentium 2

Tried to contact eBay to sort it out and spent 45 minutes on chat getting passed around from one disinterested script reader to another so no use there either, Breach of GDPR, surely? Pretty ironic given that eBay bend over backwards to block any messages with contact information in them, in case they get cut out of the deal and miss out on their fees!
captain_70s Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Ordered second hand Volvo heater blower motor off eBay. DHL takes possession the following day. While I am at work it is delivered and signed for by somebody who isn't me. I receive this picture: That isn't me. That isn't even my building from what I can tell. Asked them to clarify and apparently it'd been left with a neighbour at flat 1/1. Except it hasn't, because that isn't my building. Also, Christmas jumper, in February... Bren Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Storm Eunice has turned my gates into matchsticks. Seen some wrought iron ones on market place. Will have to get the trailer out as the vectra, despite being an estate, doesn't have much of a boot - the opening is only around 40" wide. When you think how big the likes of volvo 740/940's are you realise car design lost it's way a bit - some estates are no better than useless in terms of boot space. AnnoyingPentium and myglaren 2

Customer - No, we just want to cross-section the high pressure hoses to check them internally then re-fit them back on the machine Me- Cross-section? As in cut them in half ? Customer- Yes! Correct Me- If you cut them in half, you will need new high pressure hoses Customer- why?!!! Me- if you cut the High Pressure Material Hoses in half they will leak because they will be in 2 halves they will be scrap Customer- (Walks away in a huff) cobblers, chaseracer, AnnoyingPentium and 10 others 13
